Good tattoos, not so good people…read more I got my first tattoo by Jess years ago. The tattoo was simple and came out decent. The experience, however, was horrible. I wanted the design to be smaller, there was something wrong with the printer that day and the shop assistant had trouble making the stencil smaller. After a couple of tries Jess starts roid raging and slams the clipboard on the counter (I kid you not) and said something like whatever man I'll hook you up, meaning he's willing to tattoo it bigger for me even though I didn't want it that size. Wow, geez thank you your majesty Jess Yen, I am so blessed to get something I didn't want after watching you act out violently. Years later I decided to try again, this time with his apprentice Lucy. I had a phone consultation with her and she agreed to do my tattoo saying that her wait time is 2-3 years. I agreed and paid her a deposit. It's been more than 10 years now and I have not heard from her or gotten my deposit back. When I reached out to her, she tried to gaslight me saying that I missed my appointment. I was never informed of an appointment. First the owner display questionable emotional stability over something a little as resizing the stencil and then his apprentice scams me for a few hundred dollars. Yeah, this place gets negative stars if I could.

I sent reference photos and explained the style I was looking for beforehand, but the final tattoo didn't really resemble what I had in mind or what I sent over. The appointment itself felt awkward and pretty unwelcoming. There wasn't much communication about the design or style during the session, and I left feeling unsure about it almost immediately. Considering I paid over $500, I expected a much more collaborative experience and a result that felt more personalized. A little over a year later, I ended up paying another artist to completely cover it with the design I originally wanted in the first place (for the same price). I know every artist has their own process and style, and I'm sure some people have had great experiences, but mine unfortunately wasn't one of them.

I've met all the artists and they all welcome you as soon as you walk in. My artist is Kaythleen. She is awesome. I met her when she was an apprentice. I was looking for an artist that would do a memorial to one of my Frenchies who passed away. It had to be perfect. After speaking to her about my idea(s), she offered to me, with 100% confidence that she could do a "Realism" portrait of him. After putting my trust in her, she came through. She blew me away with the final stroke of her tattoo gun. I couldn't have been happier. Following that, I asked her to do a portrait of my other Frenchie. She immediately said yeas and was very excited to continue this journey. She delivered another masterpiece. Now I have both of my boys on my leg. We talked and discussed my next project. By this time Kaythleen had earned the title of Tattoo Artist. She was no longer an apprentice. I had been wanting to do a full leg sleeve of the Darkside characters of Star Wars. Mainly sidious, maul, and vader. She was again very excited to take on this challenge and make it happen. I come up with the concept and some artwork, she spins it in her mind and comes up with the layout. Somfar on this journey, it has been nothing short of amazing. After getting a few small pieces done at Anvil -- a place that has always provided a reliable, safe, and comfortable space for me-- I was looking for an artist for my pops, who at the age of 61, wanted to immortalize our Pekingese whom he essentially raised from birth. After coming across Kaythleen's work on Anvil's socials, we were really impressed by her b/w portraits and line work, and decided to book an appointment. Not only did she deliver an amazing piece, but she also helped foster a core experience for my father who shared that she was patient, kind, and meticulous. We all wanted something a little different to commemorate our annual girls trip. I have a full sleeve already and lots of leg tattoos, one of us had only 2 tattoos, and the other is somewhere between so we all have different levels of experience getting tattooed. The shop has an old school aesthetic but without the traditional too tough to be kind and helpful vibe. Everyone was very friendly. They answered all our questions and drew up exactly what we wanted.
