These days, there aren't many model railroad shops around, but North East Trains is still here and still selling trains! The store's got a lot of O scale (Lionel) trains and it's clearly the primary focus of the store, but there's also a couple aisles of HO scale and a couple displays of N scale. Look hard and maybe you can find some S or G scale. The back room also has a selection of scenery materials and model kits. With the overwhelming amount of merchandise, items are overflowing into the aisles. It can be hard to find things if you're looking for anything specific. If you're looking for the latest HO releases from Rapido, Atlas, or Athearn, this isn't the place. ...but if you want to get some inexpensive freight cars and track for your favorite kid (or yourself), you're bound to find something here. What a great store! I was in town visiting a train layout nearby and stopped in here. They have a good selection of new stock (mostly O gauge, but some N, HO and G scale too) and a tremendous variety of used trains in all the popular gauges. In the back they have scratchbuilding supplies, books, and paint. I found some stuff here (O gauge vinyl roadbed) that hasn't been made in years. In talking with the staff, they purchase collections of stuff so they don't always know what they will have. It is like walking into a used train show, and the prices are very fair. wonderful store. i discovered it while passing by, stopped in and was welcomed by one of the owners near the front. lots of trains, lionel etc lots of ho. amazing that they stock so much for modeling, tamiya tanks, cars etc. every paint color in stock. lots of tools. staff are helpful, friendly. definitely above the typical hobby/model shop that have been shuttering over the past few years. im happy these guys are here and making a busy, vibrant, well stocked hub for trains and modeling read more

Great train store. Driven by it for years. I was too busy with my job and older children to spend time model railroading. With the arrival of grandchildren I've gotten back into it. This store has everything for trains and more!! New and used. Buildings, terrain, rails and rolling stock. They also have the Revell models I worked on as a child. The staff are experts. A lot has changed in the last 60 years with trains--digital controls, 3D printed buildings and miniatures--and I have a bit more money in my pocket to spend on the hobby! I'm having a great time with both grandson and granddaughter figuring out what to build next and railroading in a make-believe world that they find absolutely real. read more

This business is the simply the best. My son and I went today looking for a model for him to purchase. Both people working were friendly and help direct my son to age and skill level appropriate models and sprinkled in tons of advice and tips on successful model building. There are not many local hobby shops around and with this kind of stuff I need to go see it in person because sometimes I don't know what I'm looking for. I needed Testor's Dullcote in spray can for a non hobby related project and no one had it in stock, not even amazon. I needed 4 cans today for a customer job and next week would be too late. They had 4 cans in stock no problem. I drove over and had them within a 1/2 hour and finished the job. These guys are great they put the work service back in business where it should be. read more

We stopped by North East Trains with our 6-year-old son this week to ask whether they could help us repair his favorite toy--a large, battery-operated, remote-controlled Lionel train. Their clerk responded to our inquiry not with an explanation of why he couldn't help, but with the following statement: "We don't believe in that kind of train." That was an unnecessarily rude response, and a really unkind way to speak to a kindergartener. How hard would it have been for the clerk to simply say, "I'm sorry, that's not the type of train we are able to help you with"? In sum, if you're looking for a train shop where employees boast a rude, condescending, snobbish attitude, DEFINITELY check out North East Trains. They know how to break a child's heart in eight words or less. read more

Not just trains but a real old-fashioned hobby shop, of which there are few left. I love just going in there to browse. Brings back my childhood in so many ways. 80% trains, but so much more. Hobby kits of cars, military equipment, planes, buildings, etc. Parts and equipment, tools, and paints. The staff know there stuff but they speak plainly and bluntly if they are pushed by some fuzzy-wuzzy parents who expect "Starbucks" service. Always a great selection of used equipment ranging from first class to parts-box condition. I've never been disappointed. As to the other comment about this being George Sellios' place -- no it's not. His fabulous model railroad is in a building half a block away on the opposite side of the street. A great store with a ton of new and used trains. The two gentleman helped me out so much with purchasing a new engine for my sons set. They spent over an hour helping me pick the right one and I'm sure my son will be blown away when he opens it. Thanks again!!! read more

It is really good if you're into models, wish they had more radio control stuff though AMAZING for model hobbyist.
