5 years ago, I knew that I wanted a sleeve of my family's zodiacs but never knew how to go about it. I could never decide on a shop and didn't know which artist to go to. I had put it off since then until this year when a good friend of mine recommended me to come to Peter's shop. Knowing my friend, I decided to check it out. First impressions, Peter's shop has tons of artwork hung from the walls and I noticed that some pieces were gifted to him. To me, you must be a pretty well liked individual to be receiving gifts. Although the shop may feel overwhelming with all of the artwork around you, the area was clean and well kept. Upon entering I was greeted warmly by Peter and we talked about my interest in my tattoo. I let him know very generally that I wanted a dragon, two rabbits, a rat and a ram for my sleeve. With what information he had, he took off and made an outline of my sleeve which exceeded my expectations. The attention to detail was incredible and I was thoroughly impressed. Peter made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process of my tattoo. After 4 sessions with him I can say with confidence that he's a trustworthy, humble, honest and hard-working dude. Not once did I feel pressured into getting my tattoo. Peter always let me know of my options and that ultimately it was my decision to make. This way it made my tattoo feel flexible yet personalized. Peter's a reasonable man. I booked four 6 hour sessions with him at $600 per session. $2400 + tip for a sleeve with color is an incredible deal. I was never cheated out of my sessions because they were on my time. Most of the time, it would be me stopping the session for a brief moment to give my arm a break. Otherwise if I don't say anything then Peter would just continue to work straight. He definitely has the tenacity to work hard and won't cut you off of your time. My sleeve was never really determined from the beginning. I knew what I wanted, but not really. Peter helped me with that. Over time, he sculpted a vision for my tattoo. Details would change, color schemes would change, it was a very fluid process. He tries very hard to accommodate you and make sure that you get what you want. I'm extremely happy with my first tattoo. Surprised with myself that it was a whole ass sleeve. I'm very satisfied to have worked with Peter on it and would recommend him to anyone. This review is very long overdue. I want to say about 8 years overdue because that is when I got my first of many tattoos from Peter. First off, Peter is an amazing guy. Very down to earth and really listens to you when you are telling him what you want. He will also offer some good advice on where certain places on your body may fade faster than others and let you know where it is very painful. As of right now I have a total of 7 tattoos from Peter. My boyfriend has about 4 as well. His shop is clean and very welcoming. Wether you are there for 4 hours or 10 minutes, the ambiance is very calming. He will talk to you and sort of distract you from the pain. Let me tell you, it is welcomed! He is also very light handed so it doesn't hurt as much as you think it would. His prices are VERY reasonable and its best if you go in first to show him where and how big you want your piece. He requires a small deposit and then he will set a time. My initial thought on this location: Great place to get a tattoo if you live in the SGV area. Location is in a plaza close to Santa Anita mall. This place has street parking and you can park anywhere with ease. I told peter to do a tribal sketch for me and it turned out just like I wanted. Lines are straight and the tattoo healed perfectly in 2 weeks. Peter Gunz is light with his hands and quick to the touch. This is an honest review for Peter. So I got a tattoo from Peter 2 years ago, and I want to write this review because I do see some negative reviews on his Yelp Page, and I just want to reinforce that on Yelp because tattoos are permanent. I wanted to get a Bible verse on my chest, so I went to Peter because he tatted my first tattoo on my back, and I love it. However, not this time. He charged me 200 dollars, and I gave him $100 dollars tip beforehand because I appreciate the work he does. But the experience I had with him for my second tattoo was horrific. I asked him if he could make my words bigger and change my design, and he told me he would charge me extra 20 dollars because I would be wasting his paper. I mean I understand you would charge me, but 20 dollars for make the words bigger and print another piece of papers on my body would need extra 20 dollars? Also, I gave you 100 dollars tips because I appreciate you, so why would you charge me 20 dollars for just making the words a little bigger and for a piece of paper? I would pay, but when you said that I would waste your paper and your inks, I felt deeply upset. I chose to continue. After you finished my tattoo, I have no problem with it. 2 hours later, you told me that you spelled Psalm incorrectly, and right off the bet, you just straight out told me don't blame it on me, it was all your fault. Wow, Ok. I admitted that it was my fault, but as a tattoo artist, would you have to check the spelling too? And you said, I ain't no English major? I don't think it's about what you were majored in but rather it's a professional thing? I gave you two stars because you were being honest, and you wanted to make it up. One of my favorite experiences when getting a tattoo happened at Peter Gunz Tattoo Shop with Peter himself. First I was not sure what exactly I wanted as a tattoo, all I had was a basic outline and some ideas on what I wanted inside. Peter was so patient and professional with me. He put in my ideas but with his artist view. And only when I was very happy and sure about the end results on paper did he proceed to ink it on my skin. He is not one of those artist that just want to get it done with... he understands that your tattoo is going to be there for the rest of your life so it better look good! Like all the previous reviews have said, PETER IS AMAZING! I've always wanted a tattoo for a few years now but was always scared of the pain (I have zero pain tolerance fyi). So for my birthday and also Valentine's Day, my friend and I decided to finally get the tattoos we wanted as a way to start my 20s with a bang. My friend wanted 38 in Roman numerals ("XXXVIII") on his left chest while I wanted an outline of the sun on the Taiwanese flag on my upper back. We walked in at 3pm on a Saturday and the shop was empty. Peter attended to us immediately and gave us estimates on our design. Note that he has a $50 minimum no matter what the piece is and the price can increase depending on size and detail. Because it's CASH ONLY, we decided to come back at 4 after I calm my nerves and withdraw some money from the ATM at the nearby mall. Somehow at 4pm, I found the courage to come back to the shop where Peter gave us a couple of contracts to sign and printed out our designs to finalize the size of it for the stencil print. He was super gracious in making a ton of adjustments and making sure we were happy with the size and placement of our respective design. Both my friend and my tattoos ended up to be $50. My friend went first and it took around 10 minutes so before I knew it, IT WAS MY TURN. Peter placed the print right in the center of my upper back, making sure that the tip of the highest ray was exactly at where my shoulders met. I'm so appreciative that he truly cares about and listens to what you want because I mean, this tattoo is going to be there forever. He sat me down and we began. Mine took 20 minutes and wasn't as excruciatingly painful as I had imagined (Did I mention I have a fear of needles?) In fact, I didn't even cry. My friend has once described to me that getting a tattoo felt like getting cut slowly by a shard of glass and I have to say that it's a pretty damn good description of how it felt. All in all, the pain is bearable because your desire for the tattoo should overpower your fear of the process. Mine certainly did. Peter is amazing! I had drawn out the design I wanted. He helped me size it out correctly and did such an immaculate job, even with the tiniest of details... I'm also a complete weenie when it comes to pain.
