I ordered a cheeseburger and it sure was a flat and thin and measured 1/4 inch thick. It came with pickles, a little onion, a sprinkle of shredded lettuce and some real tomatoes. Had to ask for mustard, forgot to ask for napkin. Wish there was a little more meat in burger. read more

First time eating here. I've tried a shake once years ago and I wasn't really impressed. The employees didn't seem to be very friendly. Waited a few minutes at the inside order area before anyone took our order. Nobody was in front of us but there were people putting orders in from the outside window area. Great small-town spot! I grew up eating here and recently made it back in as an adult. If I still lived in the area, I'd probably be a regular here. There's plenty of parking but it's usually a busy spot filled with locals inside and out. Some of those locals will be your old folks having their coffee while they chat it up with others. Typical for the area. They have just about anything you'd want in a local diner-type place at an affordable price. It might not be the best for veggie eaters or health but it'll hit the spot. Burgers. Chicken. Corn dogs. Hot dogs. Bbq. Pizza. Ice cream. Milkshakes! Even if you're just stopping in for a milkshake, worth it! The sides aren't bad either. Any time fried pickles are on the menu, they're mine! I hadn't been here in nearly 20 years during my recent stop so I wasn't sure how it was going to be. I ordered a burger(w/fries), an order of fried pickles, and fried cauliflower. Everything was good. The fries were a pass in my opinion but I don't eat fries that often. The cauliflower was also good but had way too much breading on them. You're likely going to have that fried full feeling after eating them so maybe not order them if you have later in the day plans. The pickles were perfect... not too much breading at all. The burger was good but I should've gone for a double-decker. All in all, for a quick food spot I was satisfied afterward and it didn't leave me hungry hours later like any other (insert fast food place here). There is seating inside and outside. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is because of the ashtrays on the table. I've been away from rural society for so long that it's still weird to go in somewhere where smoking is allowed. On this day, there were plenty of people inside but no one was smoking(thankfully). It was also odd that the place didn't seem to smell like cigarettes so maybe the place stays smoke-free usually. I've been in a few central/southeastern KY places where the place is filled from floor to ceiling with smoke(puke). If it's warm outside, order at the window and eat outside. read more

Fat Man Reviews took another trip with my buddy Grizz and his boys to the Burger House Restaurant in Lancaster, KY. Burger House serves typical drive-in fare and local favorites. I tried a few items off of the menu. I started with a Chuck Wagon Box, which includes fries and Cole Slaw. The Chuck Wagon came with lettuce, onions and pickles. I added "The Goop"(I'll explain) and some ketchup. The Chuck Wagon was crispy and fried well, but the bun needs to be toasted. The veggies were fresh and crispy. The "Goop" and ketchup added some sweetness and vinegar to cut through the beading on the Chuck Wagon. The fries were out of a bag, under cooked and needed salt. The Cole Slaw was very wet, slightly sweet and crunchy. It was thick and had a little too much mayo. I also tried the Double Bacon Cheeseburger. This came with lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles and "The Goop". The bun was fresh, but needed to be toasted, which is available upon request(found this out too late). The burger had a decent crust, and it was juicy, but they are kinda thin, I recommend a double. It had a good burger to bun ratio. The veggies were fresh, but I wish the tomato was larger. The cheese was melted well on the burgers. The bacon was thin but crispy. The "Goop" is their secret sauce, it added a sweetness to the burger that was welcome to cut through the salty cheese, and did not overwhelm the burger. The "Goop" is a thin white sauce that reminded me of Cole Slaw sauce. I asked what was in it, but I was told that only one person knew the ingredients, it was a secret. Burger House has a pretty large menu that includes chili dogs, corn dogs, Philly cheese steak, crab cakes, several burgers and the Golden Lion. A local dish that is ham and cheese on a toasted roll. The servers were very friendly, they have some outside seating and a small room inside with tables as well. The Fat Man says that Burger House Restaurant is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin. read more

We found this restaurant while out running errands in Lancaster Kentucky. There were a lot of cars which is always a good sign. We decided to stop and ordered two cheeseburgers and onion rings. This is a little hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon restaurant along US 27 just south of Lancaster, KY. It's been there for decades, and it's as good as it ever was. I grew up eating here and remembering it as having really dang good chili dogs, burgers and chuckwagons. Personally I like the chili dogs and fried mushrooms. When I return home every few years, I always make a point of stopping by here, and it's always as good as it ever was. It's not perfect, but it's a nice local alternative to the couple of fast food places in town. This isn't high cuisine, it's small town, roadside diner food. Almost everything is fried, and if you don't want soda or a shake, you won't find much of anything to drink (they didn't even have bottled water when my wife asked for it, the most they could do was a cup of tap water). The dining room is small and a little cramped, with the walls lined with appreciation plaques from the various local school sports teams they have sponsored over the last few decades. read more

This place is truly a gem in the small town of Lancaster. The food is wonderfully priced, and always tasty. Today I decided to try something new, the pimento cheese box. The pimento cheese was delicious, but I wasn't a fan of the shredded lettuce they put on the sandwich. (the menu doesn't specify that it comes with lettuce, or I would have opted out) the coleslaw was delicious, (as usual) and the fries were hot and fresh. I always have to wait a long time with this place . The last time I went i waited 30 minutes just for them to get my order wrong and then the food came out cold. I told the manager if that's what he is and he refused to make my burgers again. He said he would heat them up if I wanted. He was very very rude .
