Let me start out by saying I am a regular (2 to 3x a week) Rubios eater at my local San Diego location (which does a great job). This Ramona location is NOT doing a good job. I have eaten here a couple times a year when I camp or hike and they consistently have problems. This last go I ordered a sweet potato burrito (thank you Rubios for having veg options!) but they had a rotten chunk potato in there that left a shocking bitter flavor in my mouth that lingered. Ugh. Previous visits also had issues but I thought it was a fluke. The chunk I spit out was brown and black. Obviously no good (clearly not a nice orange of a normal chunk) and the put it in anyway. read more

Outstanding 'rona takeout from Rubio's recently! I ordered one of my faves, the "Burrito Especial" with grilled chicken. Made with fresh guacamole, citrus rice, black beans (omitted), roasted chipotle salsa, salsa fresca and chipotle sauce. Served with a side of tortilla chips, $8.79. I really appreciate how the burrito bottom doesn't blow out. They are very well constructed. I was able to eat the whole thing without getting any on my shirt. This Ramona location is one of the best, cleanest Rubio's I've visited. It's not inexpensive, but everything tastes so fresh and like they're using quality ingredients. Burritos and their specialty bowls are some of my favorite things to order here. read more

Tonight I walked in they were slammed and the girl at the register and the manager both made it a point to recognize every customer, welcome them in , reassuring us that our turn to order would come and they both did it with a beautiful smile! Used to like this Rubios. Fish tacos especial filled with plentiful beer battered fish, thick salsa picante and soft tortillas. Today's lunch at the Ramona Rubios will be my last. Same order, fish was the size of fish sticks, one taco had a dime size amount of guacamole, tortillas were cold and tough, the limes on the plate looked used and were old and browning, and the salsa picante was watered down. Not sure what happened to this location, but I'll spend my $ elsewhere! UPDATE: Rubios mgt reached out and remedied my poor experience. Poor, disorganized service. I visited last night for two fish tacos. I was not the last customer in, but I was definitely the last one out. When the customer who had been directly behind me in the ordering line walked out with a huge bag of boxed food, I went up to the counter to see if I had been forgotten. Apparently, I had been. The counter person looked around for my order and then checked with the guy in the kitchen, who also looked around for it, while appearing disinterested. He couldn't have moved slower, when he finally decided to make just TWO FISH TACOS. Two stars because the tacos were good, but definitely not worth the 20-minute wait! read more

Love Taco Tuesday! Can't beat the price. Great selection of food. I love the shrimp tacos and the yummy bowls. Fresh, great tasting healthy food. Service is usually good, though today was slow to get the food (12-15 minutes when there were only 3 sets of guests in the restaurant) The restaurant needed some picking up when we arrived, but by the time we left it had been tidied up. Extensive salsa bar was clean and inviting. Drink station was well stocked and clean. I especially love the 3 different fresh brewed ice teas - mango black tea has that wonderful tropical flavor profile. Try it, you'll like it? Update July 2019 Excellent. Food and service were both outstanding. Guacamole is amazing! Smooth but with wonderful pieces of avocado. We have been coming here very often since we moved into town about 3 years ago. My family loves Rubio's and we also eat at many other locations. The food always tastes fresh and is delicious which is why we eat here so often. The only disappointment is that this location does not usually get our orders right. We order for our entire family and usually at least one of the meals is messed up where we are given the wrong item or are missing items. Tonight we had a burrito especial instead of the Baja grilled chicken burrito we ordered, and a bowl with white rice instead of the Mexican rice we ordered. As far as customer service, I would say is 50/50-there are some great employees who are very friendly and helpful, but there are some others who hardly acknowledge your presence. So overall: the food is great but order accuracy and customer service needs some improvements. read more

Tried their Mahi Mahi salad on one of the romaine pollution scare days. They had subbed out the romaine for another lettuce but the salad was still very delicious. The salad dressing didn't feel too heavy or sweet. There were two medium sized pieces of Mahi Mahi that were grilled perfectly. I was not disappointed in the food. The food came out in decent timing and I like that they had outdoor seating for people that have their dogs. read more

Not too sure what the consensus is on Rubio's these days, but I've always been a fan. I'd assume people look at Rubio's the same way they look at Chipotle. (I think Chipotle is very mediocre at best) Obviously the fish taco's are the main dish here & that's what I usually come for. The fish tacos are always on point. They never let down. I do enjoy myself a nice mahi mahi burrito (when the mahi is available) Love the salsa bar, the peppered refried beans, and the fact that they have beer! the fish tacos tasted as if they were frozen fish and thawed out... My flour tortilla was stale and even the limes were completely dried out. I use to love these restaurants, but the quality has gone way downhill as the prices have gone way up... $4.99 for a single fish taco. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is very friendly, but the fish tacos are a big disappointment. They import their fish from Mexico which doesn't have ethical fishing laws, so I bet their fishing methods are very destructive to the ocean environment. All done so they can make a bigger profit with no concern for the fish population or environment. It's not sustainable as they mention on their site. I loved their first store down in Mission Bay, but once they franchised, the food quality went out the window read more

Rubio's in Ramona - I purchased an original fish taco, chips and pinto beans to go at 2:30 this afternoon. At home, the fish taco was completely cold and I know It was not warmed up or cooked before they gave it to me. Additionally, the chips were at least two days old and they so graciously added one french fry in with them that was as hard as a rock. Check your order before you go to be sure it was cooked, and that your chips are not stale and two days old.. read more

I used to love going to rubios, I go at least once a week, but after today I don't want to go for a while. I ordered a classic grilled shrimp burrito and got only two pieces of shrimp in the whole thing. Not only that but it's was super dry and had no sauce. My sister ordered a shrimp taco plate and it was super cold once we got home, and the drive is only about 5 minutes. The chips are also super hard and stale, I used to go to rubios just because I thought the chips were delicious. The new manager is also unhelpful and rude at times. The cleanliness of the establishment is awful. Tables need to be wiped, the salsa bar is messy and the bathrooms smell awful. Lastly, the lack of items in stock. I feel like every-time I go I have to substitute or change my order because they're out of what I wanted. read more

Saw that they had a delicious looking Puerto Nuevo "langostino lobster" burrito. Photo on the menu looked amazing and I quickly ordered it. $14 bucks after tax but hell it looked good! I also ordered a classic fish taco for good measure. Got it to go. When I got back, ate the fish taco and saved the best for last! When I started eating the burrito, I noticed it felt very squishy like a bean burrito. After five bites, and 1/3 the way through I was wondering if they got my order wrong and gave me a bean and rice burrito because NO Langos yet! I got half way through and one smashed looking piece of langoustine meat. It's not actually lobster so I don't refer to it as such. So basically a $14 bean and rice burrito with Lango flavoring. I'm usually one to take it on the chin and just accept the crap food to never go back again but I really wanted what was "advertised!" I had the craving! BTW, chips were stale too. So I took it back. Explained what I got and said I ordered "that" while pointing at the menu. Guy at the counter seemed careless said oh sorry and simply turned around and told the cook "one puerto Nuevo burrito." Then said just a few minutes. No, "hey put some meat in it this time!" Or re-educating the cook with how it's supposed to be. OR, hey I'm sorry, we will do it right! Loading it up!" NOPE! Got back with new one and around 2-3 little crawdad tails in the first 1/2 then the rest, only about 7-8 tiny ones all jammed in the last end. My advice is get the Langostino tacos if you want meat. The puerto Nuevo burrito at this particular Rubios is a slap in the face. read more

Hubs and I came in here and got the California Bowls. They are Vegan, filling, tasty and a good deal especially if you use your Yelp check-in $2 off coupon. I like mine with the brown rice and quinoa, grilled veggies, verde sauce, and then leave out the chipotle sauce (not Vegan). I add a LOT of onions and cilantro and lime juice. Yummy! Stopped into Rubio's on a busy Sunday afternoon and was so so pleased with the amazing customer service we received! I have food allergies and words cannot describe how comforting it was to have the person who took our order (unfortunately, I can't recall his name - but a gentleman with dark hair and glasses, I believe he was the manager) pay such attention to detail and he even made it a point to show us our food before we took our order home.
