This was meat on a hotdog bun! There was no cheese and I saw one sliver of green pepper on literally, a regular size HOTDOG BUN! I love eating there, their double cheeseburgers are great but I would not recommend the Philly cheesesteak at the price that we paid for it. A hotdog bun! Supposed to have been a hoagie bun. I brought it to the waitresses attention and she acted like, well she was surprised that I looked at it so funny. She said nothing, nothing at all! She should've asked me was I OK with it or did I want something else, anything but silence! Who does the Philly cheesesteak on a hotdog bun and I'm talking the short buns too, the regular hotdog

But be advised that it's cash only! This is one of the most amazing burger places I have ever visited. The staff is attentive and friendly; you can not go wrong with this family-owned business. Excellent burgers made from scratch. It has been in business since 1934, so it must be doing it right. This place is regularly voted the best burger in the Bluegrass State and lives up to the hype. A perfect slice of Americana, walking into this place feels like going back in time. I had the Double Hamburger, and my wife had the Double Cheeseburger. We also had French Fries and Onion Rings. The onion rings are huge, and the breading does not fall off when you take a bite. If you are ever in Hodgenville, you must try this place!

Stepping back into Dovie's after all these years felt like walking straight into a warm, delicious…read morememory. The little white building on 4th Street still wears its vintage RC Cola sign like a badge of honor, and the moment you push open the door, that familiar sizzle of burgers hitting the oil hits you like a hug from your childhood. We slid onto the stools at the old horseshoe counter, the same one I remember from when I was a kid, and watched the magic happen right in front of us. Patties kissed with bread for that impossibly soft center, fried in the shallow oil until the edges turned perfectly crisp and golden. My cheeseburger arrived "unsquoze," glistening and glorious, layered with that signature tangy sauce, crisp pickles, and onions that somehow make everything sing. One bite and I was twelve years old again--only this time I got to share it with my own family. The new owners have kept every bit of what made Dovie's legendary. Same perfect burgers. Same simple, soulful menu. Same feeling that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. My kids devoured theirs with the same wide-eyed joy I used to have, and we left with full hearts and fingers still a little greasy in the best possible way. Dovie's isn't just a burger joint. It's a living piece of Tompkinsville history that still tastes like home. If you've never been, go. If you grew up on these burgers, go back. It's every bit as wonderful as you remember.

Our Bartender was John, he was quiet at first but then opened up and got friendlier. The shelves had a lot of choices from which to choose, so I ordered a Basil Hayden bourbon. Snacked on French fries, which were crispy outside, fluffy soft inside. Delicious!! I THINK the Owner, maybe he was the head Chef.... Not sure. But, he came out with a new dish they were testing. It was flounder on a bed of a crispy potato patty, swimming in a Beurre blanc sauce and topped with some tomato jam. OMG.... it was delicious!! What a great combination. If added as a "Special" or a "regular" menu item, I would definitely order that !! Definitely a good stop, if you are visitng Danville, KY.

The only thing that will catch your attention when driving by is the roadside banner mentioning "Open Fridays from 4pm-8pm" -rather poorly designed sign because for years I thought this place was open ONLY Fridays 4-8pm. Today was Friday and I had free time, so I thought I would stop in. When I approached the door, I could see that they are open daytime hours, as well. But without the banner, I never ever would have noticed this place. Anyhow, I ordered Tom's Spicy Burger and a side of onion rings. Delicious burger but neither spicy nor a "Better Burger" -especially for the price. See other reviews for burger description. Kroger's "Private Selection" frozen burger patties taste better and the package of six patties is about the same price as Tom's Spicy. Still, it wasn't bad but it was definitely more pricey than spicy. The onion rings were delicious. I would strongly recommend them as I do prefer battered rather than breaded. They were perfectly fried, great temperature, and they were the highlight of the meal. The fried pickles appetizer was a total waste of $8. Always had deep-fried battered pickle chips at other places. Here? They take a dill pickle spear and slice it long-ways before battering the thin strips and frying. I truly thought they accidentally brought me fried string beans or something. The ONLY detectable flavor was the batter and the ranch dip with the faintest, barely existent hint of dill. I might drop in another time but after a nearly $30 bill for the three items and a drink just for myself, there are other places with a better value. Jackson's comes to mind and they know how to make fried pickles much better!
