First time visiting this new location. There is plenty of parking. Great indoor and outdoor seating options. I love the decor. The service was just as amazing as the Homewood location. We tried the Sweet Heat Chicken & French toast bites ($15.75) that was so good! The beignets were a little dry and nothing special. A new location on 280! I have always been a fan of Ruby Sunshine ever since they opened their first location in Homewood. A short drive down highway 280 from downtown Birmingham, this spot never misses! If you are looking for a vibrant brunch spot this is the space. Drinks are phenomenal for those enjoying a boozy brunch. My favorite here is their blueberry margarita. For a person that isn't the biggest fan of tequila, this drink was perfectly blended (fair warning: can most def sneak up on you if you aren't careful). Other favorites are the Hello sunshine (if you are a fan of lavender) and the classic ruby mimosa. Now as for food if you are a fan of any type of Cajun/Creole style this is your place. I enjoyed the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The seasonal beignets are also great if you enjoy something more savory. The blueberry and the lemon curd were perfectly blended for a sweet/tart flavor. Of their speciality items, I really liked the Sweet Heat Chicken and French Toast Bites. The combination of the french toast and the lightly heated chicken was delicious. Overall a really great expereince. I am really happy to see another location open in Birmingham. This was the best breakfast I've had in a long time. My daughter loved the French toast bites from the kids menu. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.. absolutely dreamy! The bacon was excellent, and the fried green tomato was a great touch. I appreciated getting lemon and honey with my tea, because that doesn't happen often. Our server was sweet and attentive. Tried to order a bag of Yellow Truck coffee which was displayed at the recent (if you know you know) but the hostess didn't know the price and was soon lost in the restaurant trying to find someone who knew the price. Just left without it as it was clear it wasn't going to happen -3. Food was ok but was so cloyingly sweet it defied the title of 'starter' and pounced on the role of dessert with the gusto of a WWE superstar - Dana would be proud. The cranberry was more of a garnish and was thus overpowered by the lemon custard-cream which was sprinkled with white chocolate chips. The binets were flat and greasy - not the puffy, golden brown pastry which is its trademark. The dish was overall disappointing on flavor, composition, and execution. I ate here on a Saturday morning for the second time in about a year with some friends. Both times have been pleasant, and the food has been good. The pancake servings are huge, and come with just a side of bacon. My friends added biscuits and gravy. I got the Southern breakfast both times and both times were good. Their cocktails look creative! They also offer a seasonal mocktail! My main issue with this place and probably why I don't eat here often is the wait times/waitlist/parking. The listing on Yelp says "make a reservation", but that is a lie. They don't take reservations, all they have is a waitlist. It would be about 100x better if they did take reservations simply for crowd control. The parking is absolutely atrocious. They don't have near enough spots, and since people are literally forced to wait there, it just mounts on itself. People have to park across the street and walk over. We joined the waitlist about 45 minutes before arriving, and upon checking in we STILL had to wait another 30 minutes. Don't come here thinking it'll be a quick visit. Overall the food is good but not always worth the hassle to get in. read more

My coworker and I came for lunch. It did take 15-20 for our meal to come out so make sure you don't have any pressing time requirements! Service was prompt and our drink refills were on repeat! I ordered the Southern breakfast with chicken sausage which gives you variety of all the breakfast things- eggs any way you like them, meat, grits, fried green tomatoe, and a biscuit with butter. I made myself a biscuit sandwich and added some good ole hot sauce - it was yummy but I have had better biscuits. My coworker ordered the sliders and really enjoyed the chicken over the pork one. We checked in and got seated right away in a nice big, spacious booth. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive the whole time. For drinks, we started with the Ruby Mimosa, which was good and the Mimosa flight which was kind of sweet. The blue orange was my personal favorite. Onto the food we got a little bit of everything off of the menu. I got the shrimp and grits, which were a little too soupy and lacked flavor. The pancakes for kids were really good. The biscuits and gravy were a favorite of ours. For the Benedict combo, the shrimp was OK but the chicken was really good. Overall a really good experience to try something new. read more

I really enjoyed going to Ruby Sunshine! I got there a little later than I had planned to but everyone greeted me and seated us, showed us where the food and drinks were. They even went in the back and made a fresh plate for us. There was live entertainment and this guy was really good! The atmosphere was great and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves! The man that was playing the guitar and singing pulled the audience right into the song and got one of the ladies from Ruby Sunshine to sing with him and then all of us joined in. We had a lot of fun, we felt welcome and the food was extraordinary! My favorite was the beignet with blueberries and lemon curd. They were fantastic! We had to wait appt 15 minutes before we were wasted, but the speed of service and food delivery from that point was exceptional. And the food was very solid! French toast bites appetizer is a phenom! Biscuits and gravy specialty is a great choice - good biscuits (slightly dry - either overcooked or out of the oven and under a warmer for a little while), excellent white sausage gravy, and perfectly cooked bacon and eggs (ordered scrambled with cheese). Breakfast is my favorite meal and when I found out RS was coming to 280 I was beyond excited. Having eaten at a few of their other locations I had high expectations. In the beginning it was clear they were being run by staff from other locations and the vibe was different and service was great. Slowly it became just different. Food wasn't what it once was, wait staff was just different. I gave them probably three more tries than I should have. I just kept experiencing food issues and I order very basic for breakfast.. scrambled eggs with cheese, pancakes etc should be able to make these at breakfast establishments. I feel like when your this close to other breakfast restaurants that deliver consistent food you have to step your game up. Nice location, nice look inside but food just doesn't deliver to give it 5 stars. read more

When I was in New Orleans I was curious about the Ruby Slipper . Fast forward I was looking up breakfast places around the area and behold Ruby Sunshine appeared. I couldn't believe we had one in AL!! It's pretty much the same (Menu) except in NOLA they have a few more drinks that AL doesn't have. I tried the $20 dollar Mimosa flight (Pride) (a bit pricey) (A little small) not going to lie I usually don't like to support political things but I like to drink so...Whatever.. I did like the watermelon Pomegranate and the Blueberry Lavender. I got the Berry Chantilly pancakes w/bacon (extra charge) The pancakes were huge and honestly just blueberry pancakes. Nothing special ..It wasn't as described .(Layered with chantilly cream) It had a small amount on the top lol (A big disappointment) For a starter of course we tried the Bacon bites they reminded us of Twin Peaks Millionaire's bacon . Pretty good:) I also got a Lavender Paloma. It was also good. Hubbie got the French Truck coffee and the Trifecta. We both liked the Bayou Shrimp Benedict the best ..That's the dish right there!! Would I go here again yes!! Will I go to the New Orleans location yes!!! Would I get the flight again NO! Would I get the pancakes again sorry NO! The Bayou Shrimp Benedict was our jam !! The food never comes as ordered if it comes at all, every visit is a minimum of 90 minutes from the time you get seated. 45-50 minutes to get food after you order and then another 20-30 if you have any corrections or additions. Waited 30 minutes for a side condiment for a sandwich (that it was supposed to come with standard?) only to end up being told they couldn't get it from the kitchen because of the order of checks. One of my favorite spots to grab breakfast in Homewood. Usually no waiting on the weekdays, but on the weekends it is helpful to go online and add your name to the waitlist (at least an hour before your arrival if on Sunday). They have indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor is closed in the cold season. All staff have been pleasant, even on busy days. Parking gets crowded at both locations. If in Homewood on the weekend, be prepared to walk a short way after finding street parking or parking at the public parking lot beside the shops directly across the street. I prefer to sit in a booth as they are more comfortable. Good food! read more

I have loved other locations of this place, and the 280 location was no exception. Ruby Sunshine is one of my favorite brunch places. I always get the same thing, and it's consistently delicious - the Chicken St. Charles, sub hollandaise sauce. It's a biscuit, fried chicken, poached egg, and sauce, and it's delicious! This location has slightly better parking than Homewood (why we picked it) and the food is just as good. Service was great too. Highly recommend! read more

Starting off- I do want to say that my server Dustin C at the bar was wonderful. However, the food was not. I ordered the Spanish omelette, which is supposedly a favorite dish- and it was absolutely disgusting. The texture was strange for an omelette...do not recommend. The breakfast potatoes were meh. Needed more flavor. The sourdough toast in my plate was about the only good thing I had. I had high hopes for this place... but I was wrong. Won't be back.
