The Coastal Trio*
Sandra H.

Came here with coworkers after a mud run. Never been to Rubio but it was really good and after getting dirty and muddy and that exercise boy was the food hitting the spot. I got the coastal three tacos because I couldn't make up my mind with chips and beans and a churro. All of it was so good cost almost 25 bucks with my drink as well. To be honest, I probably could've done without the chips and beans. After doing my mud run I just felt super hungry . And all three tacos were delicious. One was salmon I think. One was fried fish and one was shrimp. The cashier was friendly and kind even though we all probably looked like a mess we did change clothes prior to going in but still had mud on our hair.

The chicken tacos are not that great anymore. The tortillas they use are cold and unstable and they load some junky white sauce on all the tacos. Rice was Luke warm.

Mmmmk Rubio's! I had a hankering for some quick coastal Mexican food and they didn't disappoint! As vegetarians sometimes options can be limited, but there were lots to choose from and customize here. The inside of this location was clean, customer service was pleasant, food was fresh and made to order. We had "veggie burrito especials" that were scrumptious! Everything comes with a side of crispy tortilla chips too. I'd recommend this! Gracias por la comida deliciosa!

The food is delicious especially the shrimp tacos. Service is great and the restaurant is very clean. I visited the one off Germaine and Gilbert.

I like Rubio's Costal Grill. They make the food fast and I can get home too eat it quick. I had the yummy lobster taco that tasted delicious and buttery. It was one of those meals where I needed lots of napkins. The lobster meat itself has a very light flavor. Sometimes with good lobster meat I can't really taste a distinct flavor at all. My meal included a choice of two sides. I ended up getting a couple small containers, one with rice and another with beans. To me, the beans had a smoky flavor. I wanted to confirm the taste. At other restaurants their beans didn't taste smoke too me. Their rice was alright. I didn't think they tasted smoky. I did see that they had black beans, chips, and citrus rice as alternate options. I am interested in trying the citrus rice and maybe the black beans the next time I go. For an additional charge of a dollar you could choose the cauliflower rice. There was also Mexican street corn for fifty cents extra. I am not a big fan of corn tortillas so will need to remember to change out my order to have all flour tortillas instead.

Loaded Nachos with impossible meat

Love that you can order through Ubereats and still select what you want from the salsa bar as that's what makes the meal! Love the ability to order impossible meat and hope it stays on the menu. I've never dined in at this location, but they have great food quality through Ubereats as I've ordered a couple times to my office.

Why did I waste my time ordering on the website only to be ignored once I arrived. The service is absolutely terrible

UPDATE: I went back a second time and everything was phenomenal, in fact I mis-ordered a few items and the team lead made it right. I have nothing bad to say about this location. Great food, great customer service, clean restaurant. Originally 4 stars bumped to 5 stars. My original experience with Rubios was over 30 years ago while serving in the Navy. Upon stepping into this location I was impressed by how Rubios had expanded its menu since then, but I was a bit concerned by how long it took for an employee to acknowledge I was there. It took so long that I looked around to see if I needed to place my order via kiosk. Finally, an older gentleman walked over and took my order. I remembered how good the fish tacos were, so they were the obvious choice, I got 3 of them and a drink. I waited about 5 minutes, the tacos came out fresh and hot...now for the taste test. The first bite took me back to the days of a 20 something year old sailor, these tacos were amazing!!! I devoured them so quickly that I thought about ordering a few more. I gave 4 stars due to the time I waited for someone to recognize me, but I'll definitely be back. The restaurant was clean and the tacos were very very good. Highly recommend.

Rubio's x Blais Street Taco Plate
Karen W.

So I don't normally eat at Rubio's but I saw Richard Blais's mug plastered all over the doors at this Rubio's while walking to Sumo Snow in the same plaza. I thought, OK, let's see what Richard Blais sold his culinary soul to The Corporate Devil to make! After seeing him on the latest season of Top Chef as a judge, perhaps he needed that extra money to satisfy his hair gel addiction. The Blais tres tacos special consists of a Buffalo chicken, AKA Blaised and Glazed, Hula Hula Carnitas and Ancho Po'Boy Shrimp. The chicken and shrimp come on a double layer of grilled flour tortilla while the carnitas comes with corn. Several thoughts went through my head as I waited for this meal both about the tacos and Richard Blais himself. Would I be Blaised and Confused by this meal? Would the food go down in a Blais of glory? Or is Chef a trail-Blaiser by collaborating with Rubio's? The vibe here wasn't the cheeriest nor did they provide the fastest service. Eventually my tacos were ready and they were securely packaged in a paper based container. I think due to Covid concerns they've retired the salsa bar for now but you do have the option of getting some small sauce containers of mild, green/tomatillo, chipotle and/or picante. It was odd that I couldn't find a detailed description of the taco ingredients on the actual Rubio's website. I had to find them on other sites so according to Chewboom.com (Gotta love that name btw): "Hula Hula Carnitas: Inspired by Chef Blais' time in Hawaii, the Hula Hula Carnitas taco features pork marinated in a rich blend of gochujang, achiote, and garlic, wrapped in a banana leaf and slow-cooked, creating tender, juicy meat with an authentic Hawaiian Kalua flavor. It is served on a stone ground corn tortilla with mango salsa and garnished with black sesame seeds, cotija cheese and a slice of lime. Blaised & Glazed Crispy Chicken: Offering a tangy, zesty taco twist on Buffalo chicken, the Blaised & Glazed taco starts with Rubio's crispy chicken tossed in Frank's RedHot sauce and served on a warm flour tortilla with shredded cabbage, homemade ranch sauce, and house pickled celery and jalapeño, garnished with cotija cheese and celery seed. Ancho Po-Boy Shrimp: Named after New Orleans' iconic sandwich, the Ancho Po-Boy Shrimp taco features flash fried ancho-lime shrimp with Cajun aioli, and is served on a warm flour tortilla with shredded cabbage, salsa fresca and a slice of lime." The tacos weren't Blaisin' hot, maybe a medium spice level. Out of the three I probably enjoyed the flavors of the shrimp taco the most. The shrimp were a tad overcooked though and I didn't taste much of the ancho chile. The carnitas was too salty for me and my toddler who is a mango fiend didn't even like the mango salsa on top. She picked it all off, put it on my plate, pointed to me and said "Eat!" That little taskmaster! The chicken tacos tasted exactly like Buffalo chicken as described, but for me, is there any benefit in eating Buffalo chicken as a taco vs. eating it just by itself? For me there really wasn't any at least. As for the taco tortillas, the flour ones were nicely toasted but the corn tortillas tasted a bit tough and old. The meal came with an ample bounty of light crispy chips and warm bean dip which was a nice accompaniment to the tacos. Be sure to redeem the Yelp check in offer for $2 off this meal (As of 8-2021) if you go here! I totally forgot to check Yelp and I had already paid when I saw that check in offer. For me, the verdict is that the tacos are just OK. Maybe I'd try them again if I were Blaised but for now there are other culinary creations to try out!

I've had Italian Beef before. I've loved Italian Beef before. But nothing--NOTHING--prepared me for the transcendent, jaw-dropping, flavor-explosion experience that is ordering the Big Beef DIPPED at this Chandler location. If you haven't done it yet, you haven't lived. And if you've had it elsewhere but haven't had it here with their cheese sauce... well, buckle up, because you're about to discover your new favorite thing on the entire planet. From the second you walk into Portillo's on Ray Road, you can smell the magic--crisp sport peppers, rich au jus, and that unmistakable aroma of slow-roasted beef that makes your stomach growl instantly. But the real moment of truth comes when you look that server in the eye and say: "I'll take the Big Beef, DIPPED, LOADED with cheese sauce. And I mean loaded." Watch their face light up--they know. They understand. This is not just a sandwich; it's a ritual, and this location performs it with reverence. Then it arrives. Oh. My. Goodness. The bread is drenched--and I mean perfectly, gloriously drenched--in that deep, savory au jus, so every inch is saturated with rich, beefy flavor. It's not soggy; it's luscious. It's a sponge for joy. And then... the cheese sauce. Sweet, spicy, velvety, liquid gold--it's like someone took pepper jack, dreams, and a touch of heaven and whipped it into a creamy, molten ribbon that cascades over every millimeter of that dipped bread and tender, shreddy beef. The first bite is not just a meal--it's a religious experience. The crunch of the giardiniera, the pop of a sport pepper, the warm, juicy beef, the cheese sauce pulling in golden strands... it's an OMG moment so intense you might actually forget your own name for a second. You'll hear yourself making sounds you didn't know you could make. You might cry a little (happy tears). You might order a second one before you've even finished the first. And here's the thing--the Chandler location executes this with flawless, almost artistic precision. The line moves fast, the staff is smiling, and they don't skimp. They don't hold back on the beef, they don't drizzle the cheese sauce like it's an afterthought--they PILE IT ON with pride. You can tell this team lives for these moments. They're not just serving food; they're delivering pure, unadulterated happiness. Even the atmosphere feels electric--like everyone in the room knows they're about to have their day made. You'll see strangers nodding at each other in mutual respect over their sandwiches. You'll hear "OMG!" echoed across the dining room (seriously). And when you finish that Big Beef Dipped--cheese sauce glistening on every corner, not a drop of au jus left--you'll sit back with a food coma smile so wide it hurts, already plotting your next visit. Bottom line: If you are within 50 miles of 7200 W Ray Rd, you have no excuse. Go. Right now. Order the Big Beef DIPPED with EXTRA cheese sauce. Thank me later. And maybe bring a napkin--because that cheese sauce is so good, you're going to want to lick every last drop off your fingers. Five stars? Try FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS PLUS A STANDING OVATION! This is the best sandwich I've ever had in my life, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to be this good.

On the first visit I ordered a chicken caesar salad and it was not bad. The issue was that I attempted to pre-order online on my phone and the order menu would not offer curbside pickup. So I decided to call the order in and a pleasant young man assured me he could bring me my order when I arrived because on was on crutches that day. However, when I arrived and was parked directly in front of the entrance with my car, only 8ft away, I called to announce my arrival. This time a woman answered the phone and I could sense immediately a change of the cheerful demeanor that I had experienced only minutes before. She confirmed that my order was ready and I asked her could she hand it to me while I'm in my car only a few feet from their front door. She gave me much attitude and did not want to bring the card swipe to my car. She protested but conceded. The store was practically empty. I took my food and left, kinda in a not so happy mood. The 2nd visit was today. Again on crutches but this time I hobbled into the restaurant and placed my order and I opted to eat inside the restaurant. I wanted to keep it simple today. I did not want all the extra options offered. I ordered a Ranchero Wrap, "without a side." I explicitly made this a point. Yet! The cashier attempted to pressure my to buy a soup and side that it would cost as much as the original side, some chips and salsa! She said the soup would only be $4 and some change. I had to insist that I did not want the soup. Plus the side soup was so tiny it definitely was not worth the cost. I asked for a cup for water and found my way to a table and then I realized carrying a cup of water to my table was not working out to wall with crutches. None of the staff provided any assistance so I sat down and begin to think out a strategy to retrieve my water when a patron came by and offered assistance. Phew! I received the "wrap" and it basically was a regular sized tortilla cut in half and folded one time because of the size of the tortilla one could only fold one side over the other. I've never seen a "wrap/tortilla" like this before in my life and had I known I think I would have been more pleased with some of the sandwiches that I saw served to the other patrons. The wrap/half burrito/tortilla had decent flavor but nothing that made me say wow. I think that in the future if I'm in the Gilbert area I will stick to that one. I have had a tremendous amount of success and satisfaction at the Gilbert location. At the Chandler location, meh.... I've seen and experienced enough. Oh... and the store was about the 1/4 capacity and there were so many tables that had not been cleared and clean.
