I came in to ask for pricing on a small tattoo that I wanted on my wrist. The tattoo artist, Huu (I think that's how his name was spelled), was very friendly and helpful. I showed him the picture of the tattoo I wanted and he quoted me $120. I was okay with the price and decided to proceed with it. I asked if I can pay with card, he said yes but there would be a 3% fee for that. It was understandable since it's a small private shop. Since I told him it's my first time getting a tattoo, he was very considerate and asked if I was feeling okay several times during the procedure. What could have been a bad experience in the beginning because of lack of communication worked out at the end. My cousin has had work done by Tommy. He does great work. Story time.. A few years ago I mentioned I wanted to get a tattoo (my very first) so my cousin gifted me a gift certificate from here worth a couple hundred dollars. It was good for two years.. i forgot about it for a while.. close to the expiration date I contact this place to make an appointment via email. After days of emailing back and forth I finally set a date and a time and more importantly a design. So.. the day of my appointment I leave work early (I work in DTLA) where traffic is ridiculous. I come in and say I'm here for an appointment with Tommy.. the two guys there look at me like I'm dumb lol then they look at each other and make a face.. so odd. Finally Huu approaches me and tells me that Tommy isn't here. WTF! He says Tommy doesn't have any appointments scheduled for that day. SMH! At this point I'm pissed. I'm literally excited to get MY FIRST TATTOO and the artist is a no show. I explain to Huu that I've been in contact with someone via email and they confirmed my appointment. He basically tells me that the person I was emailing didn't write it in the calendar. (My dumb butt didn't even notice that there was no name of the person emailing me on the signature). I asked who monitors the emails and Huu didn't snitch. He instead apologizes and offers to tattoo me himself. (Oh but before he called Tommy to explain the situation and Tommy said he didn't have an appointment scheduled. Blah blah. I was upset. I told Huu I wanted to redeem my certificate and he said I could either come back another day and redeem it with him or have it done by Huu and pay everything out of pocket (he didn't accept my gift certificate). My bf convinces me to just get it done then and there so I do. Huu sketched out my design and was setting up. I was super nervous. But still pissed that they played me and did me dirty on my appointment. Overall I loved my tattoo. Huu was great! He was nice and had a light hand. In the end I'm glad I decided to get tattooed anyways. I'd most definitely come back for another tattoo from Huu. Dope dude!! I still have the $200 gift certificate.. expired and all but heyyy.. it happens. I just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

Before I visited all these tattoo shops in the area, I read the reviews extensively on all of them. I designed my own tattoo which consisted of 3 initials. It was a very simple tattoo so i could of went anywhere to get it done. I first checked out 2 other tattoo shops just north of Fresh Ink on Baldwin Avenue. The first one I visited, the owner was cool but he didn't seem to enthusiastic about it and I felt a little dismissed by his attitude. The shop also wreaked of cigarette smoke. I don't care if someone is a smoker, but businesses have to be mindful that not all customers like the smell of cigarettes. So to think that I would have up sit there and inhale the scent of cigarettes while getting a tattoo didn't sit well with me at all. Secondly when asked how long it would approximately take to tattoo it, he said about 7 minutes. Hhhhhmmmm, that also didn't sit well with me. I went to visit the next tattoo shop and was met by a very nice apprentice that was professional and he was pretty enthusiastic. He played around with design and took his time talking to me. I wanted my tattoo in dark blue ink but he said that he didn't have much experience with color yet. He was super nice but I decided to check out one last shop, Fresh Ink Tattoos. And I am so glad I checked them out last. All the reviews were stellar about Tommy and Hu. When I walked in, I immediately noticed how clean the place was. I was greeted by Hu. He was personable, professional and very helpful. I showed him my creation and I also had some other ideas. Hu took the time to draw and recreate what I had envisioned. I asked if he would be able to do color and he said it wouldn't be a problem. After talking to him, I made a tentative appointment with him. When I arrived for my appointment a few days later with my boyfriend, Hu was again nothing but professional and courteous. He took his time to make sure the size of the tattoo was just right and the placement of it was also perfect. During the process, we had a friendly conversation. Hu is super down to earth and really makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. The tattoo took about an hour. He took his time and didn't rush even though it was a simple tattoo. My boyfriend and I are super happy with the end product. I absolutely recommend Hu if you're in market to get a tattoo. I mentioned that I wanted to get a huge tattoo of a Phoenix and he was humble enough to say that if I wanted a big piece like that, I should get it done by Tommy, the owner. Popped my first tattoo cherry. Walked in at noon with some questions and inquiries, Tommy was friendly and helpful answering them. Gave him an image of what I wanted off my phone. A simple lotus outline about the size of my fist. Tommy fit me in before his next appointment that day and I was done in within the hour completely satisfied with the work. Came in September for a very sentimental tattoo to myself. I had a tough 2015, especially with my family so I wanted to get a yin yang tattoo with my parents last names in Chinese as the two circles. I traversed the yelp pages for a good tattoo spot that did beautiful chinese characters. I know shops that don't have asian artists aren't bad, but I was so impressed by the gallery of asian culture and especially of the calligraphy work done by Tommy. I went in with my design and Tommy just happened to be there (about to work on a backpiece I might add) and scheduled me for the next week. My design wasn't overly complex so when I went in to get it done, it was just holding my breath and staying still for the huge spot of black ink I was adding for the yin yang. Tommy was amazing and very gentle and fast. Took about an hour and a half to two hours and it turned out exactly like I wanted! Will definitely be my go to spot for tattoos from now on. Price wise I paid about $200 and tipped $50. I think for the great work you get here, it is just the right price. read more

Clean and sterile environment this tattoo shop has a comfortable atmosphere compared to the other tattoo shops I have visited where I live in (Orange County, CA). I came in yesterday for a four hour session to get my back finished and was expecting to be in serious pain! But no, Tommy has a light hand and it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. My tattoo came out great and I'm happy I drove the extra hour drive from Westminster to Arcadia it was well worth it for the quality work I got.
