We checked out Ruby Scoops Ice Cream & Sweets today. Why didn't I know about this place? It was delicious. I had the sampler. It was way too much food with lunch, but good thing we have a 16 year old garbage disposal named Adrian at home. My rankings of Ruby Scoops by flavor: 1. Chocolate (probably the best in Richmond. Reminiscent of our trip to Italy) 2. Grapefruit with Tarragon. (Sounds weird, but delicious with beautiful color) 3. Dulce de leche (I'm not a huge fan of any caramel to be honest, but this was delicious) 4. Cookie butter (I think it's called. Super skeptical about this one. My wife thought it was the best. Hard to describe. Little crispies of caramel sugar and butter is what it tasted like) 5. Guava (nice taste great mouth feel) 6. Vanilla (for me, vanilla is normally for pie, but this one was really good. 7. Mixed berry with banana - this would have been much higher because I love a mixed berry, but not huge on banana. 8. So excited to have an ice cream shop in the neighborhood! I've been twice already. The dulce de leche is so rich, full of caramel. The vegan Mexican hot chocolate made for a yummy milkshake. My friend got the coffee date ice cream and loved it. I like that they have a small menu of flavors that's constantly changing. I went there for some ice cream. The proprietors were friendly and greeted us upon arrival. The wait was about 10 minutes for service, but the ice cream was worth the wait. I purchased the six pack. Eyes bigger than my stomach. The six pack gave me a taste of my main favorite flavors, but I couldn't eat them all. They were all so good. I will definitely go back, but only order what I can eat. I would recommend this ice cream parlor to anyone who loves ice cream rain or shine. read more

Beautiful shop and brand new! The owners were super nice and helpful- WOC owned shop for the win. The flavors here are unique which is one of the things that drew me in. I ordered a peach flavor- it had chunks of peach! I also got one that had some spices in it that started with a P... I forget the name but it was a great flavor! Last, my friend got the dulce de leche. That one didn't have much too it so I would try something else next time. I agree with a previous review that the texture was a surprise. It's a bit icy and not creamy at all. Just be ready for that when you order. Definitely worth a try for the flavors to see how you like it! This review is super late but that's okay. I visited on grand opening weekend and it was a blast! It brings me so much joy that there's an ice cream shop with so many lactose free options! And it's Black owned! And opened in the middle of a whole pandemic! The owner is Black girl magic, sugar, spice and everything nice! The shop is so cute and welcoming. Just enough options available and so it's not overwhelming. Cool flavors that'll help you step outside of your regular box. I decided on the "pastelito" which consists of guava and cream cheese. I learned about Ruby Scoops from someone who lives in the neighborhood and said it serves "the best scoops in Richmond!" Now, I'm an ice cream lover, like I could eat it everyday, year round - so I was shocked that I didn't know about a place that was this good. Needless to say, my expectations were high. My children and I walked in on a Friday afternoon. It was busy. I quickly discovered it is a woman, black-owned business - awesome. And the owner was serving customers. The decor is nice but is a bit underwhelming. Let's just say that I didn't walk in feeling," oooh cool spot!" It was more of, " hm, ok." And although it was a cool, Fall feeling day outside, it was warm and stuffy inside. I believe ice cream shops should always be a on the cooler side, air condition on. If not I think of melted ice cream and not-so-crunchy cones. I did appreciate the images of brown people on the walls and the R&B playing through the speakers. I was excited for a double scoop in a waffle cone. Darn. They were out of cones. The flavors are interesting. Not a ton of choices - just one case - but they do have sorbets and vegan choices. You can also get a flight - 6 mini scoops to try several. And they have floats and sundaes. I saw cookies as well so I'm sure you can get an ice cream sandwich made. Since there were not a lot of choices, my daughter ordered vanilla, my son got a root beer float, we ordered a scoop of chocolate to go for my hubby and I got two scoops - Strawberry Yum Yum and Who's the Boss. Who's the Boss was supposed to be a tiramisu inspired flavor but I'm not sure that's what I was tasting. Still, it was good. The Strawberry Yum Yum is a mix of berry and chocolate, which I loved. And had a nice mix of textures with all of the yummy ingredients. The vanilla and chocolate were vanilla and chocolate, and my son said the float was good but not as good as the one I make at home. But of course he could have just been sucking up to his Momma :) I give this ice cream shop 3 stars not because the ice cream wasn't good - it was - but because of the overall experience - no cones, the decor, the warm temperature, the number amount of flavors offered. And it didn't give me an "oh we've gotta go back!" vibe. The ice cream was fine but RVA is amazing in that it's a city with a great variety of creamy-good ice cream shops (Celesti Gelati, Charm School, Ray's, Bevs, Sweet Spot and even more). Will I be back? Not sold yet. But maybe so to try other flavors and, fingers crossed, two scoops in a waffle cone. read more

What a cute place and an amazing business to the area! My friend and I stopped by to check it out after reading such an inspiring article. The place is following such great protocols during COVID, and the decor is so cute and appealing inside too. They're minimalistic so they're focusing on just a few flavors which is great and not overwhelming like some places can be. The flavors were different too - not your typical chocolate, vanilla type stuff. My friend was pretty excited because they had a few vegan sorbet options as well. As far as the ice cream, I hate to say this but I just wasn't a fan of the texture. I was so excited for the coffee date ice cream but it was icy and tasted like freezer burn. The other flavors are probably better so I would definitely go again before making a final yay or nay on the place. I liked the concept of the flavor but my friend wasn't a fan of hers either, so maybe we just got an odd batch too. Never knew this place even existed. Stopped by to see what the fuss was all about...LOL. There was a line but as you patiently wait, they allow you to sample 3 different flavors. The staff here are quick, helpful, and friendly. I was able to get the vegan lemon berry sorbet, which taste fantastic. Insanely good ice cream. We drove 20 minutes to get there past several well known ice cream spots in Richmond and this was 100% worth it. We ordered the Yum Yum Strawberry and ate it before I could snap a pic. They have some unique and different flavors I would have loved to have tried: honey lavender and black sesame to name a couple. But also had traditional options to suit my four year olds taste. The area is being gentrified so I'm glad we went during the day. Nothing is better than a cold dessert on a hot summer day. I had the chance to experience Ruby Scoops at Libbie Mill. They deliver homemade ice cream and sorbet flavors with a creative twist. I loved the strawberry basil and mango sorbet. To top it off the staff was happy, engaging, and a delight to encounter. I will definitely be back. I was so excited to try this place & even more excited after seeing Rabia win on Food Network. There's plenty of street parking available right out front & on nearby side streets. The decor is cute--sprinkles painted on the wall & a little bar area with some seating. There's limited seating available, which wasn't a problem when the two of us went in the winter. They don't do samples due to Covid & make sure to wear a mask! They have so many flavors and a ton of dairy free/vegan options that are so good you'll love them even if you're not vegan. On Fridays they do $1 off ice cream flights which is the best way try a ton of flavors. They asked if we wanted to split a flight but we decided to get one each. I'm not one to share ice cream, but we easily could have split one. The flight comes with 6 smaller scoops which was more than enough. I got: 1. coffee date 100/10--one of the best ice creams I've ever had. I wish they sold pints of this! I still think about this flavor lol 2. chocolate 7.5/10--not my favorite but I'm really picky about my chocolate ice cream 3. passionfruit sorbet 10/10--just perfect. tangy & sweet and tastes just like fresh passionfruit 4. atlanta santa 10/10--such a great seasonal flavor! it's like peppermint ice cream got an upgrade. my boyfriend hates mint ice cream and absolutely loved this 5. eggnog 7/10--I'm not a huge eggnog person so I wasn't wild about this flavor but my boyfriend loved it & finished mine 6. coquito 9/10--amazing & a great idea for a seasonal flavor I definitely recommend Ruby Scoops and I'm so excited to see her pints in some local stores! read more

We went here about a month ago. Forgot to write my review. Staff greeted us upon entry. They also had a group there that was making s'mores. Limited selection of ice cream as it is all fresh and homemade right on the premises. I had the plain chocolate, but it was the best chocolate I ever had. My boyfriend had a unique flavor that I can't remember, but he enjoyed it. We will be returning when it's not a thunder and lightening storm. :) Highly recommended. read more
