I have never left a negative review before but the customer service here was so disappointing that I feel that I need to caution other potential customers. The owner was very kind when he initially repaired my car's splash guard and the price was fair considering parts and labor. However, I returned because it came loose 2 months later and I was hoping for an equivalent repair. I was happy with what had been done earlier. I was prepared to pay for service as well, despite the 6 month guarantee on my receipt. As soon as I arrived and explained my problem, seemingly out of nowhere the lady at reception began to berate me about being a bad driver and bumping my car, pointing out unrelated scrapes on my bumper. It was very uncalled for and rude, especially since I hadn't asked for free or discounted service. I hadn't even spoken with the mechanic himself. I understand auto shops may have customers coming in with unreasonable requests, but I had not even made a request before the receptionist started to insult my driving habits. She was essentially accusing me of lying about the part coming loose when I hadn't made any claims about it being the mechanic's fault. I wanted to continue to support this business because I was happy with the service I had been provided initially, but I do not feel comfortable returning after being treated this way. read more

Everyone was very nice and it was a pleasure to talk about the problem on my car. The owner listened very patiently and did not talk over me. -- not the typical fast cursing mechanic mentality. I had an emergency and needed the starter on my Honda CRV repaired the same day and even a ride back home afterward. I think it was Mauricio who I spoke with but he was incredibly helpful and did everything he could to help me out. Rush ordered the part I needed and was ready for me to drop off the car. Unfortunately for him, I called AAA to jumpstart my car so I could drive it over to Nippon but the technician said it was the battery (which was still under warranty) and not the starter! Had to cancel my appointment with Mauricio and felt terrible after he already ordered the part and everything. Felt I owed him a positive review at least even though he was very gracious about it. Took my Honda CRV to be evaluated. After two days of keeping the car he gave an estimate for $1300. We refused the estimate and requested the car back. He reused to give us the car and wanted to bill us for $168 for no reason. We had to call the police and threatened to have him arrested for attempting to steal the car. Beware of Nippon automotive. I just gave them a called and I asked them for an estimate on brake bleeding and he said what was wrong with the car. I told him I replaced the brake booster and master cylinder and I tried to brake bleed it myself but did not succeed. He tells me something else is wrong with my car so he can't brake bleed my brakes. All I asked was for an estimate for brake bleeding. If they would have done the brake bleed first and nothing has changed with the brake pedal feeling different then before, then he could have said something else is wrong with my car. Man o Man, what is not good about this place ?This place is the crown jewel of Mechanic shops in the valley. Mauricio is both the great mechanic and honest owner. He's been servicing my 2000 Lexus GS300 with 150,000 thousand miles and still driving better than some of these new modeled cars that are out. He is very honest on his pricing and will not try to throw in any other hidden fees or overprice you on anything. The other Mauricio 2nd mechanic is great as well. I have been bringing my car here for the last 15 years. I have had no problems with the service. Mauricio owns and does the service himself, he is wholely responsible for his work not like some minimum wage guys at the dealership or jiffy lube. The bozos at the dealership usually leaves after they get some work experience screwing with your car. The work here is always perfect and not overpriced. You should try this place. Nearly 5 PM and I discovered that my Prius is dead as a door nail. I needed to have it towed to a place that can work on it the same night and have it back to me in the morning. I know that the nearby Toyota dealerships are not known for being accommodating. I discovered Nippon automotive by searching on Yelp. Lots of five star reviews for Mauricio. Mauricio answered the phone himself and couldn't be nicer. He promised to wait around until my car was brought in. He even gave me the cell phone number of a tow truck operator that he thought would be able to help. The car got to him around 5:30 PM. He promised that he would have it back to me by 11 the next morning. Sure enough, about 10:45, he called me to let me know that the car was ready. Do not bring your car here expecting discount prices. His prices are comparable to what I would've paid at the dealership. However, I couldn't ask for a more accommodating service experience. I definitely will be using Mauricio again should I run into problems with my Prius. A word of warning. His shop is not located on Reseda Boulevard despite the fact that the address states that it is. To get there you need to turn west off of Reseda on to Hart Street and look at the end of the first driveway on the south side of the street. read more

I drove by his office nearly at closing time because I had a severely cracked windshield and I needed it fixed ASAP because I'm going out of town this weekend. Mauricio made it happen and for an awesome price! I originally brought my Toyota Corolla that I just bought from a friend (had 204,000 miles on it) and I needed to make sure it would last me. Mauricio helped take care of my car, did the best oil change and gave me recommendations on how to keep an older Toyota with a lot of miles running efficiently. Nothing but great things to say about these folks, from the beginning of my experience to the end. Needed a bit of an emergency diagnosis on my aging sedan this week. Drove to that whole strip of auto shops on Reseda Blvd. and picked Z Technics first. The guy said he was booked for like a week straight. Hopped back in my car and cruised Yelp for a bit more. Found Nippon, saw the consistently stellar reviews (not just on Yelp) and called. "When do you want to come in?" "Uh, I'm pretty much sitting outside your shop. Can do you now?" "Let me take a look outside and see how we're doing... *shuffling* HEY, WE GOT A GUY WHO NEEDS TO COME IN NOW. WILL THAT WORK? ... can you do an hour from now?" "Yeah totally" "Awesome see you then!" So that flexibility was promising. So I come in, receptionist is super nice to me right off the bat, remembers me, tells me to have a seat, scrambles around turning on the AC for me and offering a cold bottle of water. I help myself to a snack sitting there for guests. This place has the vibe of a real family shop which is going extinct. Lots of letters of testimonials from devout customers, a separate poster dedicated just to people's first visit, with their mileage, and then another visit like 10 years later where they've put another 150,000 miles on their car... really earnest stuff. Maybe 20 minutes pass and Mauricio comes out and explains to me very simply what the error code I was getting meant, and says he doesn't repair transmissions, he only replaces them entirely. So, I was sad that he couldn't help me, but then he doesn't hesitate to give me the card for Leon's Transmission, says they're good dudes who'll take care of me. That's where my story picks up after this place. But, he didn't charge me anything! Everyone treated me really decent... if it weren't time for me to replace my car ultimately you can bet that they've earned another devout customer! Bravo. read more

Mauricio has been my dad's mechanic for years. I'm very thankful that I finally took my dad's advice and came here. It's been about 3 years and 50,000 or more miles and my car is still running great. My car is over 11 years old now, but Mauricio has literally extended the life of it. He only suggests things that are necessary to fix and he offers the best quality parts for a fair price. I initially came here because of a bad experience at an oil change location. I went in a few times and each time they suggested little things to fix, but the last time was so different. They told me there were about $2,000 of things that "had to be done or else". When I asked to wait a bit so I could save a little money or think about it, they said I should open up a credit card with them. Well needless to say, I never went back (: I went to Mauricio because of being tired of other mechanics always suggesting random things to fix that were perfectly fine. Mauricio is very fair and honest. If there is something to fix, he lets you know how urgent. He doesn't make you feel pressured to fix things. He lets you know all of the facts too. And Norma!
