I did an online pick-up order this morning for 3 identical items for Easter, and while I was not thrilled about having to go to Cambridge my usual store (Newton) was sold-out. It was raining, it is the week of Passover and Easter and the parking lot was a mess. I ran in, grabbed my order and thought "what a cute red bag they put it in" and ran out. My mistake was not checking to see what was actually in the bag..... Not the colors I ordered and no, I did not say that substituting the items was OK (because it wouldn't have been). Complete waste of time since I now need to return them and feel like a weirdo returning Easter stuff AFTER the holiday when I have time (and will not be returning to Cambridge). I always use pick-up and have never had a problem, lesson learned! Thanks for wasting my time (and $3.98 gallon gas)! read more

Large double room space with PLENTY of inventory. We usually stop into Michael's obviously for our craft supplies. For me I look for painting canvases, paint markers, acrylic paints and brush kits. They literally have everything and new sales and deals weekly. Ample parking in the lot...FREE! read more

The guy working barely acknowledged me and I had to ask repeatedly if they had specific products- I asked for lobster clasps for jewelry making- and he kept handing me the wrong product. He seemed to be the only person working and checkout had literally no one nearby. read more

It's down a flight of stairs/escalators (I didn't see an elevator but there must be one somewhere?), so it must be underneath a few of the other stores. I'm not a fan of their new pick up system. Instead of getting a person to help you, you face a wall of bins on your left marked with letters, a bunch of order slips marked with letters, and bins on your right marked with, you guessed it- letters! Not alphabetized. After you quickly figure out that the letter is supposed to correspond with your last name you then start the fun of looking at EVERY bin that has your letter on it and checking the order slip attached to the bag. Nope? Then you go to the board and go through all your last name letters again. Did you find your order slip? If you're lucky it says "press button" on it. If you're not, you read it and puzzle out what you're supposed to do next. In my case, I went through 1 bin with the letter M and realized that my item was bulkier and didn't look like any other M marked bags. So, to the wall...I found my order slip after looking through 3 of them. Great, it says what I got. But nothing else. Since about 10% of the order slips said press button I arbitrarily pressed the button and then stood around realizing I could have just went to get my item and paid for it twice in the time it took to figure out the clues and get help! Once I got help it was fairly quick for him to get me my item. But when I explained that the system was very confusing and that there should be a sign on the board of fun he said they were just overloaded from the holiday and there was a sign. I looked again and realized he meant that the large amount of order slips were covering small notices that said something like "oversized item." What a fun clue that means nothing? I'm hoping this order pick up system gets better because I definitely won't be using it again any time soon. read more

Not only did we wait over 5 months for a simple framing job, calls were unanswered or we were on death hold for 30+ minutes, AND we were convinced to sign up for the Michaels credit card which charged us a late fee then reported us to a credit agency and now our credit score went down! We never even had a chance to pay for the service we had not yet received (?!). DO NOT SIGN UP FOR MICHAELS CREDIT CARD (or any other store credit card, no matter what the economically astute store employees try to tell you). DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! There are other options for all of the stuff they sell and the services they ((don't)) or ((eventually)) provide. I am not normally a one star reviewer, see my other reviews. read more

I usually find craft stores comforting and calming. Not the case with this Michael's. The layout is somewhat confusing and there isn't a lot of signage about where things are. The employees I spoke with were not as helpful as I would have hoped. I went to purchase a grapevine wreath and scented pinecones. While I got my wreath without a problem, I was told they were out of pinecones, even though the website said online that they were in stock at that store. I'm not quite sure why they wouldn't have those during this time of the year, in early-/mid-October. I would recommend ordering online if there isn't a different Michael's or craft store near you. read more

the layout of this Michael's is strange, e.g. the paints are split on different floors, so I spent a lot of time at the first paint area I found thinking that was the entire selection haha..I had to walk around the store to find the other section..it was confusing and awkward Arrows marked the isles directing traffic for covid purposes but nobody really paid any attention and were walking in groups whichever way..annoying but not Michael's fault per se. I did feel like the store was spread out (in that odd layout) yet it felt like there were A LOT of shoppers.. was anyone keeping track? who knows I will say, I could not find one sales associate to help me while looking for a specific item. I'm not sure if they have reduced staff d/t covid, but I probably would have spent a lot more $ if someone was available to help read more

For the framing department specifically: I had great experience with drop off, but pick up was very rough. Half of my order was wrong upon pick up. For the price just please go to a dedicated framing store. Especially if you have a deadline or have really important pieces. Spent maybe 1500 in total and simple things that were listed in the order notes were just not done. The only saving grace is Jeanie, who wasn't the source of the issue, but worked very hard to fix everything (over the course of like 1.5 hours) and gave me good options to remedy the issues. Each time you go to the store it can be a HUGE wait time in framing (and checkout too honestly) even if you have a simple question. I've never left a review, let alone a bad one, but please for the love of god don't waste your time. Again, if you have a tight turnaround time, please please please do not risk it with Micheal's. read more

Not your biggest and best Michael's, but nice location is extremely convenient. Across from Porter Square, and in the same plaza as a Star Market and CVS, it's incredibly easy to get to. However, don't expect anything crazy with selection and variety here. They will of course have all your essentials; for example, my partner and I most often go here to pick up frames or holiday decorations. But when you're at a larger location, such as the one in Everett, your options double or triple. Also, this Michael's tends to get picked over pretty quickly. So if you like to wait for post-holiday deals, try another location. read more

Understaffed and staff don't know what's out of stock and what's in stock. I called about woodblock ink; they didn't know what it was at first but said it was in stock. I came in and they said they didn't have it. I called later and got the original person I talked to, she said to come back in. I stood in the cashier line for ten minutes to talk to her. Staff are always super rude here and there is always a huge line at the register and only one cashier at a time. When you need help and search for someone for forever, and finally find an employee they give attitude or never give you an answer. Although it's a big store and they have a large selection of things, most shelves usually are not stocked. Plus some supplies is super over priced. Don't recommend, especially not this location. Manager Daisy is also the rudest I have ever met, she offered to help me find something and then was to busy texting the whole time. read more

What can I say...I LOVE Michael's and find myself feeling happy whenever I go there. They have every decorating, crafting, art, baking, party supply item you could possibly need. The prices are great. The staff is nice and helpful. I especially love coming in during fall, Halloween and Christmas times as the decorations are always so fun to look at. read more

You know, Michael's is not the most AFFORDABLE craft shop around (Hobby Lobby anyone?!), but it's so convenient. The store is nice and organized, the employees are always really polite and helpful, and I love just wandering the aisles. This was the largest and most exciting Michaels I've ever been in! If you're looking for it, I bet it's here. Options galore. A toy store for the creative!!! 5 stars for that alone. Minor cons, on a weekday afternoon they were short staffed, needed help looking for specific items and only 1 person was available. On the other hand both the gentleman on the floor and the cashier were incredibly friendly and helpful (thus still gave them 5 stars). The other con they can't really control, they're in the basement, had to keep going upstairs to call my daughter or send her pics of the ribbon options they had, there's little to no cell signal to coordinate with other over the phone. read more

Living close by, this location is really convenient. It's a surprisingly huge store with tons of items in stock. If you sign-up for their emails, you'll receive coupons for various items. And they always seem to have sales happening. I was in need of more cards (thank you cards, etc) and they had a sale going on for a package of 60 cards for $5 (originally $19.99). I had also received an email of 40% off one full-price item, so I was able to get an additional set of (different) cards for a lower price. I don't go there often, but I've found that it's really helpful (financially) when I just need one or two items. Most times I've been, the receipt includes another coupon for your next visit, which is nice. read more

Really amazing deals for holiday decorations and crafts! I got holiday tin cans for less than $1, mason jars for $1-$2, a pack of cute patterned cardstock for $2, and the list goes on. It's almost too easy to grab things that you weren't planning on buying because you'd be inspired halfway down the aisle. They have a large store space in Porter Square, so they cover plenty of arts & crafts needs. The employees were super helpful as well, and generally friendly for a busy Saturday night. The only lack of one star is their fabric selection; they only had a handful of already cut, yards of fabric, with a larger selection of patches. I was looking more for an array of fabrics to choose from, but they don't have much at all. I would probably just go to a fabric store in the future. read more

This store is very well-stocked, and the layout is so spacious. Art supply stores can often feel overwhelming, and that's not the case here. I've also had really great experiences with the staff. On a recent visit, a cashier named Rhina was super helpful with a complicated return I had to do, and I was really impressed with how patient and efficient she was, even though I was blocking up the line (so sorry, everyone!). Stopped in a couple of weeks ago on a busy Sat., to pick up giftcard for a friend/Christmas gift. I also picked up a few items in the bins by the registers--did not have time to look around the rest of the store. Note, I thought all the bins were $1--they were not. Most of the items were not expensive and so I went ahead with the purchase but take care some of the bins are $1 some are not and they weren't that well/clearly marked--so double check before they ring you up for no surprises, etc. read more

I really like Michael's assortment of arts and crafts! I have been doing different crafting projects on an amateur level for over 20 years .I used to shop at AC Moore because it was much closer to us and I could find a lot of faux floral options . Well , AC Moore went out of business in the area we used to shop in .Past years I shopped at Micheals in Everett. I was not thrilled with the customer service in the Everett store then we found the camb store in Porter square a few years ago .Never knew it was there . Looking for an unusual item that I needed for work, I ended up here. I was very impressed by the developers of this complex! The way they have made use of the space is just great. Michaels below with Star market above. This had to be my first Michaels adventure in the east coast. I have to say it's a good size, but I have seen much larger. Location is great and selection is good, as you're able to find quite a bit. One caveat: Do *NOT* use the Online Pickup here!! Unless you want to wait forever for a staff member to help you or like having your orders messed up. I have placed three pickup orders over the last two months and only one of them was handled correctly ie I got everything I actually paid for. You're better off just grabbing everything yourself. First there is no dedicated space for you to stand or be noticed when you arrive for your pickup- the "designated" space is just a sign at the frame station. It's confusing as there's no indication on where to stand or otherwise distinguish yourself from someone hanging out at the framing counter. All two times (more on that in a sec) I've gone there I've stood at the counter and not been acknowledged until several minutes went by. Staff don't seem to notice whether they are already at the counter or not, and there's no bell or buzzer or any other way you can signal that you're there. Second, there is no quality control here. My second order got handed to someone else and I only know because I got sent the " thanks for picking up your order" email when I hadn't done it yet. I had to contact the company via chat and get a refund. I picked up my third order yesterday and after waiting several minutes, I had to go to the doorway in the back to get a staff member's attention. When they came out, I was in a hurry so I signed, grabbed my bag and hurried off only to discover later that the paint I'd ordered and was on the slip as being in the bag, wasn't. I'll continue to go to this Michael's because of the location, but I'll pass on using the Online Pickup again. read more

Holy Crap this place is huge ... or at least for a space in Cambridge. I don't like to shop in box store craft places but I hate to admit it ... this place has everything you may need for a quick fix. For Christmas presents this year, I bought a bunch of photographs from an artist and I needed frames that would not break the bank. This place was having a sale on frames and I was able to get what I needed without having to take out a small loan. This is a good location and it has parking (next to Shaws) which is nice for this part of Cambridge. Occasionally, they have coupons in the Sunday Globe, so if you need something generic, make sure you cut it out and use it. I will still go to my small, independent-owned specialty craft stores but good to know this location is here. read more

On second thought, let's not go to Michael's...it is a silly place. What the heck, guys. I've gotten multiple pieces framed here. Recently, one fell off the wall, and the frame broke in one corner. (This was after using fixtures Michael's said could easily hold the weight, but whatever...accidents happen, right?) None of the glass was cracked and the thing still seemed to be in decent shape, so I came back to the store hoping they could repair it. The guy working in the framing department was incredibly surly that I interrupted his work on another project and wouldn't even look at the frame. He brushed me off, saying "we don't do repairs"...ok fine, then can you recommend what *I* can do to repair it? He acted so aggrieved at just having to utter the words "get some wood glue". First of all, I wasn't asking them for any favors - I fully expected them to charge me for the repair. Second of all, you think they might care that I'm a regular customer and at least be remotely civil (if not friendly) about the whole thing. After being rudely ushered away by Michael's, I went to a frame shop down the street. The guy took one look and then screwed a little metal bracket onto the back to hold the cracked corner in place. It literally took him 30 seconds and - poof - problem solved, and probably with a cleaner look than I'd get trying to glue it in place. read more

This Michaels is not the biggest one out there, but it does have the highest quality selection of items, in my opinion. There are always a basketful of items I want to get, even though I don't always know what to do with them, crafts-wise. The weekly 30-50% off coupons make shopping here even better. Framing is expensive, but 60% off sales are always going on (even with those, it is still not cheap, but the results are really professional). Located in the Porter Square shopping plaza, there is parking, though you might have to fight someone for it. Use your phone to bring up your Michaels coupon before you descend the stairs, it's not always easy to get signal down there. The staff is very friendly, too. read more

WHO KNEW THERE WAS AN ARTS N' CRAFTS WONDERLAND UNDER PORTER SQUARE? I DIDN'T! I needed a fake tree for a show I'm in and luckily saw an internet ad for Michael's after I did a few searches. Michael's has a variety of fake plants and also anything you could ever possibly need for any type of holiday decorating or day-to-day crafting. The staff is friendly, the prices are good and as a non-crafty person, it was just fun to browse and see what people with fine motor skills can play with. They don't offer basic framing options. I purchased three 18x24" frames from them, only to later find that I'd need to also purchase a matte or some type of opaque paper to fill up space behind my images (the paper included with the frames were too thin and showing through, distracting from my artwork). Did you know that, with all the resources and other crap that it does sell, that Michaels can't even trim paper for potential customers? And that they don't even sell paper in common size 18x24"? Huge Michaels! Much art such supplies! This particular Michaels is large, located underneath star market, it's usually pretty quiet and the staff always handle a queue quickly and professionally. It's well stocked and laid out very nicely. Be sure to check on their website for coupons since you will end up saving a lot, they usually offer 50% off one item. I like this store. I'm not a serious crafter by any means, but I may turn into one thanks to Michael's. Michael's is a creative hot spot, but not just for want-to-be artists like me. Party givers, scientists doing experiments, designers, inventors, families, men, women, teens and children of all ages can be found here, picking up all of the items they need for their projects. Michael's offers a huge array of items. Even if you snicker at Martha Stewart or cower under the desk when friends describe their cute new Etsy site, you'll find things at Michael's that you absolutely must have. Located next to Shaw's and Tag's Hardware, right near the Porter Square T stop, Michael's may lure you in with their generous coupons and half price sales, but trust me, you will spend more money than you plan for. You will see all kinds of things that will set off your creative juices, especially if you are giving a party, framing something, making gifts for Christmas or a birthday, following through with a school project or scrap booking. I broke a necklace and found the little silver things I needed to repair it. I needed a new frame and got a great one that was half price. I want to make some birthday invitations and found all kinds of inspiration. And I may go to one of their classes which will give me greater wisdom than I have now. As others have mentioned, the layout is confusing and the rooms are not well marked. The two check out areas are located in each of the two different rooms, which can be awkward. The first room you enter after plunging down below ground level is the smaller one and is centered around frames and painting supplies. There is one check out area here. Off to the right is a much larger room, which is crafting central headquarters. It is packed with absolutely everything artsy. You will also find families who are fighting about cake decorating kits, wooden boxes, candy making supplies or pipe cleaners, and all kinds of head scratchers trying to figure out what they want. (When faced with ten types of glue, this can be an issue.) There is another check out area here, but it is typically more crowded. The selection is amazing and frequent coupons allow for indulging in various expensive items that rub elbows with stickers, glue sticks and plastic beads. I am not typically a fan of chain stores, but this one gets the love. read more

Great location, friendly staff, super clean store. I went here this past weekend to find accessories for a "space trip in spring" gathering. Confused as to what my housemates and I would wear, we stopped by Michaels first to check out the offering. After grazing the aisles, and telling many sales associates that we do not need assistance (thanks for asking, though!) we were able to put together some fine costumes (I went as The First Czech in space). I will pause my review, as I know you are all curious as to what I got... 12 pieces of felt (at 30 cents, give or take a few, each) to make a flag, three doilies / sticks (at 20 cents each) taped together to form the flag pole, a white t-shirt (around $3.00), and tape with planets on it (no idea, my housemate bought it). I literally left the store with a handful of stuff for less than $10.00 ... what a bargain! Anyways, what a great experience. read more
