    Steamed vegetable with tofu.

I don't care for Chinese food, so I can't comment on the authenticity or lack thereof of Royal Wok, but my choice of eating here and requisite review come thanks to a desperate need for a quick Christmas day lunch. Service wasn't at all friendly, however it was efficient. We hardly waited for our entrees to arrive, and were ushered out just as soon as we finished our plates. Call it efficiency at turning tables, or whatever you want. I didn't bother looking through the menu, as I am averse to all things in Chinese cuisine that are sweet/sticky/saucy/salty, etc., and unfortunately (or fortunately) Royal Wok is one of "those" Chinese locations. I went straight for the "For Your Good Health" section of the menu, where the dishes are purportedly prepared and served without salt, sugar, or corn starch "for a healthy, delicious meal." So from $7.95 to $10.95 you can choose from various proteins, which are paired with plentiful steamed veggies, and of course a pot of sticky white rice on the side. I chose the steamed tofu and hubby chose the chicken. True to the menu, there was neither salt nor sugar nor day-glo bright sauces, just a plate of veggies and our protein of choice. With some soy sauce and a dash of pepper, they actually weren't half-bad, hence the 3-star rating for a cuisine I'm still trying to find a liking for! Hubby also ordered a side of egg rolls (2), and could only eat one, so they probably weren't very good, and he is a fan of these sorts of Chinese joints. Food was obviously on the cheap, and it was quick, and it was Christmas.

We were greeted with a smile and offered seating as soon as we stepped through the door. Our orders were taken in a timely manner by our friendly server. I ordered sweet and sour chicken, egg drop soup and fried rice which is a $ 1.00 upgrade from white rice. My friend ordered sesame chicken, hot and sour soup and white rice. My sweet and sour chicken was delicious, generous portions, lightly breaded, flavorful with thick sweet and sour sauce. The fried rice was fluffy and very possibly the among the best fried rice I remember. My friend also liked the sesame chicken which I sampled and can verify that it is very good. The service was efficient and friendly with just the right amount of interaction. The place is clean, comfortable and laid out allowing for maximum seating while not feeling crowded. The prices are fair for today's inflated dining environment. The food was very good and the portions were generous. I will no doubt be back sometime in the future to enjoy the food at Sun Cafe.

The staff are incredibly friendly, and you can tell it's a family-owned and operated spot. It's simple and unpretentious--no pretenses, just good food. The flavors are bold and comforting. I ordered two dishes: braised beef brisket and beef stew with wontons. The braised beef was the standout for me--sweet and savory in perfect balance, with meat that melted in your mouth. The beef stew with wontons was delicious as well; the beef was tender, and the broth was clean, rich, and refreshing--great comfort food for a cold Colorado day, or any day. My wife tried the chicken pho. The broth was smooth and revitalizing, and the chicken meat seemed freshly hand-pulled. She enjoyed it immensely. If you're looking for solid, flavorful food in a welcoming, no-frills setting, this place is hard to beat.
