On 9/6/22 this store provided the worst shopping experience I've had in years. The place looks OK…read morefrom I-35 but when you actually try to shop there you realize this is a bad dream if a store. I went in there strongly motivated to spend money on clothes for my elderly disabled friend, but I was defeated So disappointing, because I actually brought my friend with me. He is poor, but by golly, he deserves to be treated courteously! That did not happen at this Ross store. I feel terribly disappointed that we had to run into a rude and insulting salesgirl. My friend had been *very* excited to know he was about to get some decent clothes. It was kind of a big deal to him! When we left that store empty-handed I was just heartbroken on his behalf. He was looking forward to a special social event the next day and definitely need something to wear. I had a strong feeling we were being racially profiled. My friend is an American Indian (though he could be mistaken for Hispanic) and I'm extremely White. We're both senior citizens. Racial and cultural prejudice enable people to treat others as less-than-human, un-deserving of respect, dignity consideration. BESIDES racial and cultural prejudice, what DOES provoke people to treat others rudely? Neither one of us knows the neighborhood. My friend just moved to Desoto and doesn't drive, and I'm from North Dallas. I googled places to buy men's clothes in Desoto and found Ross. But before taking my friend here, I actually checked out Ross stores in Dallas and Ft Worth. (You see, I needed to be reassured the Ross "brand" has improved since I visited a bad Ross store several years ago) Yes, I actually visited Ross stores to make sure It would be OK to bring my friend to one. Those Ross stores were just fine and the prices were terrific. I thought we'd have a happy, productive shopping experience at the Desoto Ross. Nope. Just TOSS THIS ROSS!!! HERE IN DESOTO -- unlike at other Ross stores -- the parking lot is dark and littered with trash. Entrance looks like an employees-only backdoor. Inventory is not much better than a garage sale, and the prices are ridiculously high. (Completely out of line!). It's beneath Ross standards which, let's face it, aren't that high. Not enough to make you stay home? Try getting help from the rude employees! They act like their housekeeping chores are more important than what a customer asks. Just forget about using the dressing room if the clerk has to "do rack" whatever the heck that means! We found the dressing room blocked by a bunch of racks pushed together Eevery which-way -- as if children had erected a barricade. We were then DISS-served by a girl who rushed over to tell us the dressing room was "closed". She could not communicate in sentences, displayed the social skills of a hostile 8th-grader, and seemed to lack simple problem-solving skills. WHILE WE WERE TALKING TO HER, SHE TURNED HER BACK AND WALKED AWAY. No matter where you come from, no matter who you are, that is an insult. Am I mad at HER? Nope! She had poor home training, or lacked proper education at school, or she receives awful leadership from her supervisor. She probably missed out on every score: home, education and supervision. I'm sad that young people go out into the world without adequate preparation for retail sales jobs. (Really, of course, it is on me and on ALL of us who have not committed enough resources to our education system) Well, she is young, and I hope she'll gradually acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes she needs to do the job. However, I do not think respect for others is easy to acquire. Nor is it easy to overcome racial contempt. This generally requires spiritual insight. Shame on Ross. This store needs leadership and management. And if they don't start doing what the retail industry calls "merchandising" ( look it up, Ross! ) they won't survive in business a heck of a lot longer. If this store isn't worthy of the investment they should close it

I declined mainly because i was disappointed and greatly disgusted that women of color would discriminate me another woman of color. Might not have been the same color but who is? I just wish the managers would put themselves in my position and ask themselves does 30% off make things better? I would have preferred them to tell me a training session will be held due to this unfortunate situation. I will never return and i will encourage my friends and family never to visit this location again. I might return with my camera on to show the customer service and how it differs depending on your race.

I am a black woman who was treated like a criminal for wanting to use the restroom in this store…read more Black people who have shopped at this store, please share your stories here. I am sure there are many based on how I was treated in only five or so minutes of being there. I went in and I immediately asked the ladies at the makeup counter downstairs where I might find their restrooms. They told me a very vague "upstairs", and they wouldn't say more when I asked again. No other instruction. That was obviously not helpful once I got up there, because the store is a giant maze. I asked the manager upstairs where to find the restrooms. She gave me the real directions, and I went there quickly. There was no way that I had time to shoplift anything from their store. Which they would know because they were following me the whole time and I took the most direct route to their restroom, only pausing once to check the price tag on a dress which I did not even remove from the rack. I don't know what kind of sleight of hand artist they thought I was, but there was no way I could have lifted anything. And it was very clearly not my fault that I was made to travel the length of their entire store just to find a restroom. Their restroom is tucked away at the very back corner of their second floor because their entire facility is built to combat shoplifting. I really wonder if that is the case for their stories which are not built in predominately black areas? Perhaps someone could let me know. Even their automatic doors are made to slowly open to the right of where a customer would normally expect to go in and out of an automatic door. This is so disorienting, that I nearly ran in these strange doors twice. I wonder whether these would actually be helpful to wheelchair-bound customers, because what looks deceptively like an accomodatingly wide double door is actually one slowly opening narrow door through which you may or may not be able to fit a wheelchair. I thought wheelchair accomodation was the very purpose of these doors? Guess not. At that point, several members of the staff followed me to the restroom and inside. I only slightly noticed this at first, because I was very focused on the task at hand besides that one tiny pause to glance at the price of a dress. I'm middle-aged and when I have to go, I really have to go. I was just looking for a safe, clean restroom to use so that I could be on my way. Once I went to wash me hands I noted three different employees who were pretending to primp in the mirrors but were, instead, watching me. They were all dressed similarly in blazers and pencil skirts because that seems to be the employee "uniform." There were two white women who went to the restroom at the same time I did. Both of them had big bags on their person, but they were not watched and followed. I tested this surveillance by washing my hand way longer than needed, trying to wait the employees out. One after the other, they were forced to leave because they had been really awkwardly standing around glancing at me in the mirrors and I was starting to glance right back at them. Two ended up leaving awkwardly. The third, who had been hanging back near a stall, followed me out of the restroom. It seems like they were instructed to try not to leave me alone in the restroom. Probably because it is the one place they could not legally have cameras. For them to have mobilized that fast, they were either informed to follow me the second I walked in, or this is their regular routine when a black person dares to use their restroom. One of the ladies who monitored me in the restroom like they were prison guards, was standing with a cell phone at the counter near the entrance to the hallway that led to the restroom when I left. She was once again pretending to primp as she took a selfie that was only showing the hallway entrance behind her. I avoided cell phone lady, by trying to go around her because, while I am totally fine with being recorded by their store cameras (even down the massive maze-like prep walk that is the route to their restrooms), I draw the line at being recorded by some strange woman on a cell phone. That is beyond anything a store should ever be doing. That's just weird. I was followed all the way to the second floor exit, where the manager I had asked directions from was waiting with the first "primping" lady who had to awkwardly give up her bathroom watch on me. They both stood on either side of the aisle, directly watching me as I left. They had smug expressions as if they were some crime-fighting super team that somehow mean girl bullied me (a grown woman, mind you!) into not shoplifting. I had been planning to come back when I had more time to possibly buy that dress that I paused to see, but now, due to their extremely uncomfortable behavior, I have been put off ever shopping there again. I would urge other black people who have shopped at this store to please share their experiences.

They were reduced on the shelf and inflated in the computer system they use. There were three items that I bought that I noticed there was an increase in cost. The first was a bag of potatoes (russet). Advertised on the shelf to be $2.99 but were $3.59. Second, Folgers coffee labeled to cost $11.52 but actually rang up to cost $12.39. Third, Sugar in the raw labeled as a rewards value to be $3.69 but cost was $4.69. Although the difference is less than $3.00 at $2.47 this small amount over the coarse of shopping experiences will add up to a lot of money being stolen out of my pocket and others who live on a tight budget. I used my rewards telephone number to see if that made a difference in the total bill. Sadly it did not. I could have asked the staff to make an adjustment however that would have taken time at an already Self-checkout lane! (We who use self checkout should have an automatic savings of say conservatively 10% off the total bill just because we are doing the work) saving the company money to hire an employee whether with benefits are not. The hourly employee is the target in which is being squeezed out of a real working wage to support a family with. At least with more of incentive for customers to patronize a store there could be room for growth in negotiating a high wage for those who depend on a second income. This particular store had a lot of empty shelves that needed to either be restocked or new inventory had not arrived yet. I did see order takers around the store filling those internet orders. There were a couple of lanes open with checkers available after I got in the self checkout out lane. There were no lights on indicating the lanes were open. I checked myself out at 8:59 pm on a Tuesday. Advice check the advertised sticker price against the computers price input! I remember that a grocery store would give an incorrect priced item free to a customer if it was inaccurate. I guess there is nothing stopping a huge big box store from cheating customers out of their hard earned money!!! Target I see you!!! I will be on the look out for your shenanigans in the future.

The prices are decent, they have lots of clearance items - I picked up an item and saw that someone had helped themselves to most of the product - the lady reduced it by $1 which wasn't even 25% of the cost, and told me to take it to the front counter to have it reduced more. Went to the counter and the lady made it seem like the other lady was the only one who was authorized to do that. She got the store manager and he reduced it by less than 50% but once again, more than 1/2 of it was missing so I passed on it. It worth going into and taking a look. You might find some good finds.
