After having to call them near the end of the day for an update (they didn't reach out), they informed me that my vehicle needed a $3,700 repair. I approved the work and waited nearly a week for completion. Upon pickup, the same burning odor persisted in the cab. I had to return the truck and leave it again. Their response? The first expensive repair wasn't actually the problem, and I needed an additional $1,100 worth of work - with no guarantee this would resolve the issue. Needing my vehicle for work, I reluctantly approved this second repair. When my husband went to pick up the truck after this second round of repairs, it wouldn't even start and had engine warning lights on. Their response was dismissive despite the fact I'd just spent nearly $5,000 and my truck still wasn't operational. Their solution was simply that they 'needed to diagnose the problem some more.' At this point, I've paid thousands for incomplete repairs, lost valuable time without my vehicle, and received poor communication throughout the process. After trying to contact the dealer (no response), two independent auto repair shops (no response), I decided to stop at the Pit Stop where I have gone for oil changes for over 10 years. They immediately saw the problem when I pulled in, and I told them that I would pay them whatever they thought was appropriate to just reattach the shield so it wasn't dragging. After about 10 minutes, they emerged from the pit beneath the car and said it was all repaired. When I asked how much I owed them, they said "nothing." I insisted on tipping them for their time and trouble, but I was amazed that a repair for which any of the shops/dealers would have likely charged me over $100 and insisted on an appointment was handled by the Pit Stop crew at no charge with no waiting. Worried about being stranded on the highway in the 90+ degree temps, we pulled over in Clare to see if we could figure out what the cause was. We called ahead to several repair businesses in Clare and all were booked out 2 weeks. So, we saw Johnson's Automotive listed in Mt. Pleasant and called them. They said they could fit us right in. Our car made it to their place. Their tech got it right in, found that the lug nuts had not been torque-tightened by a previous dealership after a tire rotation, and he fixed the issue and made sure the other three tires were tightened properly. Had us fixed up in less than 30 minutes. We wanted to pay them, we were so grateful, but they charged us nothing. Everyone there was so kind. We are grateful for their help. Went to go change my oil and managed to strip my drain plug. Apparently the tech at the dealer that…read moredid the last one went a little torque-happy. I called these guys to see if they could help me out with getting the bolt out, assuming it'd be a weird request. They were happy to have my come in, though, and took care of the oil change for me while they were at it. Since I already had the oil, filter, and replacement plug they only charged me $10! Everyone who I spoke to was friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy their work. Bonus points for knowing how to drive a stick (you'd be surprised how often employees tire/car places no one that can). I would definitely recommend them to a friend!
