I just love the staff, they remember you by name, are always happy to see you! Really good. Their refried beans are suitable for people who keep a vegetarian or vegan diet; they're not made with any lard / manteca. For people who like specialty vegan food, they offer Beyond Meat. I got a burrito with just beans, guacamole, and breakfast potatoes. It cost about $9, which I feel is a fair price for the size / quality of their burritos. The burrito was big, but not crazy-huge. It was perfect for one meal. The tortilla, beans, potatoes, and guacamole were all very good. Their salsas are terrific. I tried the spiciest red, the smoky red, and the green. I found all three to be exceptionally delicious. The young woman who took my order on the phone and who was working at the register (I think it was the same person.,. my receipt says Andrea S) was very kind, helpful, and had a great personality. I love Rudy's! Santa Barbara has some really fantastic restaurants downtown... especially Mexican food. I was working there for a month and this place became my go-to restaurant. The food is fresh, delicious, prepared quickly and inexpensive. They have a nice little salsa bar with various levels of hotness. Every time I visited this location I had great, friendly service. The giant crispy tacos are to die for! The burritos & salads are good too... but these tacos are magical! Some of the best I've ever had. Seriously. Decent Mexican food, okay service. Ordered fish fajita bowl and chips. My partner ordered a shrimp burrito which was massive and pretty good. The staff didn't provide us with silverware with our meals and we had to go back to the counter to ask for them. Overall good flavors, but I think there are better options in town, and this was pretty expensive (~$15/meal) and they charged extra for a side of chips. Salsa bar was good! I don't think we'll be going back because there are better options in town for a comparable or lower price. However if you have an Axxess card it may be worth a try. read more

I have been going to Rudy's at other locations for years. I do not know what is different but the food and service seemed better than normal at this location. I ventured and tried the burger (not my usual at a Mexican food place) since I was in the mood for that. It was pretty good as a burger but the patty was a little generic. I will stick to the classic menu next time. I tried all the other dishes we ordered and everything was great. I think Civiche Tostada will be my choice next time. Parking at the location is not great but a lot is nearby and walking or biking is the best way to get around downtown anyway. read more

I think it's such a big deal that Rudy's went out of their way to provide vegan options! I got the Alambre Enchiladas Verdes and my partner got the Beyond burrito. My meal was awesome but I think his burrito needed a flavor pop somewhere. We have used Beyond for burgers and lasagna before, but this was the first time we'd had it in a burrito and it was somehow different. It's like it still tasted like a burger, I assume because that's primarily what Beyond is going for, flavor-wise. Still, it was a sizeable burrito that was good. My enchiladas were awesome, I do wish there had been a substitute involved for cheese or even cream in the sauce. Still I can't complain, the flavor was great and layered, and I love mushrooms. I will say there are definitely much-cheaper vegan burrito options in town, but I'm still open to trying the other vegan menu options next time! read more

Went here with my boyfriend last night right before they were about to close and I'm definitely glad we stopped by. We were debating between Los Arroyos and Rudy's and I'm really happy we chose Rudy's. Everyone working there had a positive attitude and knew everything about the food they were serving. You would think that they'd be frustrated when they see two people walk in their restaurant 10 minutes before they're about to close, especially right after a full day of people eating there during fiesta week, but they were happy to welcome us in and tell us about the food they were serving. This was my first time eating here and we ordered the nachos (they highly recommended it). They brought it to us within minutes of ordering it and we finished it really quickly. For real, these burritos are fat. I come back to Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoons and I look forward to digging my fork and knife into these for dinner. They're thicker than some PR hunnies for sure. Get yourself it wet. You will finish it and already look forward to next week. Al Pastor is the best (with green), followed by Carne Asada (with Red). Directly across the street from the Presidio, sits this colorful little restaurant. It's got a happy, family feel and great food. The menu is limited, but what they do, they do it well! Locals, business people, and tourists were all enjoying their lunch break here. They do a good job with presentation, and the taste is even better! Spent $170 and they wanted to charge me more for some salsa because it was such a big order. WTF?! They give free salsa with small orders but not with big orders. That doesn't even make sense. We got dinner here the other night and it was very good. I especially love the pickled onions and jalapeno. I got a shrimp burrito and my husband got a chimichanga. Hello everyone! I don't usually do this but I'm just so upset!!! Does this look like $127 worth of food to you? No right?!! Thats because the rest of the tacos I ordered are missing!! (14 tacos) like how can you miss that & only give me 1 taco for my order? Why would someone order 1 taco for the price of $60?? Not to mention I ordered 2 carne asada burritos & received them meatless!! Do you not see the order? Do the employees not speak & communicate as a team to carry out the correct orders? Total gem of a café in what I'd easily consider the absolute heart of downtown Santa Barbara! This spot was newly added to my 'hood. I've been a lifelong Rudy's patron and was delighted to know that a location was opening up, walking distance to my home. It's on a cute, historical corner downtown. The restaurant has been tastefully decorated in a simplistic, modern decor scheme - it's clean and bright with light colors and custom chandeliers. There are some tables and booths, but the majority of customers appeared to be picking up their orders to go. When I reviewed the menu, it appears to be a "lite" version with maybe 1/4 of the regular items omitted; however, all of the favorites are available to pick from. My cashier/waitress (blonde girl, didn't get her name) provided excellent customer service! She was friendly and made me feel welcomed as a patron. I ordered the sopes plate along with a beer (because, honestly, why not?), and it came out promptly. The presentation was beautiful and the dish tasted incredible. Did I mention that their pricing is amazing, too? A good $3-$4 under the competition. Score! I'm so thrilled to have this wonderful establishment in my neck of the woods. Stumbled across Rudy's while exploring the area. We got the Chile relleno burrito and a taco/enchilada combo. The burrito was pretty fantastic. The crispy beef taco was one of the best I've had. Cheese enchilada was ok. Fantastic beans and rice. Service was very friendly. They were busy and several of the orders before us got mixed up. But again, great service and food.
