Recently stumbled upon Paper Source and it's so cute! They have so many fun and thoughtful gifts and of course all types of cards, journals, and other paper type activities (like scrapbooking). The gifts are so fun to explore and find tailored gifts for friends and family. I love seeing the new items they have. That said, the cost of some items can be pretty up there, but I have also found some great affordable gifts and cards here. They also do have a loyalty program that is connected with Barnes and Noble so that's a nice perk if you do decide to frequent here. Service has been super nice and friendly in my experience. While I am reviewing this company, it's the story in the Pru that I actually went to. I find it super ridiculous that every single card comes in plastic. What a waste, simply unnecessary & just plain stupid. While they have all kinds of kitschy things like puzzles, various accessories, bags & other seasonal items, it's also not cheap. So not a fan for things you can get elsewhere cheaper. read more

Let me start by saying I am NOT a "crafty person", but I like looking at paper and imagining things I could create if I were one of those crafty types who sit down and are just bursting with ideas (and they turn out nice). True story: I drew a picture of my dog on a note that I texted to my boyfriend and he thought it was a drawing of him. See? Not crafty. Anyhow, the Beloved Goldendoodle and I were walking down Beacon St and noticed the dog sticker on the door announcing that 4-pawed customers are most welcome, so we went in. I agree with the others that the service isn't overwhelming - three people were working and it wasn't all that busy, but none said hello or even smiled at me - but if you need a card or cute gift, go on in. read more

Planners, cards, games, knick knacks, scissors, tape, decor, they even do gift wrapping and can help order cards for occasions as well as invites. There is something for every budget but can add up quickly if your easily caught up in the aesthetic of things or love to craft like myself ! An adorable store I love browsing through. I come here to buy cards from time to time. Their card selections are funny, cute, and charming, made from good quality paper and nothing near the generic hallmark cards in CVS. Granted because of the nice quality, it is about $3-4 pricier but I think it's worth it. Getting greeting, birthday, and thank you cards are so rare these days. I want it to be something my friends will keep for years to come so I'm more than willing to spend a little more with the hopes that it'll become a nice keepsake for them. I love how you get a cute, colorful paper parchment bag with every purchase. I love Paper Source! I don't find the staff to be super friendly but I like it that way, I don't want someone bugging me about what I am looking for. I'm the type of person that will come to you for assistance so I like their laid back service here. I think that for being a small craft/specialty paper store, they have a pretty good selection of things. Also, they are a great place for a conversational gift since you can grab a card here and a gift ranging from candy, stationary, calendar, and books. read more

Again, why does it take me so long to go to the cool places? Regardless, I am very happy to have finally wandered into this haven of happiness, this purveyor of pulp. I went in to purchase some postcard sized pieces of card stock for which to hand print my woodcut Christmas cards. I figured, in and out in 15 minutes. I think angels sang when I entered the store. I knew I was in trouble. And....I held back and STILL spent a small fortune. However, I'm going back....soon, because wow - they have such cool stuff ! How can you NOT be creative when they have such great items...My mind started racing, with "i can do this" and "with that - i could print these" and "i want to do more of the...." The specialty wrapping papers are really beautiful - the Polar Bears are adorable (i know, i'm a guy, i'm using the word adorable to explain some polar bears. get over it.). They also have great boxes. I ended up buying more than I had originally wanted, of the postcards. And I got these great envelopes that they will fit into. And snowman stickers to keep the envelope closed. I can't wait to go back. The place is enormous. You go in one door, and its like a happy maze....opening into happier and cooler rooms of paper. If you can't smile walking around in there, you need therapy. read more

PAPER SOURCE: RELINQUISH YOUR GRIP ON MY LIFE I don't even need tiny, near microscopic paper roses, so why am I waiting at the counter, clutching a bag of them in my perspiring hand. Its a question I'm not prepared to answer, out of a fear of what it will reveal about my innermost psyche, as I eye the numerous craft books over by the window. I can't enter this store without shelling out a ridiculous amount of money on bizarre craft items I can't afford. This store probably deserves four stars, I mean, they never claimed that they sold wholesale craftery for cheap. Nobody ever promised me a paper rose garden. (yeah. I went there.) but the amount of money alone that i pilfer away there leaves me sullen and cold. Paper Source is a great store, but if you are poor and have little to no self control, its best to stay away, and spend that money on other frivolous items, like groceries or the electric bill. read more

Wooooweeee! Is this place pricey, or what? I bought two small, very plain birthday cards and it came to $11.50. However, I LOVE paper source. They do special bindings and they totally play up to my kinky paper-fetish. I have a love of all things paper: notebooks, sheet paper, note paper, letters, vellum, cotton, recycled... You name it! I'm not a scrapbooker. Nor am I particularly creative or good at decorating. Enter: Paper Source I'm not going to lie: I'm a 24 yr old female who cannot put together an outfit or design a room to save my life. My mommy still helps me with all of this (hence why I needed to move two hours away from my mommy). My mom walks into Paper Source and comes up with fantastic decorating ideas. I have a super cute map of Paris hung up in my kitchen that makes everyone ask "where did you get that?!" to which I can casually reply "ohhh.. it's a piece of $4 wrapping paper from the Paper Source". I have backing in my open shelving that everyone compliments. That would also be a $20 spruce up from Paper Source (thought up by mom) that the ever so helpful employee showed me how to apply. Although I love this store...it is overwhelming. They have plenty of quirky cards, neat paper, crafts....books on paper and books on crafts.........They also have classes that you can take i.e make your own invitations, save the dates etc...... I would think if you were having a do it your self wedding, this place would be ideal........they have a HUGE section dedicated on wedding ideas.......They also have some cute and unique stuffed animals, pens, and stamps. I am utterly convinced that I'm the luckiest person ever because I live 2 doors down from the Paper Source in Brookline. This store is HUGE. Love the variety of paper goods inside the store, LOVE the gift section and the card section. You have no idea how many times these cards and gifts have been a livesaver when I need a cute quirky book + card for a friends birthday. Plus! I can use the paper in the store to wrap gifts. I love the wide selection of specialty paper, it can get a little pricey, but the paper is quality--beautiful made--reminiscent of the refined art of Japanese paper making. Get creative! I often have come to Paper Source to get paper to make ornaments, ribbon to put around napkins at Thanksgiving. (they have TONS of ribbon.) I also have come here when I need fancy-smancy cards to send out while on the job hunt. Try to experiment with the many labels, variety of colors and the stickers to keep the envelopes closed. This is the place you go when presentation matters. Also, the girls who work here are creative, intelligent and helpful. At least, that's the experience I've had. If you're stumped--let them know what your current project is and they generally have some insight on how to make the craft work for you. Also, they take good care wrapping up the paper when it's time to check out--it may take awhile if the line is long, but they do such a good job keeping it perfect so that you can get home and keep your goods wrinkle-tear free and safe from harm. I'm the type of person who cringes at generic invitations. When my sister got married I made all the cards for the bridal shower. When she had a baby, I made the invitations for that shower. Without Paper Source, I would never have had the supplies, help, or inspiration to get it all done. They have great instructions you can take with you, and the step by step details are fantastic. They also offer classes, and I have taken a few of them and have always walked away very happy with the outcome of my project. They recently had a wedding event at the store where they taught you all about making invitations, decorations, etc. I was so inspired by all the new things I learned that I can't wait to get started on my wedding invites. The only downside (besides things getting costly) is the fact that I always get myself in over my head. Ask me in two months how my wedding invites are going and I'm sure I'll give you a sarcastic remark or look of death and wonder why I thought this was a good idea. I love this place - girly goodness seeps from the walls. Came here in a pinch and when the lady saw that I was struggling with my choice, she gave me 25% off a hard to move item that was a bit scratched. That said, this place isn't cheap, but will fill your gift wrap, whimsical card, day planner, scrap booking, picture album needs, and then some. This place is awesome. It's a surprisingly large store with every type of paper, rubber stamp, note card, photo album and scrap booking accessory you can imagine. It's overwhelming really. I went here for the first time recently in hopes to find some really cute bachelorette party invitation for my friend Lindsey who's getting married in August. The maid of honor and I were blown away by all the different options. They didn't really have anything already made up that we could just fill the who, what, where, when and why into, but they had lots of beautiful blank cards that we could easily make into invitations with some pretty rubber stamps. So, that's what we ended up doing. They had everything we needed to make 20 homemade bachelorette party invites, and I think that they turned out even better than we had hoped because we spent a little extra time and made them ourselves. I'm sure the bride will be touched and very impressed. The Paper Source was a great place, with tons of selection to get everything we needed. Stationary stores have always been my downfall (well, next to record stores),so I am so happy that I live in Brookline, not far from Paper Source! They have the cutest things--the best types of cards and stock, as well as that final touch you need. I bought two buttons for two brides-to-be that were so cute, they loved them! If you need to indulge your creative side, this is the place to go. They also have demonstrations on a fairly regular basis, so you can always learn something new. Okay, I love Paper Source but I have to force myself not to go too often or I'll spend a fortune on crap I don't need. If you're working on holiday cards, personal stationery, invitations, etc., this is the place to go. When my bf and I made our personalized photo Christmas cards this year (with the aid of a local printing company) I went to Paper Source to find size A9 envelopes and walked out with... lots of stuff. They had the envelopes (in a Christmas-y bright red), cute tree stickers that I decided I had to buy to seal the envelopes, plus so many adorable gift boxes, ribbons, and wrapping papers that I was overwhelmed. They also sell house-made stationery items, so I grabbed a box of beautiful gold-embossed thank you note cards. There's a section of funky gifts and crafty books, too. If you're in a rush for a birthday, get your gift and fab wrapping all in one place and you're good to go. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE. I am writing this review solely on their card/gifts selection. They have such great funny/gag gifts for people -- mustache pushpins, owl themed stuff, banana wine stoppers, honey badger books. But, the highlight of the Paper Source in my eyes in their cards. They have unique, funny and sassy cards - I was seriously laughing aloud at so many cards. The cards are pricier than a Hallmark etc. ($5ish) but they are so cute and funny - I don't care!! Pricey paper crafts but I feel that this Paper Source has the best selection in Boston (don't quote me on that). I really enjoy looking at all the samples that they have in the store, and if you can get things when they go on sale then I highly suggest doing so. Not only do they have a great assortment of paper, but they also have stamps, gift wraps, several cards, and a variety of other crafty items. There are generally plenty of metered parking spots so you should have a problem finding a space. read more

The creaky hardwood floors and multiple rooms give this store an inviting and calming feel. Everything from kits to the raw materials, stamps, inks, ribbon, fancy paper, scrapbooking bits, etc. It's hard to leave here uninspired. They also have idea boards available for you to browse through if you have no idea what to do with yourself. The service is always friendly too. Not my favorite place but... A huge store full of $$$$ goodies but they seem to want to specialize in invitations and the like (the front room is solely that). They have a great variety. My tip: check the clearance items first b/c I did well with 50-75% off for supplies to makemy own cards. Good odds and ends for scrapbooking too but you would probably need to supplement with goods from AC Moore or Michaels for complete crapbooking supplies. read more

I love going to Paper Source when I need to make greeting cards and gifts for friends. I highly recommend it to anyone who has not been satisfied with generic cards that you get at a local pharmacy. I want to like this store, but the better part of me also does not want to be in debt. It has a lot of lovely, over-priced paper-goods and gifts, but as I try to be a saavy spender, I do know I can get the same things elsewhere. It's nice to pop in and get ideas as to what to get, then run over to A.C. Moore or somewhere to get the items for MUCH cheaper! For the gift items they have, most of them are at other quirky stores/websites that have better prices/deals. Also, although the staff is usually friendly, they aren't the most helpful. I had to wait for over 20 minutes for someone to actually help me - after I asked and waited til they were done with someone else. They also aren't super informed on their products - I saw some stuff on the website that I wanted and they had no clue as to what I was talking about. Plus if you want to take any of their classes, those are also $$$$ as well. It'd be cheaper to buy the stuff on your own & experiment! Lastly, I bought some stuff on sale with plans to experiment, but turned out I didn't need/use some of the things. I went to go return them and apparently I'm not allowed! There was no sign at the register, no one ever told me this, and I'm just supposed to know this before I buy it. The salesperson's rebuttal was "Well it says so on the receipt". Oh - you mean the receipt I got AFTER I already paid for them? Thanks. She then went on to say, "Well when I go shopping you usually can't return sale items." Well, lady, that's not the case with where I shop - and when it is final sale they tell me so before I pay for it! (i.e. Marc Jacobs tells you AND then puts a bit 'ol red stamp on the recipt that says FINAL SALE) All in all, I wouldn't go here unless you have tons of $ to drop, I wouldn't go here expecting amazing customer service, and I would say your best bet is to just check out their website and shop for the same items elsewhere. read more

Dear Diary, today I found this cutesy little paper store while walking along Beacon. They had gnomes in the windows, fabulous gift wrap sold by the sheet, and a plethora of stocking stuffers and gag gifts. The staff were not particularly helpful or not, not particularly kind nor mean. Just sort of there... behind their counter in the center of the store. Browsing about I noticed a variety of cards, stamps and crafts as well-- everything in the store is a bit pricey so be warned (two sheets of gingerbread wrapping paper: $8). If you like having the shining, beautiful, unique present under the tree (or amidst other birthday/wedding/etc gifts), pick your gift wrap up here! read more

This is a review for both this particular store and Paper Source in general. I go to the Coolidge Corner store several times a year. I never can stay long because the music is so irritating, I have to get away from it. In stores where the music is soothing, I feel so mellow I probably spend too much. The music in this Paper Source has the opposite effect. A lot of people have mentioned that the store is over-priced. I agree. I made the mistake of ordering a calendar on line since I don't live near a Paper Source and get their catalogue. Shipping price was very high, packaging was way overdone and not environmentally sound, the product itself must have been marked up 500% from production cost. I ended up paying nearly $20 for an gift item that appears to be worth $5. I don't think the recipient of this gift will be impressed with my generosity. I find Paper Source greeting cards boring and trying too hard to be cute, clever and hip. My local paper store (Rock, Paper, Scissors in Wiscasset Maine) has more appealing and provocative cards, individually chosen by the highly creative owner from all over the world. I guess Paper Source is a good place to go to make invitations, especially wedding invitations, of a certain type. But a lot of time and trouble could be saved by getting old fashioned engraved ones which is the classiest way to go. read more

This store is my ultimate "window shopping" dream. The store is filled with cute, adorable, creative little items that are overpriced and items that virtually have no functionality at all... except for making girls and women alike exclaim how adorable they are! If you can afford it, the cards are definitely the most original and artistic I've ever seen! I like the fact that they're made by independent artists and card distribution companies, the names of these companies are adorable (turn the cards over and check out the cute business names!). I was a devote scrapbooker at the age of 13 so browsing through the stamps, paper, and craft supplies just makes me feel at home. If I was getting married in the Boston area I'd definitely come here to get my custom wedding invitations done. Paper Source did however provide me with a $3.95 paper mistle-toe for my Holiday shin-dig last weekend. This was very helpful because I was in need of mistle-toe and I didn't know the first place to go and get real mistle-toe without paying waaay too much for a tiny little garnish. I love this store! As other reviewers have pointed out it is a little more pricey than what you'll find at your local Hallmark, but the quality and originality make it worth it. I always walk out with an unplanned purchase at this store because there are just too many cool things to pass up. I have a good friend of mine that is a teacher and when I need to get her a gift this is the first place I come, endless crafts for kids to give educators a "me" day. I also would like to add that the staff is fantastic! They always ask how my day is going and remember me when I come in. My repository for all things awesome, crafty, cute, and creative. Though the Porter Square is my regular haunt, I love this location as well. It's slightly bigger and has a massive selection of paper, stamps/ink, and stationary makings. The working tables in the back are huge. It's pricey and doesn't have a sale/clearance selection as big as the Porter location but decent enough. read more

I like Paper Source a lot, though I couldn't ever talk myself into buying anything here - WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. I have asked for many a gift from here though. I seem to think I could use, or must need one of everything in the store when I walk in. I especially love the photo albums they have and blank books too, I have an amazing journal from here. As for the staff - please be nice to them. My little sister works here, she's really nice and most of the patrons treat her like shit - though I doubt the upperclass matrons of B'line are on Yelp.. I'm just sayin' they are mostly a really nice group of kids working there. Also they don't yell at you if you decide to park yourself near the book section and read the books for over an hour - I don't suggest wasting your time like this, I was just surprised my sister didn't kick me out for my loud obnoxious behavior. read more

I used this place constantly when planning my wedding. I even got my husband hooked on it. We did all of our invitations, programs, placecards and thank-you notes here. When you are able to buy in bulk, you save quite a bit of money. And if you buy 10 of one item, you get one free. Not a bad deal when you are trying to save $$. I have noticed that their cards (birthday or other occasion) can be quite expensive. They are, however, cute and different, so it might be worth the extra money. The staff here are fabulous. Very helpful and enthusiastic. They know postage rates for the different sized cards/envelopes and they love hearing about new ideas for color schemes, etc. read more

I had no idea this place existed... I was wandershopping with the boyfriend when we walked by here, and I requested we stop in. From the second we walked in the door, I was hooked. Admittedly, I'm a pen addict. I have 100+ writing implements that I keep at home, but I'm incredibly weak on the paper side. I know the basics of good paper, but I'm not nearly where I should be. Even though I'm at a bit of a handicap, I fell in love with this place immediately. They seem to have a little bit of everything paper-related (wrapping papers, scrapbooking stuff, stationary, calendars, etc...). I was thoroughly impressed. In all earnesty, there was a point when I was shaking and weak in the knees I was so excited. Why only four stars you ask? I found the customer service to be severely lacking. I'm 99.9% certain I would have actually purchased custom stationary while I was there if an associate had actually approached me. I have a very firm personal policy that if the store doesn't actually go through the effort of TRYING to earn my business, I'll get the item elsewhere (which I actually did in this case as I promptly went home and ordered custom stationary online that same day). I will definitely be back because there was so much awesome stuff here. I just wish the employees had paid more attention. read more

This was the first Paper Source I had ever set foot in. This was also a good 4-5 years ago before the others popped up in Porter Square and on Boylston. While I now go to the Boylston location, I'm basing my review on my first few experiences. 1) Crafty things everywhere, oh my! 2) SO MANY different kinds of paper and projects to play around with. 3) The displays/ideas are like the Pottery Barn/C&B displays for crafts. 4) The staff have always been very friendly and helpful. Oh, did I mention that I'm the least crafty person I know? Yeah.. so I tend to need a lot of help once I figure out exactly what I want to do, and I've always felt very comfortable asking for help and I've always left feeling like I got everything I needed. I've shopped at PS many, many times and even when I don't need anything I like to pop in to check out the pretty paper and fun accessories for crafty crafts. read more

Paper Source has 4 locations, this one being the largest in the Boston area I believe (there is one in Wellesley now apparently). I've been to this one and the Cambridge one. I tend to like this one better because its huge and its usually not as busy, so you can wander and look at all the cool paper, stationary, pens, whatever and not bump into anyone else. I love this Paper Source. It is a good size with great selection. Not overwhelming like some the other stores. I honestly go there a lot just to look at everything and for a little inspiration. Some of the paper can be a bit pricey. I personally like to buy the prepackaged paper with prints on them. It is much more cost effective for me personally. They have really cute little gifts and date books that I adore. The staff I am neutral about. Never have had a bad interaction. Seem friendly. I would advise going right to the stamp section in back.
