I was in the mood for fried chicken one afternoon and I was feeling sort of cheeky so I simply googled "fried chicken near me" without expecting much because I wasn't aware of anything good in my area. Lo and behold, Fried on Gai came up as a result. I had never heard of this. I checked out their website and realized that it's sort of a ghost restaurant being run out of Ruby Thai in South Portland. My friend love the Thai food at Ruby Thai, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with fried chicken from them. And let me tell you- I'm SO glad I tried it. The chicken is absolutely delicious. The coating is so, so crispy and the meat itself is deliciously moist. I opted for an order of drumsticks and an order of wings. The wings are drumsticks and flats and the drumsticks are larger drumsticks. If you want a better idea, go to the pics in this review. I also got the spicy mayo and the Thai sweet and sour sauce. Both were good and what I expected. My friends got an order of the bites, an order of the sauces wings (garlic glaze), and since you can order from this menu as well as the Ruby Thai menu, an order of the duck stir fry. I didn't try any of that but they said the glazed wings were even better than the non-glazed bites that they got. I can't really comment on the service or ambiance because we simply ordered takeout. It was easy to pickup and it was ready on time. My friend was in and out of the place before I could even turn the car around in the parking lot. The parking lot is a little hard to pull out of because of its location and it's a little tight but it's very manageable. Note- The fried chicken restaurant is only open right now on Sundays from 3-8. I would absolutely go here again.

We had the most amazing dinner! Marinated shrimp with a cup of rice topped with a violet blossom. My partner had a leg of duck drenched with modestly spicy coconut milk. There were crispy fried noodles and great thick soft noodles and onions and vegetables we didn't recognize but that were wonderful nonetheless. i mentioned it was my birthday and five minutes later a slice of cake and a lit candle came out with a song. Such incredible service! The hostess recommended sticky rice with mango slices. I have wondered about sticky rice for years. It was mouth wateringly yummy. I would come back for that alone! The television screen on the wall focused on Thai food markets was fascinating to watch while we waited for our food and the soft jazz music in the background was relaxing. Ruby Thai is tucked into the ground floor of a house with ample parking, discreetly off the street. It's one of those places you ride by for years not realizing what a treasure it is.

I had a crappy day today, so I wanted to treat myself to dinner. I got the fried shrimp appetizer and the rad na noodle entree with pork. My shrimp was lightly fried, very crispy, and very good. I would like there to have been a bit more of the sweet sauce with it. It was so good, though, that even though it was really too hot I couldn't wait to dig in. The rad na was very good, the pork soft and tender, the gravy-broth super savory. Again, very hot, probably should have waited, but so so good. Who wants to wait?

The friend chicken is amazing (Korean style) not that easy to find on this area. So crispy from the outside and the crazy hot sauce is so amazing. Service super friendly. Great atmosphere with the homies.

Great food and friendly, attentive staffs. We had a couple appetizers then the curry pineapple fried rice with chicken. Highly recommended.

We had a delightful dinner here. The service was excellent, but more than that was the wonderful variety of sweet and sour flavors that tickled our taste buds. We ordered three appetizers, spring rolls, Ruby thai rolls, and crab rangoon. Each appetizer was full of unique flavors that brought perfection to our pallette and joy to our hearts. My wife said this was the best crab ragoon she ever had. I had the won ton soup with pork and shrimp wontons, and fresh vegetabkes. Even the carrots were thin sliced in a decorative pattern but were perfectly cooked, with a light crunch that was very satisfying. We eat out often at our favorite chinese restaurant yet Ruby's wonton soup was far superior. Our main course was the simple pad thai with shrimp. My wife had the crispy Pad Thai while I rchose the more conservative regular noodle. If you cant get this dish right you are not a thai restaurant. Well..they did it so wonderfully, the shrinp was fresh off the dock anf thry didnt skimp on the amount. Again the shrimp were perfectly cooked, not over cooked and the noodles were prepared by a true expert-a passionate chef with an eye for perfection. We loved the food, the friemdly service but the music may have been a smidge too loud . Other than that small irritation, this was worthy of all 5 stars.

A pretty good Thai place. I've had better Thai food, but not in this hemisphere. Was empty Friday night, except for us, another family and (quite a few) takeout customers. Good crab Rangoon; very good duck and green curries; pretty good stir fry. This being Portland, we were surprised Allagash beers weren't on the menu. Sam Adams was, however, so all was good. Recommended.

Three stars for service which deserves to be noted up front. The folks here are super sweet but they are consistently behind even with just a moderately busy night. Tonight I called for pick up and was asked to hold. For almost five minutes I sat on the line listening to distant kitchen and dining room sounds. That said the food is very good. Some of the best Thai at this price in the area. I like it better than Pom's Thai for example.

We visited Maine for a day and I decided to make it a "who has the best lobster roll" kind of trip. I went to several places that are known for great lobster rolls but the value just wasn't there. Every roll was so small. On the way out of Maine, we saw Ocean House Market on the side of the road and decided to check it out. They don't disappoint. The roll was cold and fresh. The lobster had a natural sweetness to it and the roll was made with fresh, crisp lettuce. The market was quiet and it wasn't too busy so we were able to get served quickly and hop back on the road.

Sat back down and realized we might have not ordered the lobby pop fried how we wanted but instead regular and went back up to change. Was charged an additional $2 when we had waited through the ordering scuffle and already paid $150. Food was brought to table in an okay span of time, and after drinking my soda, asked for a refill with one of the staff members that brought my food. She said I could go to counter and be helped - ironic after being told anyone could help if we needed anything. Know lobster is expensive, but felt it was overpriced for the experience we had. Seems as though they need to figure out if tables should be served or a kiosk system should be in place. Would not come back or recommend to anyone.

After some waffling, I went with my comfort foods: poutine and lobster roll. While we waited for the appetizers, I spied on other tables' fish and chips and fried shrimp - huge portions both. Promising. Poutine was excellent disco fries. Cheese too melty, gravy too light for Quebecois, but who am I to judge? Delicious gravy for sure. This time everything landed on the bland side--even the tartar sauce, which is usually the safety net. My guess? Different cook for the dinner crowd. All that said, it wasn't terrible--just inconsistent. There's definite potential here, and when it's good, it's good. I'd happily give it another shot... preferably at lunchtime.

The other servers were also always on top of keeping our table clear and our water filled. The food was absolute perfection. We started with a salad and grilled octopus. The salad was bright and acidic which paired perfectly with the best octopus dish I've had. It was so tender and delicious, I've never had octopus that was that tender. The grilled flavor came through immediately, but never overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the octopus. For mains I had sole francaise and my husband had bone in monkfish. The sole was melt in your mouth good. It was lightly breaded and cooked in a pan with brown butter. It was so toasty and nutty and coated the green beans and simple, but perfect, red potatoes it was served with. My husband's monkfish was fresh and perfectly toothsome, served with fluffy Roman gnocchi and romesco sauce. My only regret is not having enough room for dessert because I'm sure it's incredible as well! I can't wait to return the next time we're in Portland. Just to note: this is one of the least accessibility-friendly areas of the city. The old cobblestone road that it's located on is foot traffic only. There is a brick footpath on the sides of the cobblestone road that is slightly smoother, but still not ideal.
