I am happy to support organic food/sweets and small businesses. But despite the great location and lovely atmosphere, this shop was not a good experience for me.
There were two ladies behind the counter. One emerged as I stood, pondering my flavour choices through the freezer door. She looked more than a bit knackered. As she asked if she could help me, she wedged herself between me and the freezer. I replied that I was making my mind up. She not only prevented me from seeing the products but proceeded to open the door, fogging it up, and not removing or placing anything. She stood there for a while and finally closed the door as I stepped back, preparing to leave without a purchase. The lady behind the counter sat on her stool, staring at the ground and looking uncomfortable. I approached the counter and asked for a cone. She jumped to the task, looking relieved and smiling. The lady who had block my view/access was now flirting with a man who had just walked in. The lady behind the counter shot her a quick scowl. I turned to look and saw the other lady nearly straddling a very shocked fellow's leg as she stood on/next to him. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Something was very wrong with this lady. Was she high, strung out, in need of mental help? I've no idea. I took my ice cream and hurried out to a patio table far from the door.
As far as the product goes: I've had Ruby Violet ice cream before and like it. But find it a bit too sweet. As a chocolate fan, I prefer to get Green and Black's organic ice cream over at Waitrose. It's much richer and darker chocolate. But I like trying innovative flavours and will probably go back... if that lady isn't around.... to see what they've come up with. read more
