    Chuck Wagon
    Fat Man Reviews K.

Fat Man Reviews took another trip with my buddy Grizz and his boys to the Burger House Restaurant in Lancaster, KY. Burger House serves typical drive-in fare and local favorites. I tried a few items off of the menu. I started with a Chuck Wagon Box, which includes fries and Cole Slaw. The Chuck Wagon came with lettuce, onions and pickles. I added "The Goop"(I'll explain) and some ketchup. The Chuck Wagon was crispy and fried well, but the bun needs to be toasted. The veggies were fresh and crispy. The "Goop" and ketchup added some sweetness and vinegar to cut through the beading on the Chuck Wagon. The fries were out of a bag, under cooked and needed salt. The Cole Slaw was very wet, slightly sweet and crunchy. It was thick and had a little too much mayo. I also tried the Double Bacon Cheeseburger. This came with lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles and "The Goop". The bun was fresh, but needed to be toasted, which is available upon request(found this out too late). The burger had a decent crust, and it was juicy, but they are kinda thin, I recommend a double. It had a good burger to bun ratio. The veggies were fresh, but I wish the tomato was larger. The cheese was melted well on the burgers. The bacon was thin but crispy. The "Goop" is their secret sauce, it added a sweetness to the burger that was welcome to cut through the salty cheese, and did not overwhelm the burger. The "Goop" is a thin white sauce that reminded me of Cole Slaw sauce. I asked what was in it, but I was told that only one person knew the ingredients, it was a secret. Burger House has a pretty large menu that includes chili dogs, corn dogs, Philly cheese steak, crab cakes, several burgers and the Golden Lion. A local dish that is ham and cheese on a toasted roll. The servers were very friendly, they have some outside seating and a small room inside with tables as well. The Fat Man says that Burger House Restaurant is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.

We found this restaurant while out running errands in Lancaster Kentucky. There were a lot of cars which is always a good sign. We decided to stop and ordered two cheeseburgers and onion rings. The staff was friendly and the ordering was quick and efficient. The order was quick and the prices were great! I would recommend a stop at this restaurant if you are in this area.

The only road sign, so watch for it.

Food is cheap and excellent always! Service is great and love the picnic tables outside. The diner inside is nice when it's cold out!

May not be the friendliest staff you'll encounter, but my blood type is Goop. Pretty solid burger, even better milkshakes!

Finding Mediterranean cuisine anywhere can be difficult, but having such fine Mediterranean food…read moreright in the heart of Lancaster is nearly unbelievable. This place has a name and an exterior that hides what it really is--an understated place with massive Mediterranean flavor and quality. Tonight my wife and I came in around 7 or so on a Saturday night, an hour before they closed and with a show going on at the Lancaster Grand across the street. We were their second to last customer for the night. The place was packed when we got in, with close to 10 parties seated. One was a very large group. Working was the owner at the grill, his wife on apps and plating, and one young man waiting tables and bussing. We overheard that their second waiter had called in that night--naturally your help calls in on your busiest nights. It is likely for this reason that the lady below left her unsavory review about the wait time. She was probably hungry and they probably had somebody call in, and they went to their show hungry so she took it out on this restaurant's page on Yelp. I'd say that blame falls on her lacking perspective more than this restaurant lacking quality. Some folks from the area may not be accustomed to food like this, and it may not hit them right. But folks who know good food will love this place, as we heard multiple other patrons raving about how good their food was. Ours was no exception. I got the three kabob shawarma platter which was excellent (though the "market price" for it ended up being an astounding $46. The idea must be to share it among two or three folks.) My wife really enjoyed her hummus with chopped up chicken shawarma and roasted almonds, just superb with the pita chips and pita bread served alongside. Y'all, the hummus is special here. The food options in Lancaster are limited. You've got your standard bbq spots, the little pasta place around the corner in the Lancaster square which I've reviewed separately, your token Mexican restaurant, and then your fast food chains. This spot is a real hole in the wall that outshines all of them when it comes to flavor, while putting on no airs. Just be prepared to sit back, wait patiently to be served, and maybe inquire as to what the "market price" is if you (like me) weren't intending to come away spending $75 after tip (having ordered waters to drink).

We saw a man and a woman fixing food and three wait staff in the restaurant. The place seemed pretty busy, too, which we took as a good sign. We placed an order for two shawarma plates and a hummus appetizer. Then we sat. We heard a man sitting at the bar say he had been waiting for his food for over half an hour. Uh oh. We heard the lady behind the counter fixing food yelling at the wait staff for the back up of orders. We asked about our appetizer two times when the staff came to check on us. We had been there over half an hour, and once we heard the lady tell them she would fix it but she never did. As we had plans to catch a show at Grand, we finally got up and left after sitting there for about an hour with no food coming out to us. Unfortunately, no matter how good the food might be, with service like this we do not plan to visit again.

It's one reason I don't go out for breakfast ~ I can make a pretty good breakfast at home. No use paying someone to do something I can do. So, going into Jackson's restaurant, a mom and pop restaurant specializing in home cooked style food, I had my doubts. Walking up to what resembled a school cafeteria lunch line only furthered my doubts. And, seeing the sheer number of different options sitting out behind the glass window only furthered my suspicions. Look, I was wrong. The food here is really good. The service is super friendly and helpful. I was so overwhelmed by all the choices I just told the lady behind the glass counter to pick me something. She obliged with a kindness that made me think she knew me somehow. She chose the chicken and dumplings, beef stew, apples, and two different types of corn bread. Now, I thought initially, and she even admitted, that the chicken and dumplings/beef stew mix was a little unorthodox, but that they were both so good I had to try them. Both were fantastic. The apples were awesome. I liked both types of corn bread. When I got up to leave, she called me over to the counter and said that since it was my first time there, I'd get a free dessert. You all, I was too full to even try. The food here is both tasty and filling. I was in Richmond for a conference at Eastern Kentucky University. So it was really convenient to stop by. But I'd say that even if you're remotely close, it's worth a visit. Don't, as I did, judge a book by its cover.
