Ya know... from the start, Matt was great... smart, direct... nice. I mean, whatever happened to people just being nice when they answer the phone? I called about ten places before deciding where to go and I hate to say that I based my decision entirely on one guy being nice... but that's mostly what I did. When I dropped my car off I met Arthur (owner?)... same. Can we get back to my car? My car (2019 Audi Q5) suddenly lost a lot of power while I was driving home (but still 30 miles away) so I was able to get it back home but had no clue as to why it was kind of doggin' it and I couldn't go more that 50 mph on freeway and between warning lights and the general understanding of how much car repair costs, I figured this could be $300 to $2000. Matt tells me they want to do a "smoke test"... $150 so I'm thinking, OK, smoke test then $1,000 to repair whatever issue they find. Nope. Smoke test showed a part adjacent to the turbocharger was loose so they tightened it up. Who gets out of a car repair shop for $150? Anyway... this isn't a HUGE shop with 8 bay and 12 mechanics but it's your reliable corner mechanic that has nice people, transparent communications and a clean shop. And it's the only place I'm going for the foreseeable future. read more

Almost 3 months after meeting Matt, I brought my 2013 Hyundai Accent in again for something else. He wasn't there, but I got to meet the owner, Arthur, who helped me out. He had Alex drive my car around the block with me, and of course, the problem didn't happen. Being a mechanic for decades, he assured me that's often the case. What I was experiencing was that when I shifted into drive (like after being in neutral at stoplights), it repeatedly went into low gear. (A friend had pointed out that shifting into park & back into drive worked). Alex mentioned that low transmission fluid might contribute to the issue, so I'm watching for a leak. Arthur explained that since the check engine light wasn't on that it would be difficult to track down without a code. He didn't charge me anything, and needless to say, I'm keeping it in drive at stoplights. Eventually, when the light comes on I'll have it checked out. I have a regular mechanic I like, but I used Corner Automotive to get an oil change while working in the area. They had really good online reviews, so I gave them a call. I had a gap in my day and Matt was so kind on the phone and squeezed me in. I told him about an oil leak I had that was smoking and he said while they were in there they would take a look at it and give me an estimate. Matt was very personable and thorough in explaining the problem. He even honored a new customer coupon that I mentioned. I really like this place. They seem very honest and they had me on my way in 40 min, so I could get to work on time. Even though I don't live near here, I will be back if I need a routine oil change between work appointments. Art was the nicest most honest mechanic I have ever come across. I took my dad's car because it would randomly lose power. ( I was told alternator or short somewhere) when I stopped by and expressed my concern he calmed me down and said let's just check the battery. ( this was over a year ago) and I should have reviewed it then. Regardless, my battery was changed over a year ago, and had the same problem yesterday. I thought I had 12 month warranty and he could have agreed and sold me another battery. These guys are awesome. I had an unexpected issue pop up with the cooling system on my 2007 335i and didn't want to deal with a tow to my normal shop. Checked Google for close shops and these guys were a 1/4 mile up the road. Called and asked to bring it in expecting to leave it but Matt took a quick look and said he'd be able to fix it in 40 minutes. He walked me through everything and helped me understand what I needed to prioritize, no high pressure sales environment which is why I've avoided establishments like these in the past. The Toyota dealership maintenance plan forced me to get things done that I felt I did not need and it's packaged and very pricey. If you're new to the area, new to owning a BMW/Mini, or just need to try a new mechanic, nothing is more daunting than finding one you can rely on. I've owned, loved and spent a fortune paying for repairs on five BMWs in the past, this is my first Mini. (BMW now owns and manufactures Mini cars). I fall mostly into the last category. I don't live as close to my old BMW guy anymore, more truthfully, I needed to try a new mechanic. While I came across Corner Auto the old fashioned way, through personal referrals, I use Yelp regularly for recommendations and reviews. In return, I do my best to share my own reviews. I am an actual Corner Automotive customer, one who also values the virtues of Yelp. So, back to this review... For [practically] a one-man shop, (also literally tucked in a small corner) Arthur is fast. My engine swap took only five days. For a BMW specialist, he's VERY reasonably priced. On a previous trip to Corner (my first being my Mini's first breakdown), I started my search for a worthy mechanic by calling the local Mini shop I pass on my drive home. He knew the exact issue I was calling about, one quite common among my generation of Mini (R56), and had a quote on the tip of his tongue. While still on the phone with him, and the $1200 quote unpleasantly ringing in my ear, I remembered my Father (who has an X3 and a 750il) telling me about a shop his neighbor suggested to him, one which they have both used. That was my second call. My third call was to my dad's referral, Corner Auto. Matt answered and I explained the issue to him. From what my dad told me I knew Corner Auto as a BMW-centric shop. That being the case I agreed when Matt asked if he could do a little research and call back with a quote asap. He not only called back before I finished my lunch, the quote he called back with was $500 less than the first shop I called. Needless to say, between paying $1200 at some random shop or spending $700 at the shop my own Father referred presented an obvious choice. I booked a time to bring my car in right then. One last topic to bring up. You've read that Corner Auto deals mainly in BMW and partly in Mini, however, in my visits I've seen all makes and models in the garage. I have a 20 year old high mileage BMW X5, bought for very little, which I really love. Very powerful - fast, comfortable, great handling' four wheel drive - drinks gasoline like there was no tomorrow. The price of fun I guess. I negligently let it severely overheat, and after being screwed by a local shop who mis-diagnosed, replaced parts "maybe this?" and overcharged I was informed by them that a "head warp cost $7,000-$8400 "mostly labor". I let the car sit for a while and started saving our $$ in a piggy bank named BMW. A tow trucker recommended Corner, who correctly diagnosed the issues, replaced the water pump and parts of the cooling system and charged much, much, more reasonably. At the time I was living out in the valley, I was trying to find a BMW service mechanic around the area that I can trust. I own a BMW 328i series. I first came out to Corner Automotive for an oil change, and my first experience was on point. Arthur, the mechanic, was very communicative with me as he was doing my oil change. The price was very reasonable. Fast forward almost 2 years after getting serviced, now living in Highland Park/South Pasadena, I received a text from them about their 50% off on their summer service. I needed a brake fluid exchange, and AC wasn't blowing cold air anymore. (I already have an appt with another BMW automotive close but won't be able to take my car til mid August; in addition, I was quoted $500+ from Bimmer Phd for the same service). Corner Automotive quoted me over text and was able to bring in my car the next day. For the summer deal they are having, I was quoted $200. Arthur is very communicative and informative on what my car needed to be done. I also had light bulb problems and he was able to check on it as well. Even though I came in for a brake fluid exchange and AC recharge, he even went ahead and changed my cabin air filter for a reasonable price $28, luckily he had the filter on hand. He also told me that I'm at 4mm on my rear brakes, and that I needed to change them soon before it hits 3mm. Lucky I found this place as Arthur was very helpful, knowledgeable and experienced, especially with BMWs since he worked for officials for a long time. His prices are few times lower than dealers, but the service quality is the same if not better (it all depends on who your technician is at dealer). If he doesn't have parts, he will get them the same day; service is super quick, and it is really important for me that nobody is trying rip you off by upselling.
