Spontaneously came in here after I was recommended by my girlfriends sister who had gotten her bellybutton pierced here a while back. Decided to go check it out and was so happy we walked in! I went in to get a half sleeve to pay full in cash. The person who was supposed to be doing my tattoo (and older man) first made me wait and hour and a half after my appointment. Second, when I finally came back to get my tattoo done I had mentioned to the artist that some mean person THAT I DON'T KNOW said that I shouldn't get tattooed by him or at the establishment at all. I let the artist know that I don't care about her opinion and that I love his work. He continues to sketch my tattoo(looking very angry) and then suddenly closes the book and tells me he's not going to be tattooing me and that he would NEVER tattoo me and to go get it done somewhere else. Although I told him I love his work. I started to cry because he was very unprofessional and rude to me. I had nothing to do with his previous client and even defended him to her. I am very sad and left without a tattoo. I would love to come back and be tattooed by him but he obviously doesn't like me just because I told him that some irrelevant person made a nasty comment about him. Even though I defended him, I was still asked to leave. Today was my only day off and now I won't be able to get the tattoo I wanted. I'm not mad I'm just very hurt about how poorly i was treated. Cool stuff everywhere like a sign that says "$5 charge for whining". the artist that did my tat was Juice & he was awesome. He did my tat really fast and made sure that I was comfortable. I got my nose pierced the 27th of August with Angel. Getting it was not an issue, everything was fine. The problem is he told me to /only/ Bactine and "none of that other sea salt crap" and that "it will be healed in a month". Cleaned it with Bactine as regulary as he told me to, and I assumed healing might take longer which is fine. However it doesn't look like it's getting any better nor is it infected. Asked friends who have had piercings before what to do and was told that whoever told me to clean the piercing with Bactine is completely wrong. I had looked into it before hand, but of course, I trusted a 'professional' more than anything. read more

I wanted to get a tattoo yesterday right on my 18th birthday. It was about 9:30-10pm but all the tattoo shops that said they'd be open until 11 were close(shame on them). Then, I found this place on yelp and now I'm glad all the other shops were closed. The tattoo artist (Angel) was very patient, nice, and detail oriented. He made humorous conversations throughout the process to calm my nerves and his drawing was very on point. He made the process as short as possible but also he was very keen on keeping all the details, making suggestions to how a tattoo would look best. He was also very happy to tailor to all my requests and was genuinely a very nice guy! He stayed until 11:30 or so, which was past their closing time, just to make sure my tattoo was perfect. Overall, I could not be more satisfied with the service and work of this place. read more

The piercer (Roman) was really good. He was friendly, he explained everything he was doing, explained the after care clear and concise. The shop gives you the vibe of an old school tattoo parlour, however, when you look past all the crazy art and colorful decor you realize it is in fact a very sanitary studio. I've seen the work that comes out from this place, there are no butchers working at Rubes, they are professionals who know their business and know it well. I would highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for quality work. Cheap tattoos aren't good, and good tattoos aren't cheap. They're lifetime investments, and as true as that statement is, Rubes isn't a ridiculously priced shop compared to some of the places I've seen. read more

It's funny. Every once in a while I check back here and see my review is gone. You guys need to know that An artist that works out of this shop named Mikio is bad news. He overcharged my girlfriend and tried to charge like 300 bucks for a small 45 min tattoo. He had his big gang member buddy back him up. I was going to get a half sleeve done but after that I was Like forget this place. I'm sure the other artists are good but avoid Mikio trust me he's shady. You would think that if an artist saw he had a lot of repeat business coming, he would give a fair price, but he did the opposite which chases business away. I checked online (they have a pretty cool web site) and his work was so colorful and amazing that I knew it was the right place for me. And Tom did not disappoint! When i went in to meet him, his next appointment had cancelled so he just fit me in his schedule right there and then. He works fast and he is easy to talk to and to work with. I think I had the owner who pierced my navel. He was nice and all, but the piercing came out in less than a year. He did not grab enough skin so my piercing actually ripped through. The piercing cost about $50. At first he was going to charge me $80 and then he gave it to me for $50. read more

I had a really enjoyable experience at this place and can't recommend it enough. When I came in with my sister and the employee she knew was very helpful. He helped me with the original design I had brought in and helped me try a lot of first impressions with stencil. I also liked the atmosphere of the entire place and how welcoming it all was. The other employees were also nice and I thought that the decorations were pretty dope. This is good because I really wanted to find a place I was sure I could trust. I ended up really liking the place and the person doing my tattoo. He took the time to print out two versions of the designs I had thought of and got it stenciled quickly. This really helped me ease into the idea of finally getting a tattoo. I was very nervous for a good amount of time but it slowly kept on getting better and better. He used the stencil to help me choose the right spot to put the tattoo. After I choose just the right spot he then helped me choose the colors I wanted to use. I saw one color that I really like and he even recommended. After getting everything set up he told me about the process and what it was going to be like. Then we finally started and the moment I felt the sharp pain signaled the point of no return. While the tattoo was painful as expected, my tattoo artist walked me through all of it. After 30 minutes of work I couldn't be happier with the results. He could not of met my expectations any better. I was really glad that the tattoo came out how I wanted it to and envisioned it. The color came out especially nice in the end. After all that my artist took the time to finish up any last details that needed to be done. He then gave me a good explanation of how to take care of the tattoo for the next couple days. It was all very helpful and was able to make sure my tattoo came out well. After a couple days the tattoo healed up and still looked good. I was worried for a while that it was going to end up really dry but I stuck to the instructions I was given. That what I did and it ended up healing well in a weeks time. After all this is was really glad I decided to follow through on getting a tattoo. This really opened up a gate for me and makes me open to getting more tattoos in the future. I'm giving the shop a five out of five because everything went well and I think that my tattoo came out perfect. In my opinion there is little place for improvement and can say that this is a good place to go for anyone getting their first tattoo. Again I had a blast with my entire experience and can't recommend this place more. I hope that this review was helpful for anyone looking into getting a tattoo. read more

This is a long overdue review... I been coming to Rubes for several years now. I have my piercings done there. And what I like the most was that I was taken care of very well. I always told myself that in the near future I would come to Rubes to get my first tattoo. Last Summer, I introduced my BFF to Rubes and was very happy with her Results. Juice was her tattoo artist. So last week my other BFF and I decided to go to Rubes and get some work done. My BFF got a body Piercing done by Ryan. And I decided to get my first tattoo. Juice did my tattoo and may I add: it's Fantastic!!!!.Ryan was awesome with my BFF piercing. He made the experience actually fun!. One thing that I like about Juice is that he understood about what I wanted. Which was a all white ink tattoo. Unlike other tattoo artist, he didn't try to talk me out of it or act like he never done one before and tried to fool me that he done many of them He knew what he was doing and did a great kick ass job. For sure I'll be returning back to Rubes real soon to get my second tattoo and to finish my piercings. P.S. The atmosphere is like a posses haunted place but interresting.. Tom is an incredible artist! He's been tattooing me for 16 years and has only gotten better over that time. He has done my entire back, shoulders, chest...etc. It's all classical Japanese tattoo work, but he's also amazing in any genre you can come up with. He's put together a great team of other tattoo artists at Rube's and you really can't go wrong. I'd recommend an appointment, but have seen walk ins get lucky. My friends and I came in on a sunday afternoon to get some peircings done I got my nose pierced and both of my friends got an industrial peircing. Corey the manager did an awesome job for all three of us I barely felt the pain considering I have a really low pain tolerance he made it a really easy and comfortable experience. I really wanted to like this place. I had multiple recommendations for Juice who pierces here. I called requesting him, but he was out for a few days. The guy who answered (Cory - the manager) said he could do them. We came in the next day. My friend just got her first and double lobes done. One of the set of earrings was VERY dull and did not even look new... If I didn't watch him take it out of the packaging I would have thought they were old. He said he saw what I was talking about when I complained and gave her earrings to make up for it so she can replace them in 6 weeks when they heal enough. Next up it was my turn. I wanted a triple forward helix done. He pierced all of them, but then put in butterfly back earrings instead of labret earring. After piercing them all, he spent 45 minutes trying to get the backs on. At this point I was in a ton of pain because they were being messed with for SO long. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but after 4 days of healing they are infected and searing with pain. I am having to go to a different piercing shop to get them fixed and get the RIGHT jewelry in. Now, with all of that said, Cory was very nice along with everyone else in the shop. It was a stressful situation, which was made more stressful by Cory getting clearly frustrated, upset, and cursing with each attempt to get the backs on. The tattoos that were being worked on looked dope and the customer service was great prior to the piercings, but I definitely wouldn't recommend this place with any piercings. Friendly and welcoming only go so far... and I feel like Cory didn't have the skills nor experience for piercing my triple forward helix. read more

I came here yesterday on the recommendation of my step-sister who had some work done by Mikey in the past. I had a drunken moment over the weekend and had something tatted on my foot that needed to be changed... like immediately. I walked in after work without an appointment and was greeted right away and was informed of the healing process and how long I needed to wait to have the one on my foot changed. While I was there, I inquired about a two year old tat on my wrist that was not done to my liking at another shop, then that artist that had done the original work had avoided phone calls when I was making an effort to get it corrected. Very frustrating to say the least, but nonetheless I wanted it fixed. I was introduced to Juice, and he went over the piece on my wrist and how he can fine tune it and correct the lines and color. I even asked his opinion about changing it and he told me that he could save it and keep my original idea. I immediately felt comfortable with his level of expertise and liked his ideas to correct it. He sat with me right away and fixed the work on my wrist. It came out fantastic!!! I've been hiding and embarrassed of the lackluster work done the first time at the other shop, and Juice brought life to it and cleaned it up and made it look great!!! I was so happy leaving there and now proud to show off my wrist. I will definitely be back in a few weeks to have Juice correct the tat on my foot. I feel beyond comfortable with him and his work and I'm confident he will be able to make it look amazing! I have a lot of friends with tattoos that recommended different shops in the area. I went with Rube's because my step-sisters's work by Mikey is fantastic so I had confidence in his shop and his team. I would definitely recommend this place and Juice to anyone thinking of getting anything done or corrected. read more
