A separate menu for the Bengali experience

Roy's is a fantastic place to find Bengali food in Vancouver. The service is wonderful, efficient, and will keep us coming back. We visit whenever we're up here from Portland.

Naan does not seem to be made in a proper tandoori clay oven, was a bit undercooked. Food can not compare to authentic Indian food but the quality of meat is there. Lamb and chicken were both tender and portions were big. The curries were not flavorful enough in terms of spice or just general flavor. But a decent approximation for authentic Indian food here in Tsawwassen.

Review Highlights - Roys Indian Restaurant

Easy review to write: Roy's is the best South Asian restaurant in the lower mainland -- with the obvious exception of Vij's.

Clay Oven - Delta, BC (And no, not the one in Calgary!)…read more After living in the Lower Mainland for years, I can't believe it took me two decades to finally walk into Clay Oven in Delta -- a restaurant that has quietly been serving the community for 20 years. Consider me officially late to the party, but very glad I showed up. The first thing you notice is the renovation. The space feels fresh, warm, and modern -- hanging lights, greenery, and a cozy ambiance that makes you want to linger. The updated interior gives the restaurant a new‑life glow without losing its welcoming, family‑run charm. Now, the food. My husband and I ordered a lineup of classics to really test the kitchen: - Pani Puri - Crisp, tangy, refreshing. A fun, bright start to the meal. - Fish Pakora - Hot, tender, and well‑seasoned without being greasy. - Butter Chicken - My personal benchmark dish. If an Indian restaurant can't get this right, they might as well close their doors. Clay Oven passed with flying colours. Creamy, balanced, and deeply flavourful. - Naan Bread - Soft, warm, and perfect for scooping up every last drop of sauce. - Basmati Rice - Fragrant and fluffy, exactly as it should be. - Mango Lassi - Smooth, refreshing, and not overly sweet -- the ideal finish. What impressed me most was the consistency. Every dish felt intentional, well‑executed, and rooted in the kind of confidence that only comes from a kitchen that's been doing this for 20 years. Clay Oven isn't flashy, and it doesn't need to be. It's the kind of place you return to because the food is comforting, the service is warm, and the experience feels genuine. I'm just annoyed at myself for not discovering it sooner. Verdict: A Delta staple that deserves more attention -- and now that I've found it, I'll be back regularly.

All the curries came with rice, which can be supplemented with roti or naan. As vegetarians, we tried Paneer Makhani, Kofta, Vegetable Korma, and Dal Maharani. Paneer Makhani was the only okayish dish among all the vegetarian options we tried. The Kofta was very disappointing. The koftas were extremely hard and seemed like they weren't thawed properly. Paneer dish & Kofta tasted exactly the same. Sorry to say, but the Vegetable Korma was the worst. None of us could eat it because of the bad aftertaste. The Dal Maharani wasn't that great either. The non-vegetarian curries were decent, according to my friends. As a vegetarian, I will surely never go back again. Even though they kept mentioning that they have been in the market for 25 years, the reviews don't seem to add up for a place that has been around for that long. The service was good, but unfortunately, the food disappointed us a lot. Won't be going back for sure.

I was not expecting this restaurant to be as big as it is. The space here is truly massive, and…read morewhile it was mostly empty when we came at around 2:30 - I can picture the hubbub of activity that would be present during peak dinner hours. This does seem to be a highly recommended place to eat Indian food in Surrey. I had the Non-Veg Thali, which isn't on the menu, but the waitress helpfully let us know about. It's very customizable - and I went with garlic naan, rice, two tandoori chicken pieces, lamb vindaloo, and shahi paneer - all in a single plate! Pretty much everything was excellent. I'm not even sure where to start. The garlic naan was fantastic. Soft, buttery, with just a slight hint of garlic and lightly charred on the outside. I could honestly eat this by itself and be satisfied. Garlic naan is a staple of what I order whenever eating Indian food, and this might be the best one I've had. The shahi paneer was also great; tomato-forward, creamy, and the paneer was super soft. The lamb vindaloo was a real standout. It was immensely flavorful - not lacking for spice at all - but you don't just taste capsaicin - you taste all the cumin, cardamom, and garam mixed in with the curry. But the lamb itself is the best part of the curry; it's so tender and juicy. The absolute peak, though, was the tandoori chicken. These were two large dark meat pieces, which were cooked to absolute perfection - retaining so much juice and fat. The skin was a perfect deep orange, seasoned with a ton more spices. It's like eating fried chicken but without the breading, but this was arguably even better. The masala fries were the only thing kind of a miss - as they lacked any masala. The price of the thali was only 23 CAD. That's a pretty insane deal for how much food you get - I was unable to finish everything on my plate despite being very hungry. Honestly two people could share this and be satisfied. When you consider how much sharing and new orders for bread, rice, and curries goes on at your typical Indian restaurant, this is crazy good value. Overall, I would classify this as the best Indian food I've had outside of Asia. 9.5/10
