hey i was in the san Clemente store around 7 ish today (2/7) with my family when i overheard one of the male employees say some things extremely inappropriate to whom im assuming was another employee and in a way of making my entire family uncomfortable, she later left crying and didn't say a word about it just thought it was extremely inappropriate for him to be treating his coworker in such a way to make her visibly upset. Beautiful atmosphere, kind staff, mediocre food. Reasoning for 3 stars was because it was very slow at the time we came in, and our server (although very nice) rarely came out to the front. It was tough to wave him down for anything. No one was at the front desk when we arrived and we waited a while for a worker all the way in the back to notice us. Additionally, there was lipstick on the coffee mug that was given to me. Despite the restaurant its self looking clean, the mug and utensils were not. This spot is quaint and perfect to watch a sunset while having a meal. The food was good, and the server who brought it was hilarious, definitely made my night better. The area is clean and spacious, which I always appreciate. The server that took our order seemed annoyed or upset, to the point I asked if she was okay or if we had done something wrong, which she just said no and asked if we wanted anything else. I definitely get the long hours and tiring work of being a server, I did it for a few years, but I had wanted a break from a lot going on, and it wasn't the best vibe for me. However, I hope her day got better, and overall, it was a nice spot to stop for a quick bite. read more

We come here often, usually Sunday evenings for dinner. The experience is inconsistent alternating between good and disappointing. Tonight was disappointing. Service was slow even though the restaurant was not too busy. We arrived around 6:15pm. Ordered dinner for five adults and one child. We ordered the fried green beans as an appetizer as well as a dinner salad. All the food came out at once. The appetizer salad actually came after the sandwich. One drink, hot tea never arrived. Never received the chicken strips appetizer that was supposed to be a meal for my son. Several dishes were cold including a bowl of vegetable soup. The server did not bring out the food and did not check on us. I raised concerns to the manager about the delivery of the food and the food temperatures. He told me I should talk to the server. Wow! No accountability for a manager. He did replace the cold fries but failed to address all other issues. The sever came by after talking with the manager and apologized. Seems like a nice guy but the problem with this location seems to training as all the issues are related to performance. We like this place and we have realistic expectations but this experience did not meet overall expectations. It's my hope that the management team will review this write up and address these issues so as to provide customers with the best possible experience. read more

I'd like to recognize Mary Anne. My family visited this location on Saturday May 4 for breakfast. Mary Anne was our server and treated us with professionalism, efficiency, and friendliness. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed, and we saw Mary Anne hustling and helping out her team members. She was apologetic for not immediately getting us a refill, but we didn't even wait that long and didn't mind at all - we saw how busy she was and how hard she was working. This is our favorite spot for breakfast on the weekends, and today was no exception. What an amazing staff member Mary Anne is! read more

The food was pretty good. Our server was pleasant. The minus two stars was for the manager and poor leadership for his seating hostesses. When we arrived, there was no one at the front for several minutes. When several groups of families were all waiting for tables, no names were taken, no quotes wait times. The manager just simply verbally told the hostess who was next and left her in confusion. She seemed overwhelmed. Several groups ended up leaving because of the poor greeting and disorganized seating. We ended up staying and did enjoy our meal but it was definitely not a place to go if you want a warm and fuzzy, friendly experience. They are there to churn out the food and get you on your way. Used to come here a lot, I have always loved Rubys especially since it has the old school vibe to it and they haven't changed. Food was good, I don't feel as though the quality of the food has changed which is a good thing, but I wasn't thrilled with a few other things. One being that the service just wasn't up to par, took over 40 minutes to receive two sandwiches and fries. The place wasn't slammed so that was frustrating. We saw our server twice during the whole experience, and the host who sat us was on her phone and had an attitude when taking us back to our table. When we paid the bill we had to ASK FOR OUR CHANGE BACK?! My last thing I wasn't thrilled about and please keep in mind I'm in my 20's but all the girls uniforms barely covered their butts...I don't think that's very appropriate for a family diner. I should have read Train F's review first & kept on walking! We approached the counter to ask how long the wait was since we noticed there were people waiting around to get a table. The gal working there said it would be about 20 minutes. I asked if there was something I could sign. Then she tells me the most asinine detail, "Oh no, we don't do that because it's on a first come first serve basis. Just stand out there in front where you can hear us." Um, say what? Will you remember? So if a table becomes available & the first person to come in after me would get the table? Makes zero sense! Most modern eateries have either the electronic buzzers or you can scan your arrival by phone & your phone will receive a message that a table is ready. There were 2 other families in front of us saying the same thing & like us walked away. I know Ruby's Diner has a vintage theme but don't let your procedures remain vintage. Get with the times! We hadn't been to a Ruby's in quite awhile since trying to eat healthier. This one is in the San Clemente outlets. It's fairly new and has such a cute theme. It looks Beachy and fun. Not too many veggie options but I had a veggie sandwich, no cheese, no mayo and it was really good! With fries...not too healthy but yummy! I wish I had something good to post but I don't. I went with my son for lunch today and the service was subpar to say the least. We ordered a kids Mac N Cheese and without notice the menu was changed. It still read, kids Mac n Cheese but it's now a three cheese pasta dish. Katherine, our server was surprised it was not the usual dish and she took it back to the kitchen. She returned quickly with the news that it's been changed and offered to take it off the bill. We respectfully declined and returned the dish completely. We ordered sweet potato fries and waited 15 minutes for salt n then another 15 minutes for a to go container and bag. Hopefully this review finds its way to the management team and these minor problems are corrected rapidly. Good luck Ruby's! read more

The staff were friendly, but not very attentive...I usually wouldn't say much about staff not being attentive, but it wasn't very busy when we were there. The super burger and chili cheese fries were great! The clam chowder on the other hand, I would not really recommend...it was pretty fishy and bland, even adding extra black pepper and salt couldn't change the flavor. The garlic fries were a bit oily and salty, but the onion rings were delicious. I've been to a lot of Ruby's diners and this one unfortunately, has to be my least favorite. read more

Overall we had a pretty good experience here but service was not up to par as one would expect. Despite it being super busy, the food too was just ok. My mother got the ruby club and it was on a roll that tasted like crap. The bread didn't even really taste like bread, it wasn't soft, it look like they tried to toast it and it was super squish down it just looked disgusting. We had to ask for a side of toasted sourdough and took off the meat which was turkey, and then lettuce, tomato, bacon, avocado and put it on to dry pieces of sourdough bread but luckily my brother had a side of some kind of sauce that we had it on there. I had albacore melt and that was pretty good as the tuna salad was seasoned nicely and it has some Swiss cheese but might've gone better with some cheddar and it was on a nicely toasted piece of sourdough. Little on the small side regarding the tuna and the bread. So my mother and I we split my sandwich and hers and that way we got the best of both. My brother and nephew ordered some kind of cheeseburger with bacon, barbecue sauce, and onion ring it looked pretty good and they seem to enjoy it. My sister-in-law ordered some kind of mushroom burger and added guacamole and she did something with it and it actually looked really delicious. My mom asked for fries with no salt and needless to say they brought everybody fries with no salt and they actually tasted pretty good! The fries are bottomless and that's kind of nice to know but once you get through eating a burger it's kind a hard to have some extra fries. But I ordered some and got a to go box for those I didn't finish. My sister-in-law had the coffee shake which she loved and my nephew had the chocolate turtle shake that was very sweet but he enjoyed it. Minus the turkey club that was not up to par the ladies room restroom were hideous. We went in there a little bit after 2 PM and no one had checked anything off the list for the last hour because it states they're checked every 30 minutes and the tissue is replaced, things are wiped down, the trash is taken out, and all kinds a listed of expectations but needless to say no one had done anything for quite a while. Even after being there over an hour by the time I left a young lady was barely putting toilet tissue in one of the stalls but like I told her when I brought it to her attention again, she still did not wipe down one of the toilet seat that had feces on it. Absolutely disgusting if you're going to post a sign stating that you take pride on these restrooms then someone needs to be following through and up to make sure their staffs follows through. That place makes too much money and has too many people coming in and out to have restrooms that are disgusting. And they have some little ass trash cans in the stalls, people clearly have babies with diapers and they need something bigger than a small ass trashcan to put all that shit in. If i could give a 0 stars for this place, i would. I got there and our waitress just sucked! Took our order at 6:09. It was 6:30 and still no food. The table next to us got their food first and they ordered after us. It was 6:40 and still absolutely nothing. My boyfriend had to go get another waiter to check in on our food bc our waitress never even came to check in on us after she took our order. By the time we were hungry and frustrated both the waiter and our waitress came to us with 2 servings of fries and a milkshake! A little too late for that when i was already packing up ready to go! I declined the 2 servings of fries bc the service was s***! Whoever is the manager there that server deserves a raise because he was extremely attentive and that waitress needs to get fired bc she sucks at her job and clearly is in La la land. read more

The server seemed uninterested and was slow on requests. It took several minutes to get Tabasco. I ended up getting up and asking a hostess for it. This is a simple place that is fun for the whole family. They got a 50's - 60's vibe going on here, that is totally cool. The wait staff are very friendly which just makes you smile when they are helping you. The menu is your standard burger and fries menu. They got large milk shakes and salad options as well in case you are watching your diet! Breakfast is served all day too. I had the two egg breakfast with wheat toast. I wanted to make myself iced coffee, thus asked for a tall cup of ice cubes and a cup of black coffee. Their coffee is a unique blend which tastes pretty good. They didn't charge extra and they were very cool about the whole thing. My son has the chicken tender kids meal with fries. When you order the kids meal, it comes with a cardboard model retro muscle car that you can put together. It comes with stickers so you can customize it too. Pretty cool and entertaining for the kids, while you wait for your meals to arrive. So if you are at the outlet mall with the family and they are hungry for fast food, this is the place! We ordered 2 Cobb salads with blue cheese dressing. What arrived was the most tasteless salad of any type I ever had. The dressing was like milky water with a crumble here and there. We have been going to this location since it opened. The overall experience has steadily gone downhill. Food: basic American food. Nothing special, nothing horrible either. I like getting the Cajun seasoning on my fries. Their breakfasts are pretty good. Service: the waiters always do fairly well. Nothing extraordinary, but I've never had a horrible server. The hostess is usually up front, but a couple times we've waited 5-10 minutes before a host comes to greet (both of these times the restaurant maybe had 4-6 tables sitting, so pretty dead). The management is the most lacking. I've watched two different managers completely fail. Help your servers, help your front end staff, talk to some tables. In the 50+ times I've been to this location, never once has a manager approached our table. Never have they helped the host desk sit tables. They seem to stand around at the food window area. Ambiance: i sure hope that the owner of this location decides to do some remodels soon. The seats are getting in very bad condition, and the place is left filthy. I noticed several tables that had silverware or complete messes underneath while i was there last time. Again, there were maybe 4-6 tables sitting in the entire restaurant. There is plenty of time for busters and managers to rove around and make sure that the place is Atleast presentable! read more
