Lisa offered same day appointment for me beFore closing the shop. She was nice to me right from the staRt. Heavy Vietnamese accent but she can surely get by with her English. She did a great job- do not expect spa style pedicure , you basically get what you pay for on this Groupon. It's a quick clean nails light scrub light massage under 15-20 min pedicure. I liked it and plus for thaT price for pedicure and gel manicure I thinks it's decent. Hole in the wall place. Lisa is Sandys sister and she guided me through the nail polish choosing process. It's only faR from where I live but otherwise I would tOtaLly go back again. read more

Groupon deal -Cuts toe to skin line -Doesn't take time to shape nails just cuts fast and pokes you several times -Non communicative -Hung up on a customer while working on us -Customer came into the shop and she proceeded to not pay attention nor barely answer any questions she had. -Files skin w toes = pain n burn -Jabs top nail part deep and fast w no care w tool -Literally little to no toenail left -Final clean ups getting the small parts 50/50 pokes you with tool -Big ass birth control sign to look at when getting nails done. -Files bottom of feet within 10 seconds or less (no time) -The massage you get last for 10 seconds each leg -Took about 10 mins - only good part was that she had music store, a fan on, and you get a lotion rub at the end which was the only good part of the whole process All of this is coming from a guy so be careful ladies. Sandy is amazing! Seriously! Some of these reviews are based solely off a phone conversation and not even her quality of work.. which I think is ridiculous. Sandy is seriously such a sweetheart she just has a even toned voice which can sound abrasive on the phone but she really is so accommodating! Her customer service is honestly top notch! She stands behind her work 100% and will fix anything that you don't like! I won't go anywhere else in San Diego for my nails! read more

I've been here several times and I honestly this is the best place to get a gel manicure and pedicure that I've found, and I get my nails done semi-regularly. The price can't be beat, and all my manicures have lasted 3 weeks +. It's a small shop, only two women work there, and because they do such a good job, they book up fast so make sure to call in advance to make an appointment. The interior of the shop is not upscale by any means but they do a great job and that's all that really matters to me. I did get offered a mimosa this time too which was very appreciated and made the experience extra relaxing. This is the only place I'll go for a gel manicure. read more

Updated to 5 stars because my gel nails consistently last 2 weeks every time. I only live in SD half the year, and it's not easy having to go to other nail places when I'm gone! She guarantees gel to last 2 weeks, and it hasn't been an issue for me at all! They last a long time! read more

I had a gel manicure and relaxing pedicure with Sandy today and really enjoyed it. This is a very straight forward salon with unbeatable prices. There's off-street parking, which is nice in PB. It's by appointment (mostly). And I like to support women owned businesses and UCSD alum! read more

I tried royalty nails because I wanted a gel mani and saw their Groupon. My criteria for all locations is that the tools are new or clean and properly sterilized, the manicurist is friendly and we are able to make pleasant conversation, competitive pricing and that the quality of the mani is superb. Royalty Nails meets all of these criteria! Lisa did my french gel mani and she did a wonderful job. Such attention to detail and she took her time to do it right! I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever and I already have an appointment to go back. Sandy is the owner and she seems like a kind but strong woman. I highly recommend all of San Diego to come here and support this female owned, family run store. Below are my pics from day 1 and 5 weeks later! read more

I am by far one of the MOST pickiest person especially when it comes to nails, which could be the reason I had the same manicurist for over 15 years. I relocated and was forced to find someone new; as amazing, detailed, clean, and picky as my previous manicurist. After Numerous failed attempts, in numerous parts of Cali., I had given up my search and came to terms that no one was going to be as good as my old manicurist on her worse day. (She was booked months and months in advance, and although you had an appointment, you would still wait.) I decided to visit San Diego for a gig I was working, rushed, last minute, I yelped nail bar within the area and came across with Royalty Nails. Sandy was AMAZING!!! She was very helpful, kind, and sweet. She managed to squeeze me in on busy NYE. Ever since then I've been getting my nails done by her. Her gel polish is amazing; she has a vast selection of colors. Her staff is very friendly, and the shop is always clean. I've been getting my nails done by Sandy at Royalty Nails for a year now. I drive down from Santa Barbara every other weekend JUST to get my nails done by her. I can go on vacation, come back a month later and my nails are still intact. I can't emphasize enough how amazing her work is, and she is overall! She truly does a phenomenal job. Thank you Sandy, my hands, feet, and I, love you!!!! Lol read more

Didn't even make it in to this place because of how rude I was treated on the phone. Called to make an appointment, was asked when I wanted to come in and said today if possible. She told me she doesn't know if she has any appointments to which I asked her to check and see. She responded that she was driving and was busy so she couldn't look and to call back later... no thanks. The first impression your customers have of you is over the phone, make it count. read more

Really not impressed The pedicure massage chairs were super old, ripped up and creeking the whole time they were on. Their were fast food cups and snacks laying around. I realize it's a small business but the interior needs some serious love. I love Sandy at Royalty Nails!!! She is always willing to get me in when I need it and is flexible if I have to change my appointment. I fell in love with Royalty Nails after buying a Groupon many many years ago. I will not go anywhere else now! Not only is Sandy great, but the gel manicure I get when I go to her stays on longer than any other salon! It's like magic! I don't know what she puts in her polish, but it is working. ;) She always does an absolute perfect job also. AND she reminds me every time when she's done that if there's ever any chipping (there never has been) to come back and she will fix it. I'll say it again, I won't go anywhere else for gel manicures. This place can't be beat! read more

DO NOT COME HERE! This nail salon is very, very dirty, small and disgusting. None of their tools are cleaned properly and the place is poorly lit and cluttered. No joke this happened to me... The rude woman was talking on the telephone to someone the entire time while doing my nails. Mid way through applying my acrylic nails got up to use the bathroom. She went to the bathroom with the door open and then NEVER WASHED HER HANDS and came back to finish applying the acrylic. Horrific, the place was cheap but needless to say could lead to diseases. read more

Owner is the most unfriendly person I've ever met. No customer service skills answering phone. "Deluxe" pedicure was nothing but sugar scrub for 15 seconds and less then 5 scrubbing my heals and dead skin which is why I bought deluxe. I even mentioned that was no time at all spent on that and I need it and she just smiled and ignored me and kept going. The place is disgusting and dirty and completely unprofessional. I got a gel manicure as well and they are fat in some places. Again I pointed it out and she did NOTHING TO FIX IT. Absolutely the worst nail salon I've ever been too. read more

Leaving the most honest review here. I've been going to royalty nails for quite a while. If you are looking for a fancy nail salon, royalty nails is not for you. They are just a small and busy nail salon with two nailists. BUT they do the BEST JOB and their PRICE is UNBEATABLE!!! Their gel is not thick but also last for a long time! Avoid this place: For starters I called their number 4 times during their posted business hours (confirmed on their voicemail greeting) until I FINALLY reached someone by phone. The seat was a massage chair but both arm rests and side stand were disgustingly dirty. Looked like they had old sticky gunk on them. The final straw was they charged me extra money for a buff and shine AFTER the service instead of prior.. Shady practice. I'm a guy, no nail polish (included) needed, just buff the nails and make them look good like anywhere else I have been.. Short version: answer your phone during business hours, clean & sanitize your equipment, inform your customers of upcharges PRIOR to service. Simple. read more

This is actually my second time coming to Royalty Nails since discovering their $36 gel mani/reg pedi deal on groupon. I was really satisfied with my last visit and decided to give this place another try - and I'm absolutely hooked. Sandy is the owner of the place and she's just super awesome to work with. She honored the groupon deal price and scheduled a 1:30pm appointment. I did have to wait a little as she was catering to a group of other girls, but as a result she felt bad and didn't charge me extra for the designs on my nails. Sandy has had over 20 years of experience doing nails, and it clearly shows through how meticulous she is while working on your nails. What I really appreciated was how attentive she was to what I was looking for AND still checking up on walk-in's/following up on other appointments when she felt like she was going to run late. You can tell she really cares about her line of work. The place itself isn't the most upscale...but honestly who cares. The workstations are kept clean and they have a fairly large selection of colors - I'm not worrying about the ambiance. I am definitely going to become a regular at Royalty! read more

Slacking in service, big time. Very unfriendly as I walked in and throughout the entire service. Place was not well kept either. I was given a groupon for a deluxe pedicure and gel manicure for my birthday. I scheduled my appointment and told them I didn't care for color or gel and asked if maybe I could get an extra long massage instead... they were making more money for less work, so what's a few extra minutes on the massage. I got 1 min each side on my feet and 45 seconds per arm. I had cold water, a dry towel to rub the lotion off, and I had to ask for the foot scrub. Nothing about this service was good or deluxe. I pretty much paid $40 to get my nails clipped and filed. HUGE WASTE. I can recommend plenty of other spots that still take pride in their work and make the experience nice and worth the money. Never returning to this place!! read more

I bought a deal for a gel manicure - my first ever - and was nervous. I picked royalty nails due to the reviews on yelp and I must say I wasn't disappointed! Details: Sandy did my nails, she's the owner and Lee's (the previous owner) niece. She is so humble and down to earth, and above all does a darn good set of nails! Okay, not sure where these 5 stars are coming from... are we talking about the same salon here??! I bought a groupon for a gel mani, when i called the lady was soo rude over the phone. I walked in and I honestly have no idea why I decided to stay, I've never been in such a dirty nail salon. There was stuff all over the place, nail polish all over everything, oh and when I sat down there was a dog bowl for me to soak my hands in!!! It took her 90 minutes to complete my mani because she kept getting up to do things for her daughter that was there (who had toys all over the floor of the shop) and was talking on the phone. I was honestly so taken back. HOWEVER I will say she did an amazing manicure, it's three weeks and still no chips. If only she could keep her place up :-/ read more

I have nothing but positive things o say about Royalty Nails! They really TAKE THEIR TIME with you and do a phenomenal job every time! I never really got my nails done consistently until I found Sandy and Royalty Nails. This is by far the best value in San Diego. The quality of work I receive each and every time I go is much higher than anywhere else I've been. I always get a gel manicure and a pedicure. My gel manicure usually lasts about 3-4 weeks. The most recent one I got looks pristine and it's been over 4 weeks. I always leave with perfect looking nails! Sandy also has great hours and is very flexible with scheduling, which is great for me since I work all day. Sandy does have a Groupon available as well, but I would recommend just calling her when you make the appointment and mention the Groupon and she will honor it without you purchasing through Groupon. I basically only do yelp reviews if I have a terrible experience, so here goes. I'll make it short but to echo what others have said, the customer service is about a 2/10. The professionalism is about 3/10. However, the owner who did my nails was nice enough once we started chatting so I wasn't going to write a review. HOWEVER, I woke up at 4 am with exquisite pain on my big toe bc I got a bacterial infection. I'm sitting in the ED waiting for antibiotics and I can hardly walk on my foot. I've never had this happen before and I'm so upset. Seriously don't go here. read more

Wow... where to even begin. Another Groupon disaster. It started with scheduling the service. I called on a Satruday before 6:30pm and was told that she cannot schedule me because it's after hours. I check afterward and they don't close until 7pm. I get a call back about an hour later, she's trying to book us. She had no availability for Sunday that's for two people together but that she can do back to back. I wanted to go with my boyfriend so I ask about Monday. She said she can accommodate us at 5:45pm. Later, I get a text asking us for our groupon codes. A bit shady, but I went ahead and did it. After I gave her the codes, it took a day and several texts and missed calls before she confirmed our appointment. We get there at 5:40pm on Monday. The store is dingy and dirty. One of the two staff is already working on a customer, so my boyfriend and I sat and waited. I picked out my colors, a deep red and black. We were seated by the other staff after about 5 minutes for the pedicures. She does my boyfriend's feet first while the other staff continues to do the other customer's nails. Then another customer walked in who needed her nails fixed and we agreed to let her go ahead of us as I got the manicure/deluxe pedicure package so if she waited for us, it'd be a while. I ended up soaking in the tepid-turned-cold water for half an hour before anyone touched me. My 5 minute massage lasted 3 minutes and she spent a good portion of that gesturing as she talked with the other staff instead of actually giving me any sort of massage. Finally the pedicure wrapped up and I move over to the table for the manicure. At this point, the staff who was working on the other customer decided to get up and leave the store entirely. She was the only one of the two who spoke any English. She proceeds to take out her books/ledgers and started doing math while I sat across the table from her, absolutely stunned. It was then 6:45pm, an hour after we got there and I've only gotten a pedicure. She continues to flip through the pages and playing on her phone as I sat there. Eventually she did do my nails only to stop half way while cutting my cuticles, take out the books AGAIN, and did some more math. What. The. Ever. Living. Fuck. After all of that, we finally walked out the store at 7:35pm, almost two hours after we arrived, with unsatisfactory pedicures and manicure. Pictures attached. The thumbs are uneven, the edges of my nails aren't smooth, and the french tips are squiggly. Never have I been so underwhelmed in a nail salon before. Definitely don't go, Groupon or not. read more

Hands down the worst service I've ever received. I scheduled an appointment on the phone for 12:00, arrived 5 minutes before my appointment, and they realized they had double booked. I received no apology and was asked if I could come back in 30 minutes because they had made a mistake. I agreed to come back in 30, and when I came back I was barely acknowledged as they told me to take a seat on their dirty couch. I proceeded to sit for 15 minutes until I realized they were still nowhere near ready for me, and so I left. There was zero communication throughout this experience, no apology, and no accommodation. I will be requesting a refund from Groupon as this was a huge waste of time and money. All that aside, the place itself is dirty and unhygienic. Service was so unacceptable and rude, it's honestly hard to understand why they are even in this field of work. read more

First off, I'm very picky with my nails and I'm currently looking for a new lady because my last one moved away. This was my first & only visit to this location. I called Sunday to schedule a future appointment with Sandy (since everyone raves about her skills) and I got to speak to Sandy herself which schedules me for Wednesday at 6pm. Monday I receive a text from Sandy asking if the appointment can be changed to 6:15, which I agreed to. Tuesday I receive another text from Sandy saying she has a family emergency and won't be available for me, she asked if I'm ok to have Lisa (her sister) do my nails, I say yes. I value and respect family relationships so I accept her unanticipated emergency. Finally, Wednesday comes around and I get to the nail shop. I walk in and I'm greeted by two ladies. I tell them I had an appointment at 6:15 with Sandy but she changed it to Lisa. The lady says "I'm Sandy!" So immediately in my head I think "Cool Sandy's here so she'll be doing my nails!" So Sandy starts talking about her family emergency and that she's had a crazy schedule. And she clarifies that the other lady will be doing my gel manicure. I was bummed but ok with it because Sandy is talking about her family emergency. This made me assume Sandy needed to leave early to attend her family emergency and that's why I ended up with this other lady (not sure if she was Lisa or not). At about 6:30 Sandy tells me that the other lady is ready for me, so I sit at her station. She starts working on me but I'm honestly not liking her techniques. But whatever, I'm already there getting my nails done! While this is happening I was expecting Sandy to leave to this important family emergency she has going on. About 5 minutes later another customer walks in, Sandy greets her, tells her to take a seat & that she'll be with her in a minute!... Are you kidding me? This was the emergency!?!? Sandy could have just told me she double booked or something! This was a complete turn off for me. There are a lot more nail shops ready to accept new customers. If I call to make an appointment with a specific person that's what I'm expecting it to be. I don't like dishonesty! BAD SERVICE!!! read more

A friend of mine referred me to Royalty Nails because I always admired her long cat claw nails. I've been going to Sandi for 8 months now and I never leave disappointed. Her prices are really affordable and her work is exceptional. I love glitter and I love cool colors or designs. She's always up to challenge I give her with a new design. She always tries her best to replicate it. I get gel every time and it always holds up through the hard labor I do. I got all my friends hooked on her and I always get complements on the color and shape of my nails. I have to drive from coronado, so I wouldn't be going so far out of my way if it wasn't worth it. I was very disappointed right from the start. I bought the Groupon then called to schedule my appointment. The person that answered the phone was rude. Scheduling was difficult and I almost decided to give up the cost of the service and just not schedule. I did schedule for days later when I could get in. My appointment was with the woman who had answered the phone. She had me waiting over a half hour for my scheduled appointment! She tried to explain why she was rude; however, I didn't see why she had to take it out on me! We had never met! During my manicure she made countless personal phone calls! I could tell you about her boyfriend and car troubles, but no need! My manicure looks ok but it was not a relaxing experience and the hand massage didn't really exist. Now on to my pedicure where I had a different woman. She said nothing, just hit my leg when she wanted me to switch feet. Again, the service was mediocre and the massage pretty non-existent. To too it off, when she dried my feet before polish, she sneezed all over my feet! Bodily functions happen, but maybe apologize???? Then to the polish...she grabbed the wrong bottle so my to be matching fingers and toes look like I tried really hard but failed! So very disappointed in this service! read more
