Mai's Nails is such a calm and welcoming spot. The owners are always so friendly and easy to chat with, which makes every visit feel really comfortable. It is never too busy, so I can usually get in and out without a long wait. They keep the place spotless and I really appreciate that they open a brand new nail kit every time. It shows how seriously they take cleanliness. The team is knowledgeable, does quality work, and the customer service is consistently great. I had a pretty terrible experience at this nail salon. I'm giving 2 stars for Teven, who was very sweet and kind. I came in to get my gel removed and called ahead to ask how much it would cost. Lynn said it would be $8. When I arrived at the nail salon, I was greeted right away by Lynn, who asked what I needed done. I responded that I had called about the nail removal. She then proceeded to inspect my nails and said that, since it looked like a thick gel, she would charge me $15, which I was totally fine with. She then began working on my nails and talking in her language with her coworker. She was clearly complaining about the nails and said that the gel was very strong and not like the regular gel they handle at the salon. I sat quietly, understanding that it would be a bit of a tedious task to remove. She continued talking and complaining in her language, which was uncomfortable, unnecessary, and unprofessional. If you didn't want to do the job, just say something. She then disappeared to the back of the salon to grab a tray with acetone so that I could soak my hands. After some time, she tried again but still wasn't able to remove the gel, so the process of soaking and removing continued. I understand that it was difficult to remove my nails, and maybe she wasn't talking about me audibly the entire time, but it certainly felt that way. I will never be back. The only person who was sweet and caring was Teven. He was so professional and ended up getting the job done since Lynn was too busy complaining about life. read more

Staff was friendly, but I'm disappointed and frustrated with my overall experience. I made an appointment at 2pm, but didn't get seated until 2:20. I picked out a sparkly brown gel, but the polish was too sheer, so he decided to put a different color underneath. That would've been totally fine with me if he picked a color that matched the one I picked (another shade of brown, nude, etc) but for some reason he chose a bright magenta. I decided to trust him in his decision because I thought he knew better than me, but my mistake. In the end, I had this weird ugly berry color on my nails, even after 3 coats of the brown sparkle. Just not even remotely close to what I asked for. What's more frustrating is that I had just gotten a similar color a few weeks before, and wanted a nice change for autumn time. Oh well. read more

Came in with a friend as walk-ins on a Friday, around 12:30pm. I got a gel pedicure and my friend got a dip manicure. Service was great - the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Lynn, who said it would just be a few minutes of a wait. She offered for us to select our colors at this time (they have a wide color selection!) The staff is very kind - they check in with you throughout the service to make sure you're getting what you want. They were very detailed in their work. It was an obviously very popular/busy spot because many people came in and Lynn was trying to be super accommodating, either giving them an exact time to come in later, or helped too make appointments for later in the week. Also great pricing. The dip manicure was about $42. I've almost never seen any places that do dip manicures for less than $55! My gel pedicure was $43. read more

I have only done pedicures at this salon and they do a great job every time I come compared to other San Diego nail salons. This is an updated review- while I like the way Tina does my nails. They really need to get organized with their appointment system. I called before they opened to try to get in right away. I grabbed all my stuff and told her I'd be there in 20 mins, she said ok but when I get there she's just starting someone else's pedicure. Stopped in for a quick mani pedi in between waiting for my mom to be finished with a surgery at sharp hospital. The staff was great. They got me right in and did a beautiful gel manicure. I wanted my polish removed on my toes to take a break and I wish I wasn't in such a hurry cause she was giving great massage and being very attentive. I would definitely recommend! I'll be honest - the idea of getting a pedicure scares me. It shouldn't, that's weird - but it does. Maybe I'm shy. Maybe I'm weirdly self-conscious about my feet. I'm not sure, but while I love the idea of them, the actual practice makes me nervous. There have been times when I have overcome my fears and actually gotten a pedicure or a foot massage, and each time my feet feel tickled, reflexively jerking backward slightly every few seconds. Fortunately I've never kicked or injured anyone, and the reaction has always been laughter on the part of the person doing the pedicure. But anywhoo, onto Mai's Nails. At the risk of oversharing, it had been awhile since my last pedicure and I had a toenail that was starting to become ingrown - and it HURT! Everyone I spoke to about this told me a pedicure was the answer. Almost as if it was a no-brainer. I put it off for months, but eventually I felt a surge of bravery and did a Yelp search for nearby places, and Mai's Nails had good reviews, so I decided to go for it. I called and made my appointment, and the lady on the phone was quite nice. So appointment time rolled around and I arrived at the store. I'll admit, the first thing I noticed was the strong smell of what I think was nail polish remover. It was so dizzyingly strong that I felt a little worried at first. But, eventually the smell did go away and it was my turn to get a pedicure. I was given a laminated card with all the different packages available - I chose the 2nd least expensive (which was $40 or so and boasted a sugar scrub). At first I wasn't sure what to do, and just soaked my feet for a bit. I watched other people getting their pedicures, and having chats with the employees. Well, my employee came along and got started, but didn't really speak to me. She did notice that my feet were sensitive it seems, but she didn't really try to allay my fears (and I suppose it wasn't her responsibility to do so) - and just went to work. There were times when it hurt, or tickled, and I tried to make my feelings known through body language, but I either failed or it was ignored. There was a time I thought maybe they didn't realize which package I ordered, because it said that they would fix callus as well as part of the pedicure, but I couldn't tell if they had worked on mine. Regardless, I said nothing. The most important thing though, was that I could not argue with the end product. My feet felt nice, and the foot-related problems I went in for had been solved. Turns out they HAD noticed the callus, but were so subtle in their work that I didn't even realize they had fixed it. And of course, they also fixed my toenail. So while there were a couple small things to be desired in regard to atmosphere / customer service, the actual procedure and results were top notch, so I gave this establishment 4 stars and definitely recommend it! read more

This was my first time here & I had such a wonderful experience. I got an eyebrow wax & a fill with regular paint. The staff was extremely accommodating, friendly, & I was in & out within an hour! Update on eyebrow wax service: Not happy at all with my brows. I normally come here & was advised to go to a new lady versus the owner..I grow my brows for 6-8 weeks at a time. Was told to "put makeup on, draw on your eyebrows" like I had an option..I grow my brows out so I do NOT have to draw them in. After growing them out for 4 years altogether, spending $600+ on microblading to help grow them out...I'm extremely disappointed. My brows will not grow back in the same & will probably take twice as long to get the tails of my brows back...I was offered a free eyebrow wax versus being refunded back or a discount on another service since I had returned back to get my nails done in the evening. As much as I love coming here, after this experience I will not be returning . Nails: 5/5. If you get a wax service I highly suggest the owner as she is extremely nice & waxes eyebrows extremely well. read more

I just wanted to say I absolutely enjoyed this place. I give it 5 s because of the vibe, work done and how satisfied I was. Honestly for all they do deserve a nice tip. If someone does a wonderful job I tend to tip decently. I know we live in tough economy but PLEASE BE GENEROUS WITH YOUR TIP. I'm visiting from L. A County and I searched this place. I've never had a hot rock extended massage where they actually massage you. But I felt so relaxed on Thursday for a pedicure that I came back the next day for a mani but ended up getting a full set with dip powder. My nails feel light and pretty. I will say I was skeptical because it doesn't look fancy and there were a couple bugs buzzing around but honestly my massage felt so great and it's either quiet or Lynn talks to you. She honestly made me feel welcomed. You honestly don't get that vibe where employees talk about you. And to be honest I prefers that the doors WERE open because I can't stand the smell of chemicals. I've recently moved to San Diego and needed to find a new nail salon to unwind. The first thing that really impressed me is how responsive they are around scheduling. It's super easy to get an appointment, you can call, text, or just stop by! They typically have appointments available right then or within 24 hrs, which is awesome compared to other nail salons. Not only does Lynn's shop provide a welcoming and relaxing environment, but they do an awesome job. What wowed me the most recently is how great these came out with SUCH light colors! We were constantly reviewing the depth of color and adding more coats to achieve the desired outcome. There's 3 dip color coats on my nails, and at least 8-10 gel coats on my toes. Lynn and Annie did an insane job!! This is my third full set of dip powder on natural nails and gel set on my toes, as I wanted to leave a well-rounded review about the longevity of color. As a diehard OPI fan, I will admit that I was a bit skeptical at first of the iGel line, but I was very happy to be proven wrong! Regarding overall duration, my toe polish has remained 100% perfect every time until I go back for a fresh set (every 3-4 weeks). Because my hands are being washed frequently due to household chores + COVID, I find my nails are ready for a fresh set in about 3 weeks due to growth and wear/tear. What's nice is that the dip powder has allowed me to keep my natural nails long and make them stronger. I had the color of a thumb nail crack once between appointments, which I contacted the shop and they were happy to fix for me free of charge. Note - If you are looking for a very specific design, be sure to show them a picture upfront and consult with them on what materials (dip, gel, standard polish, natural vs. acrylic) is needed in order to achieve your desired look. Different materials = different process = slightly different price than you may have been expecting. If you're trying to stay in a particular price point for your appointment, feel free to voice that upfront and they can identify the services that fall in that range. My experience at Mai's Nails was horrible and ended in literal tears!!! . I have not got my nails done in over 2 1/2 years because my job does not allow it. I am going on a two week vacation and thought that it would be fun to pamper myself and get a cute set of nails, I showed her my inspiration picture, She said that she could not do lifted/3d acrylic but that she could do the flower/design so I said that's totally fine. Let's do it, I asked for a different shape than the picture you see in the photos the photos. I felt that the French tip was too thick and it was not crisp. It was more cloudy and uneven than I wanted. Then we got to the flower and she couldn't do the flower that I had wanted so I said that we could just leave it without the flower, even though I really wanted it and was the whole point of the design she said she didn't have the right brushes for it even though she said that she could do it at the beginning of the service. she was on hold with somebody when she started the service and put it on speakerphone as soon as they answered she told me to hold on and walked outside for about five minutes came back in still on the phone and was doing that throughout my whole service. I understand being a business owner, but I'm paying for a service and I would like to have attention put on my set I am paying for , I went back the next day because I was not happy with the set that I had received and she proceeded to tell me she was going to charge me AGAIN so I said I would not like to be charged. She said that this is my fault for picking that color instead of white because that's how it's always gonna look with color. I said well you did not tell me that at the beginning of the service she said well it's still your fault for not knowing so I said can I have them removed and be refunded, and she proceeded to yell at me in front of everyone in the salon and tell me that I cannot get them removed or a refund, She said not to blame her for what I chose so I walked out. Just came here for a pedicure after work today and I was not disappointed. The two ladies inside were so nice and greeted me right away. I did not feel like I was pressured to get my nails done like other places when I only want to get a pedicure. I love that about this place.
