We stopped here the first night we got to Amsterdam because it was so close to our hotel. Food was good!! I got the fettuccini pasta and my friend got a pizza both were very yummy and big! Keep this in mind because usually European portions are small so we couldn't even finish both of our dishes! The only thing about this place is the service is slow. Caesar salad i got was yummy but the tiramisu was even better! Will give the tiramisu a 4/5! However, service was a bit slow and we got sat inside as a group of 5 when they could of easily sat us outside where we could enjoy Amsterdam...so we sat inside where it was empty. On a short visit in Amsterdam. Had the blueberry pancakes, it was delicious, yet the portion was quite small for the price. The staff was unfocused: we didn't receive our drinks until way after the food arrived, we didn't get cutlery, we had to ask for it, and they got my friend's order wrong. The mint tea was basically water with a bush in it. It was pretty hilarious. The food is pretty good, but the service harmed the experience. read more

Casual stop in the heart of the city. Staff friendly and helpful. I believe the owner or manager assisted us and he was fabulous-so welcoming and warm! Pizza was delicious and I had the open faced avocado BLT. The BLT tasted good but extremely messy and difficult to eat..would pass on that. Beers cold and coffees are delightful. Would return. Had breakfast every morning here on our stay in Amsterdam since we were booked at the Swissotel. The food was very good and reasonably priced for the area. The breakfast buffet had a plethora of offerings to choose from, including eggs, pancakes, bangers and bacon. Our hotel in Amsterdam was right next-door and it is somewhat part of the hotel. The style and the quality of the Italian food served here is exceptional. Cute little bakery cafe in heart of Amsterdam. It smells delicious when you walk in and a tempting array of baked goodies are displayed to help you work up an appetite. Alas there are staff walking around - but to say they work here would be a gross overstatement. You just might need to find another cafe if you would actually like to order something. After 20 minutes I did get a coffee with only two reminders, my table was wiped down after only one reminder and I think my food order was used to roll a joint by the slothful waiter whose only apparent skill was to avoid any possible eye contact with anyone. Super friendly people. We had coffee every morning while staying at the SwissOtel. Lovely bake goods also.

We weren't planning to stop here, but ended up having a few drinks since we really needed to use the toilet. The staff was fantastic and even though the place is not exactly cheap, the location is amazing and staff is just wonderfully attentive and lovely! We ended up going back another night for more drinks and instead of finding another place to have dinner in, we decided to order pizzas here. Possibly the best pizza I've ever had. We're vegetarian, and even though there was only two real options, it was plenty and both pizzas (Quattro formaggio and one with goats cheese, sweet potato and olives) were incredible. Stopped in for lunch on Sunday afternoon. We both had the Pomodori Soup and it was delicious. The bread was outstanding! Soft center, slightly crunchy outside and a light sugar frost on it. The ambiance was very nice and the open kitchen view lets you know that everything is made fresh. Prices were reasonable and, with a ginger ale and cappuccino, we got out for less than €25. Well I'm 0 for 2 in dam square area. Place had good reviews and was close by. Bartender was on his game and drinks were prompt and good. Pizza was another matter... ordered one truffle and a marguerite pizza. To be honest, I thought they sent a plain cheese pizza by accident. Not a single tomato and literally 2 leaves of basil on the center. The truffle pizza had some arrugla on it, a couple of olives, and that was it. Can't believe any mediocre pizza parlor in america would blow this away! Probably best to just get a slice from new york pizza down the block at 1/4 the price. read more

I think the lesson is, don't be a foreigner on a week day. The food was excellent, but the service was very bad - like they practiced it. Dismissive, slow, rude. I suspect they cater better to foreign (non-Dutch-speaking) guests on the weekends, but I can't recommend it on a week day. read more

Don't know if it was because we are Americans or because we looked out of place, but we were totally ignored and did not get greeted or seated despite waiting 15 minutes. It was not a busy day and there were more than enough seats to accommodate my party so I don't know what the issue was.
