Used RPS Remodeling in 2017 for a complete siding, window, roof replacement. The job went well and the place looked wonderful. However, we are now 6 years in and the paint has spotting wherever the workers used non-Hardie branch caulking to fill the nail holes. This means that even though we paid extra for the painted version of Hardie, we are now needing to repaint the house. Also, the roof that was installed is now leaking through one of the vents installed, destroying the roof in the guest room. We have called Rick for the past two weeks (he returns calls and says he will call back and say he will call in a few days with a date; but doesn't. In the two weeks we have spent chasing him down, we could have called a roofer out to have it repaired. One of his selling points was that he was the primary contact if anything went wrong with the job down the road. We don't have time to continue to call and try to get him out here, so we are now going to call the roof contractor who installed it. Just be aware that down the road, you are on your own with anything that goes wrong with the job. read more

My overall experience with RPS Remodeling was extremely disappointing! The siding project took 13 days and the contractor Rick James or his project manager, Paul Martinez only showed up on 3 occasions for about 10 minutes each. Basically, none of the work was supervised! Remaining issues that need remediation, such as earth-ground contact, were communicated clearly and Rick assured me that all would be taken care of. I reached out to Mr. Martinez, about my gutters being incorrectly reinstalled and he denied any gutters had been removed! How would he know, when he was barely ever on the job site?! My neighbor saw the gutter angled toward my chimney, approached the workers, and one of them agreed that they had removed/reinstalled the gutters. They corrected this. In some areas, watered down paint was sloppily applied, leaving messy paint spatters on stairs, windows, screens, and concrete. I contacted Paul Martinez, again, about the remaining issues on11/11/22, via text, with zero response to date. Today, I texted Rick James, asking for remediation of remaining issues. Contractor Rick James replied today, as follows: "Job has passed all inspections. We are completed." I left a voicemail message with Santa Rosa City Building Permits, asking if they would please request the contractor remedy the earth-ground contact (whatever that is!), since he refuses my requests. *I highly recommend looking elsewhere for your remodeling needs!* read more

After bidding the project with several contractors, I selected RPS both on price, attitude and the fact they use their own employees and don't sub-out the work. I was flabbergasted when they called to say they were ready to start work the date they had given me in their quote! They had all the material AND 20 customized windows (some of which window companies had told me couldn't be made.). Their crew was quick, polite, organized, and cleaned everything up at then end of each day. They included painting of older trim to match the new materials and their painting was perfectly done. Rick and Paul checked in and coordinated well with me, and then we just let their crew do what they do best. Watch the movie "billion dollar bully" I can't speak for the team down in the town of Lincoln ca, but I can speak for Jack Cooper who runs the Bay Area division and his team is phenomenal!!! Their quality is above and beyond when it comes to installation, labor and materials!!! Jack can have the siding colored in advance so all you'll ever need to do is touch it up as needed. His attention to detail behind the walls is what really counts. They make sure to address any issues that come up so your home is better than ever before. They have attended training courses and boot camps at the James hardie plant. This is not the standard siding you can buy anywhere else. This makes them a tremendous value when you consider not having to pay a painter thousands of dollars. Jack is on the job regularly and pays attention to the details. He will ensure it's right even when something is not necessarily his problem to fix (such as other vendors, or outside contractors). His knowledge, guidance and expertise is exemplary. I had siding done several years ago on a rental. During these past storms, I ended up with a leak inside one of the outside walls. When I was trying to locate the source of the leak, I examined the top of the patio door. There was no flashing or caulk. Not sure what the appropriate way was for the install to be done but I'm sure leaving a quarter of an inch wide open gap wasn't the way. I sent Rick an email but after reading the yelp reviews, I'm sure I won't be getting a response. I just had my house re-sided and it was just finished today. It took the company I used about 2 weeks to complete the job which included new windows and siding. Their finish work was superb. I needed the siding on my chimney replaced and it was very difficult to get estimates from other companies.... I ended up having to Spenser from RPS remodeling come out and recommended some hardy board that's already painted and it perfectly matches my house. My HOA approved it and we got started. And a great young man named Dylan arrived on time and started the tear out process. He was neat and tidy I was cleaning up after himself all the nails and debris was picked up every evening. All the ladders and tools were neatly set aside during the evenings and covered. Also while he was working he noticed a few of my roof tiles had slid off in a bad position and I was able to get my roofer out in a timely manner and get the house repaired before any water damage happened so thank you for that. It's a two-story home so I would have never found that. The communication was good as far as timeline and expectations. Along the way there's some decisions to make on trim and paint and I just basically told him yeah I trust you and just make it look good and he made his own choices and it came out very good. One of the screens to my window was accidentally torn and he took the initiative and ordered me a new screen at no charge, he came back a few days later on his lunch break and put it in for me. To me that's great customer service and just taking care of business... I appreciate that. All in all it came out fantastic. I know it is kind of a smaller job just a chimney siding but it is my house and it's important to me yeah and it came out very well the after pictures are fantastic. Dylan really did a great job. I would recommend RPS remodeling to anybody looking for any type of remodeling services, even my boss at service champions heating and air asked for his number. They were competitive on price I did have one quote slightly higher. I don't always want the cheapest quote but I don't wanna overpay either so I think they were in the middle. We are very impressed with Rick James from RPS. We lost our house in the fire in 2017. After we hired a contractor out of Eldorado Hills to rebuild our home. That contractor stole our insurance money and abandoned the job. This crook put us through hell and we were left to finish the house ourselves with little insurance money left to do so. Later we hired a concrete company to do our driveway, porches and walkways. We did not know they were new in the business of concrete, they were landscapers, they didn't cover the house with plastic which we learned is common practice and damaged our siding with concrete splatters. They said they would fix it, but didn't. That's when we called Rick James from RPS. He came out to look at the house, heard our story and wanted to help. He said he had some extra siding and generously offered to give it to us at no cost. He then said, we could just pay the guys directly to install it. We couldn't believe it, something good was happening. The very next day they were here and replaced all the bad siding, we paid the very professional laborers directly and it looks great. Now we just need to paint and landscape, along with fixing some things the original contractor did incorrectly, but we are on our way. With all the bad experiences we have had with contractors, it was so nice to meet a contractor that was kind, understand, thoughtful generous and had integrity. They tell a great story and make great promises. I wasted 4 months working with them to get a final bid on siding, windows, decks. But when it came time to get all of their promises in a real contract that cemented those promises, they bailed. Said it was too complex. Didn't want to have to deal with the permitting or engineering requirements. Didn't want to commit to verbal warranties. They chase easy deals with eager homeowners. This review could become a 5 star but I have had zero communication with Rick or anybody at RPS since I wrote them my final check, aside from me emailing them. No initiative on their part. There is left over material in my drive way that I've requested them to remove 3 times. We're in the process of having habitat for humanity come pick it up. -When they re-installed 3 out of our 5 exterior lights, they were re-wired wrong and I had to go back and wire them correctly -the project started 1 week late than scheduled (I had requested the day off from work) and I sent an email the night before to ensure we were still on track. Nope. They said they wouldn't be starting for a week! I would have been left sitting at home wondering where everybody was. Good thing I initiated the email! -after the project was done, the "team" leader guy walked around and I pointed out a few of my concerns. His response for everything was "oh just go to Home Depot and grab this and do this, etc" just because I'm handy, doesn't mean I want to finish the detail work that you didn't do. They needed to finish our slider, crawl space vent and front door trim paint. All of which he said I could do. Um, no. Luckily Rick made them come back out, even though they weren't happy about it. -Final Inspection? Yeah...I've been waiting 3 weeks for it, emailed RPS and told it would be happening. Still Nothing. So, I called the permit department at the county and scheduled it myself! They came out the next day, no thanks to RPS! -Phone line...let's not mention the phone line they cut and left hanging over my fence on top of the old gutters they never hauled away! I paid a lot of money to have this done and not have any headaches. I'm having some buyers remorse now after all the issues I'm running into... Tread cautiously. If you don't mind lack of attention to detail, then they're the right group for you. If you're looking to write some checks and get your siding redone and have no communication, they're right for you. One of the worst and most expensive decisions I have ever made. The cost was a whopping $65000 to apply siding to my 950 sq ft home and small garage. They placed all of their equipment on my grass in the back yard without discussing - killing off that are of lawn.They trampled and ripped out my plants - enough to have to reimburse me $500. My sprinkler main systems by the trampled plants were broken. They had hit the exterior of my older home so hard they cracked walls...they had to come back and repair. Upon moving more furniture, I have found more cracks. And to top it off, my walls sprung two leaks one secondary to poor caulking and the other without replacing any type of weather stripping. I had to file an insurance claim wher I had to pay the $1000 deductible and pay out of my own pocket for the repair of the outside areas where the leaks started from poor workmanship. They claim that it was not their fault even though contract states caulking is their responsibility. I have had to spend hours with workers in my home with days off work to accommodate the repairs, which are still ongoing. They will not respond to my further requests. I even talked to a lawyer. I recently talked to a local contractor who said he could've done the work so much better and more timely for $10,000., whereas I had to refinance my home. mother and my only avenue is to go to small claims court and I obviously don't have the time nor the money and I think they know that. I called no less than a dozen different contractors/handymen/stucco companies to get some cracking T-111 wood siding removed and a window removed and reinstalled correctly and was given the run around time after time with prices and quotes ranging quite a bit. Very little professionalism to say the least. At the end of my rope I looked on the James Hardie website and found RPS Remodeling with a 98% rating. Spencer came out in a timely manner and had a written quote for me to review, answered all my questions, and booked the job in a timely manner once we chose the color we wanted. Paul the installer DID a FANTASTIC JOB, took his time and the results show it. It took a day or two longer than quoted, but for a meticulous job it was worth it. He even gave me time to fill in some additional insulation where it was lacking in the walls. I highly recommend RPS for a great job at a reasonable price for a fantastic product. read more

RPS did a major remodel this summer on my 1976 mobile home.I had three different contractors put in bids. The first two were recommended by the park office and were local. One contractor did no measuring and note taking. He walked around the outside of the house and threw out a number on the spot without doing any calculations. He said he does mobile homes so much he doesn't really need to measure. That made me feel like my home was on a monotonous assembly line. The second contractor was a bit more professional, went around the house, took notes, showed me another porch in the park he had done. He was also a little vague on what type of windows he would use. Then Rick James from RPS came out and spent a lot of time, measuring every single window and space I wanted redone. One thing of note, the other two contractors told me to skip redoing the two bathroom windows because they are odd shapes and would add quite an expense. Rick assured me those windows would not be an unusual cost and I really did want a complete redo. Also important to me was that RIck informed me that since my living room windows went nearly to the floor they required a shatterproof double pane rather than a simple double pane. It would not add significant expense but was required. The other two contractors never mentioned this, which made me feel they weren't planning to add this feature. I've got grandkids, one with CP (cute and perky but also cerebral palsied--ambulatory but a wobbly little darling) and this was a big deal to me. Rick went back to his office and a few days later emailed me an extensive written estimate that was within the ball park of the other two but also included new doors, bath windows and dry wall and a lot more windows for the sun room I wanted turned into a small studio. When Rick came by for me to sign the contract and put down a deposit, he also suggested using Hardie fiber cement instead of the fiberboard I had selected. Rick did not not pressure me, just gave me the numbers and a choice. My research on Consumer Reports had recommended both types of siding although Hardie had a higher recommendation because of the heat/cold resistanc but the price seemed too expensive for my budget. His figures showed that the increase was not that significant and I appreciate Rick presenting me with the choice because the hot hot days here were much more comfortable even without turning on the air. The crew started the week promised and never put me off for other jobs the way I've seen and heard from other home owners here and in town.They came early, left late and did an amazing job. They cleaned up after themselves, every scrap of wood and trash. I also found them very congenial. One other thing: Midway through the job, I mentioned to Rick that the house looked so fabulous but that the old supports for the porch overhang which I had earlier decided not to replace, cheapened the look now that I saw how fab the siding made the house look. For a minimal cost, Rick's crew built beautiful columns that with wood and siding, that add so much charm to the front of my home. His crew also drywalled the studio and put down the flooring and new lights for that room, the front and back porch, again just a minimal increase, less than I would have had to pay a handyman to do They also laid tile on the deck near the new door which really added another attractive detail to the design. It was truly a perfect transformation and I couldn't be more satisfied. So many people walking by have commented on the beauty of my "new home". One person even thought that I had had the old house hauled away and a brand new mobile home installed. Thank you RPS. I am truly proud and content to come home to my new house every day. read more

I have to agree with Brian B. and Chris W.. I hired RPS Remodeling to install board and batten siding on my home. The foreman, Jose, was great but the two other crew members seemed to be unqualified to work on their own. The finished job looked fine but since they left I have discovered problems. They had to remove and reinstall an exterior electrical outlet and for some reason they used drywall screws to reattach the outlet to the electrical box, the outlet has now fallen out of the wall and, because they didn't use the proper screws, the box is ruined. I will need to install a new box. They removed a sliding screen door (there was no reason to remove it) and since they reinstalled it it is very hard to slide. I let the crew use the bathroom in my guest house and they clogged the drain which caused sewage to back up into a shower pan. I didn't notice the mess in the shower until they had finished the job and left. I notified Rick James of the sewage backup and he graciously offered to reimburse me for hiring a plumber to clear the drain and clean up the mess. I paid $250 to have the work done and now I can't get a response from Rick (it's been over a month and I have tried to get a response twice). I also notified him about the other problems and I have not received a response. If you hire them don't pay until you have thoroughly inspected the finished project. If you discover problems hold back some of the final payment until the problems are fixed. Final word, RPS will disappear as soon as the job is finished, your warranty will be useless and any problems will be up to you to repair at your own expense. read more

Siding work was satisfactory. However, the workers bent front door inside framing because they were forcing their misplacement of hardware. Also, owner said he would be by checking on the job that his young workers were doing and he never came. Owner also promised to come by and he never cancelled and never showed. Owner also promised to call me back and never did. It is very discouraging to a home owner to have a contractor act like he wants to meet all your expectations when trying to get you under contract and then when the job is done, he has no time for you. read more
