Bummer. Was looking forward to this place for a friend's birthday and I would straight up recommend NOT going until "supply chain issues" are fixed-- the restaurant should let customers know ahead of time that they're going to be out of 1/3 of the entire menu. I went Monday and they did not have any of their buns, no shaking beef, no vegan general tso's, no coconut (so no mango sticky rice or coconut soup), no salad (seriously?!). It was almost comical how each round was missing one or more items that my friends and I tried to order. They seemed really overwhelmed. They took 5/6 drink orders the first round, 3/6 peoples food the second round, etc. When asked at the end of the night, the manager said there were "supply chain issues" that caused them to be out of everything when I asked if we just came on a bad night. There was no mention of "come back and see us next week, next month, we'll be back up and running." Even if they were out of so many things, I think the table could have handled it better if we were made aware of it when we made our reservation or when we sat down. Ruby Chow's is located off Glen Iris near PCM. The attention to detail inside and out is impressive. One thing is certain, the staff here were amazing. They were accommodating, friendly, and skilled. Our server especially went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. Their menu consists of small and large plates. We ordered several small plates and a drink. I enjoyed the flakiness of the roti in the roti canai, the chicken chunk came with a rich "Asian 1000" sauce that I could drink straight up, and the crispness on the green beans was perfection. The soapberry drink I ordered tasted smooth and would be perfect for a summer day, but isn't for those looking to "turn up." I tried shishito peppers for the first time here and they were not bad, but I probably would not order again. Interestingly, all the desserts are gluten-free for those with dietary restrictions. We sat outside and enjoyed their setup with the igloos and tables in the covered alleyway. It was a great meal and the only reason it's a 4/5 is the price:quantity ratio, but this is an expensive-r area so it makes sense. Would highly recommend! read more

Monday's are a good night for a date night, so we figured we check out this cool, newish-looking spot. Our initial impression was that they were trying to hurry us through, as they had an OpenTable reservation for 9:15 and their kitchen closes at 9:30. They called us to ask if we could come earlier, but if the 9:15 slot is available, then it shouldn't be a problem for us to show up at 9:15. We also selected to be put outdoors--you should see how cute it looks out there--but the hostess asked if we were okay with sitting inside as they were soon to close. My boyfriend said it's okay, but it felt like we were burdening them. If it were an issue, they shouldn't put 9:15 and outdoor seating as options on OpenTable. The rest of the meal, every person we encountered let us know that we were close to their kitchen closing and let us know how much we missed the true experience. As for the good stuff, the food is amazing! The ambiance is perfect and feels like an LA-style restaurant with a cool vibe. We ordered the pork belly/grits, kimchi rice, Italian-Asian fusion noodles, short rib, meatballs, and green beans. Every dish was exceptional, and I would come back just for the rich tastes! If it weren't for the issues arising from OpenTable discrepancies, I would have given this place a 5 star review. From the minute you leave the host stand (Renee was such a doll!!), to the minute you sit down to eat (Danielle I miss you already!), everything was perfect. However, my husband was at the bar and came back feeling disgruntled due to how he was treated by the bartender. I believe her name was Mel. Ruby Chow's is a gem located near Atlanta's popular Ponce City Market, and offers an elevated, sophisticated take on the classic NYC Chinese restaurant tradition. This place has been on my list since before COVID, so we decided to make it one of our first post-vaccine dining outings on a recent Friday evening. While their dreamy interior- a small but romantic space decked out in red, upholstered walls- is beautiful, we were excited to eat in their open air patio, located in a breezeway, whimsically decorated with Chinese lanterns. After being seated, we dug into their menu, humorously printed on paper placemats, just like a classic Chinese dining room. For drinks, I started with their Shinkoku Tonic, a sort of yuzu G&T, followed by their dark but velvety Sailor Thief, which was the stand-out by far. She had the Okinawa Sunrise, which was bright and light, followed by a glass of white wine, which we find an almost obligatory accompaniment to Chinese food. For dinner, Ruby Chow's focuses on a mainly tapas style menu, which we prefer. We ordered a little bit of everything from their vegetarian options. We shared a house salad with ginger-sesame dressing and their pickle assortment, a pleasing palate cleanser which I think is a must. We followed that up with an order of their stir-fried green beans, blistered shishitos, vegetarian General Tso's, and an exquisitely elegant shoyu tamago egg served over a crispy rice cake. Everything was delicious, with the egg and the shishitos being the stand-outs, and the green beans and General Tso's made even better late-night leftovers a couple days later. We are so glad to have made Ruby Chow's one of our first post-COVID dining experiences, and we look forward to coming back for cocktails and snacks soon. read more

We dined at Ruby Chows on a Thursday evening. Without a reservation, we were able to snag a table on their patio. The cocktails were delicious. I had the G. G. Tea (gin, Thai basil, lime). The food is tapas-style small plates, so my husband and I ended up ordering a total of four items: the roti canai, soft shell BLT steamed buns, shaking beef, and basil chicken. The roti was perfectly chewy and the curry dipping sauce was so good, I could have eaten a bowl of it: rich curry gravy with chunks of slow braised chicken and bits of potato. The soft shell crab buns arrived at our table next, and while they were good, they weren't a standout. We really loved the shaking beef, and my only regret was we didn't order a side of rice to go with it and the basil chicken (which was also very good). We'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu-but with reservations so we can enjoy the beautiful inside of the restaurant! This place is utterly disgusting. To try to imitate the Vietnamese cuisine with their mediocre food is embarrassing. Also, taken in that COVID has been rapidly spreading. They don't take precaution with wearing masks or sanitary measures and I seen someone cough all over someone's food without washing their hands. Wth I'm so pissed. I am so disappointed to think this was a good place to come and enjoy. The manager is horrible and rude in accommodating my table and didn't care. Met up with a girlfriend for drinks after work on a Thursday evening. We made reservations but ended up sitting at the bar because it seemed inviting. Drinks: she ordered the GG Tea and I had the Empress. They were both light yet refreshing, so much so that we ordered a couple of rounds. The bartenders Colton and Malcolm were excellent!!! Colton did a great job of giving us the 'first timer' lay of the land and offered up some suggestions without us having to ask. Sweet! Food is tapas style, which was perfect for us since we have commitment issues and always like to sample various items on the menu. We ordered the brussel sprouts, basil chicken, fried oysters, picked veggies, and roti. Everything not only came out lightning quick, but it was SO GOOD. Seriously, everything! This has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta! How did I did not know about this gem until now? First off, the ambience and the customer service, is just warm and inviting. Although chic, it definitely does not feel stuffy. We had an amazing server - Cassidy. Right away, she was attentive and focused on our needs as it relates to the menu offerings. I was the only one who had been here before among my company and she was very gracious and personable - she even provided her jacket to my brother-in-law because he was cold. I made a reservation for Saturday night using open table and did not realize that I did not get a confirmation email, which means I did not have a confirmed reservation for Saturday night. I had a whole day planned for my first date and the end of the great day was to be spent at Ruby Chow's. When we arrived the hostess was really nice and was able to find a table for us very quickly along with the manager who sat us immediately and re-shuffled some things. Guy Wong and his team at Ruby Chow's definitely made sure my Saturday night went perfectly. We ordered miso soup which was awesome, chicken chunk, pork meatballs, wontons, shoyo tomago, my first mocktail, and they were all good! She was fun and friendly and made great recommendations for food and drinks. The Zona Rosa was a good mezcal drink and their Pings OF was a solid drink as well. Shoyu Tomago is a must have! Had birthday dinner for party of 10 on Saturday. Called a week in advance to reserve. Everyone I spoke to was so helpful and accommodating especially Mark. We sat upstairs which was beautiful and semi private. The food items I had were very tasty but there Were some odd moments which put a damper on the experience. I intentionally chose this restaurant for the variety of vegetarian menu options. However All the "plant based" protein items were unavailable which was a bummer. Also 86 on peking-duck steamed buns which I was most excited to try. Also many times cocktail and food items were delivered in long/random times. But that's not a big deal with a big party. Another odd moment was when we ordered 2 bottles of Champagne and the server didn't know how to open them...my girlfriend who is a bartender at a midtown restaurant popped the bottles. Last but not least the server brought the cake out with the plastic cover still on it and gave me a thin steak knife to slice it. We had to ask for forks, napkins, etc. Maybe she was in the weeds or poorly trained, or misinformed but in booking the reservation I specifically indicated cake service which we gladly anticipated to pay for. Typically the cake is presented then taken in the kitchen, sliced, plated, and served. Anyhoo it's a beautiful space, music was amazing and the food items they did have were amazing. Came here for a friends birthday dinner and honestly would not come back here, come on a fairly full stomach because servings are all appetizer sized. Which yes, duh, it's a tapas place but I was starving. First the positives, the atmosphere is so awesome here, majority of the staff were very nice and welcoming. However, my negatives outweigh my positives a bit. I feel like there is major miscommunication between the waitstaff and the kitchen. They kept bringing us random dishes. The dishes (mussels) I had ordered didn't come out until the whole table had already eaten, I ended up ordering bone marrow also and it even came out before the mussels. No one really seemed to care how late my plates came out, and in most restaurants, the staff would take notice, apologize, or even take it off my bill. I guess I was just asking for a little bit more attentive staff. Food was all fine but nothing really blew me away.
