-November 8, 2025, we took our 2017 Ford Mustang Ecoboost to RS Automotive in Van Nuys. The repairman (lead repairman) said there's a misfire in the cylinder #2 (ignition coil) and the purge valve was not operating properly. That day we only did spark plugs and air filter. -On December 31, 2025, we brought it back to finish the work because of a rough idle. They then replaced #2 ignition coil, purge valve, lube and oil filter. BUT, after leaving the shop and driving for about 20 minutes, the car stuttered and shut off on the 405 FWY but then restarted. We brought it back to the shop immediately (same day) and the guy said it might be a faulty part OR maybe it was because we put gas in the car after we left (which was ridiculous of him to tell us that). They ended up replacing the part that same day. -The Mustang sat in front of our house for 3 days because it was raining. -On January 5, 2026, we went back to work and the car stuttered and shut off on my husband while driving but he was able to get it to our home in Santa Clarita from Irvine. -We called and spoke with Jennifer (front desk) and the repairman and they came up with lame excuses saying they couldn't explain it and we might have another faulty part. No regard for our safety and travel time. -Today, January 17, 2026, we brought it to Pep Boys and they reported that the last repairman (RS Automotive) left the coils and/or other parts loose. They needed to be tightened. -Never again will we go to RS Automotive in Van Nuys. They did a sloppy job with sloppy excuses, zero care for our safety, and zero accountability. read more

I had my 2014 Buick Encore towed to RS Automotive on May 20th. It needed lots of work, head gasket, transmission flush and A/C fixed. I spoke with Reydolfo before and he was very friendly, helpful and informative. It took a month for it to finally get fixed but they did an amazing job with a very good price!! The only thing I would say is that I would have appreciated more communication. But I did call a few times and Jenn was very professional and helpful. Had a situation where AAA couldn't understand what was wrong with my car (broken ignition cylinder) but I did - called RS Auto & explained what the problem was. Spoke to a great lady in the office who was kind and understanding, and happy to provide me updates during the process. I was so sad to hear that, unfortunately, Ric passed away Yesterday, I tried calling his direct number but the line service kept dropping so I called the shop's number. I was expecting to hear Ric's voice once the call was picked up but instead it was another person. He introduced himself, Rudy, and asked me how I know Ric. I told him that I have gone to Ric a few times whenever I have car troubles and Ric has always been SO HONEST and helpful that is why I keep going back to him. And that is when Rudy mentioned that Ric passed away a few weeks ago which caught me of guard. I mentioned my condolences for him, all of his love ones and employees. It's just so sad and shocking to hear a good honest man pass away so sudden... I informed Rudy that the Toyota dealership gave me a list of services that "NEEDS" to be attend to ASAP. Rudy told me to stop by and he will check it out personally...and not charge me at all. I was so grateful that Rudy made me feel like I am still dealing with Ric because I am pretty sure that would be the exact words that Ric would be telling me. Brought in my car today around 11am and Rudy checked and provided his honest evaluation and came to a conclusion that I DO NOT require any of these services at this time which was a HUGE relief for me. I am truly appreciative that Rudy will continue Ric's honest and sincere approach to dealing with customers, like myself, that do not know a lot about cars. It is VERY DIFFICULT to find a mechanic that will honestly tell you the truth because at the end of the day, business is business, and they have to make money. RS Auto Service - Toyota Dealership's "REQUIRED" services - Auto Repair Near Me - Van Nuys, California

I dont like writing negative reviews, but I think one is called for here. I went to this shop for several years, first under Ric, then under his daughter. The first thing that you will see about this place is that it is crammed with cars. Cars that look like they have been sitting for a very long time. Crammed to the point where you may well have trouble even getting your car on the property, let alone into a bay. Even the office seems crowded with things and disorganized. The service tickets are handwritten, which means they have no database of what has been done. I went in to have the coolant in my Ford changed. I asked for Motorcraft Gold coolant, because it is specified in the owner's manual. This was understood and written up on the ticket. When i get the car back and pop the hood, was that coolant in there? NOPE, just some green coolant probably on the shelf. Was I charged for the Motorcraft coolant? You bet. On a previous visit, I had asked RS to flush my transmission. Years later, having avowed never to return to RS after the coolant episode described above, I had another shop service the transmission again, as it was due. They called me on the phone and told me that the previous servicer (RS Automotive) did not install a certain bolt after their "service", rounded off another one, and doubled up some O rings as well. RS is the only one who touched the transmission, so no doubt they did this hodge podge repair. All of which confirmed what I already knew--stay away from RS Automotive. read more

Sadly, Rick passed away suddenly a couple of days ago. Our family & friends have always gotten good service there; he would even let us leave a car there at no cost for months on end while insurance issues were ironed out. His mechanics had taken on much of the burden in the past few years, and I'm sure they will continue to do so. Rick is the only mechanic in Los Angeles that I trust. He doesn't rip you off, he can always fit you in, and he is always happy to answer questions. I have used him for several cars that I have owned. And on one experience in particular, I was quoted by Firestone to replace the spark plugs in my Dodge Avenger and clean the oil spill for $450. Recently my transmission was going out and Rick told me we could try sensors first before jumping right into a new transmission. He quoted me a price on the sensors and I returned the next weekend to have them installed. The final price was actually lower than the estimate! Sensors are in and have been just fine for the last 3 months. My daughter was having engine trouble and a big chain auto supply place told her it was going to be $3,000to fix. I found RS Auto Service by googling auto mechanics near me. I have a 2004 Saturn Vue and use it to Uber in and it needed repairs from all of the beatings it takes from LA's decrepit roads and 50K worth mileage from Ubering. Rick's mechanics have fixed my car struts after I had some cheap struts installed which only lasted five months, by one of those online car services who come to your location/home and fix your car. When I told this online car service what RS Auto concluded about the cheap struts they sent another mechanic to my house and try to convince me via driving car around that the problem was not struts because no leaks were detected coming from struts...When I used RS Auto to replace struts the problem went away. Meanwhile, online car service strongly suggested I replace axle and problem would go away... read more

I know enough about cars and car maintenance to know when someones trying to get over on me, which is what most of the quick stop chain businesses do (i.e. "charging you $30 to change an air filter that cost $5 at AutoZone and takes 10 seconds and remedial mechanical knowledge to install). My family has been taking our vehicles to Rick since the late 80's (when he was at a different location). My wife took her car Honda in a few years ago when she suddenly started getting tire noise. When she picked it up it turned out to just be the shroud rubbing the tire, big deal. The price Rick charged her was $18. There was no "I had to replace this..." " I found something wrong over here..." It was just $18. When was the last time you took a car into a mechanic for ANY reason and had the bill be less than $20? I had a plastic piece hanging from the bottom of my car and I stumbled across R&S Auto not only were the nicest guys ever they fixed the problem checked my whole car and when I thought I needed to have my breaks fixed and all these things they insured me that it wasn't time yet and for me not to spend the extra money right now. Luis helped me with everything. He was very thorough and even showed me how to check my own tires so I know when its time to replace them and how to check them if you decide to buy used tires.
