Today 02/05/2026, we went to this restaurant and I was really excited to try it. When we walked in, there were several waitresses standing at the entrance, but none of them greeted us. The waitress who took us to our table did so with a very bad attitude. She placed the menus on a table located in the middle of the restaurant. Since I was with my one-year-old baby, I thought it would be better to sit at a table at the end of the restaurant so we wouldn't inconvenience people walking by or trying to leave. I politely and respectfully asked if we could move to the empty table at the end. She did not respond to me. Instead, she threw the menus on the table, turned around, and walked away while complaining to other waitresses and giving uncomfortable looks. Of course, I stood up with my family and went to speak to another waitress. I apologized and told her we were going to leave because the situation felt very uncomfortable. I explained why I had asked for the other table, and she responded, "Do you want the table or not?" As someone who works in customer service, I believe employees should be very careful about how they speak and behave in front of customers. My experience at this place today was horrible. read more

My friends and I decided to come here for my birthday dinner. We had probably some of the worst service I've ever experienced while dining. I decided to rate this place two stars over one purely because the food was good. Our waitress was very rude to us and refused to bring us dessert after we waited almost an hour for her to come back. It was so rude when the restaurant was not overly busy. Our waitress seemed almost like she hated us. We took a while to decide on our order, but that was the only thing we may have done to upset her. We placed large orders and didn't ask for anything superfluous so to receive this kind of treatment felt uncalled for. I don't think we'll be coming back, which is such a shame since the food was good and we enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant until our waitress started treating us so poorly. One friend ordered miso ramen and enjoyed it. The other friend and I ordered the Sumo Love Boat for two with the Hot Girl and Broncos rolls. The sushi chefs worked very hard and I appreciate their work in creating a beautiful experience. I am so incredibly sad that I didn't get to try the dessert. This was our first visit at a sushi place. We got there pretty much shortly after they opened their doors for dinner and we were seated fairly quickly. It took a while for us to actually order but our waitress was super attentive. She was ordered some drinks for starter followed by yellowtail jalapeños and beef tataki for appetizers. We followed that up with some special rolls such as Volcano, Out of Control and Fantastic rolls. They were also nice enough to provide us with complimentary dessert for our friend as it was her birthday. Overall, the sushi rolls were tasty and the service was certainly above standard. I was really in the mood for ramen in Longmont but hadn't found a place I liked. I had seen Sumo before in passing and thought it was a fast casual place like Tokyo joes. I was very wrong. It's actually a Nice Japanese restaurant with a feel of authenticity with a little bit of hipness. I came in around 530 and they were already super busy. It was just me at my table for one and I waited about 15 minutes which wasn't bad considering how busy it was. When they sat me, I felt a little bit bad because they sat me at a four top and I was just one person so I mentioned to the waitress that it was OK to seat me with one or two more people if somebody else came in similar situation. The waiter was quick and polite and I ordered a California hand roll and the tonkatsu Ramen. the hand Rall came out at about the right time for how busy they were but the Ramen took a little longer than normal which the waiter let me know what's going to happen. I wish I would've taken a picture of the hand roll because it was very beautiful and a great size. When the Takatsu came out, it was beautifully presented and I was pleasantly surprised that it had great flavor. I ended up adding some spicy sauce and it was perfect except for the fact the noodles were slightly overcooked but it did not distract from the dish as a whole. The price for both was $26 which I thought was reasonable 32 with tip. Lastly, while I did not feel rushed, you could tell they were waiting for me to leave and when I left the restaurant I saw the line out the door and understood why. I did go to the bathroom before I left and it was extremely clean and smelled wonderful which is a big plus in my book. Ah, refreshing. The sushi sashimi combo, edamame, beef tataki and a few rolls to satisfy my girl friend and I's deep hunger. Unfortunately we ate half before I remember to take a shot, but fret not; it solely implies to the deliciousness and absolute saliva filling delicacy that these treats were. From mango rolls to the sashimi, very easy and smooth to devour. This is our third time here and I whole heartedly give the food and waiters our absolute love. The only desire I wish from this place was a bit of fun or culture. It feels like a fairly boring restaurant that is never too busy. Though I believe the family who built this place is original, the vibe is definitely modern American. The food at Sumo was very good. We had a large party and they accepted our reservation which was great. I am glad to see another quality sushi place in Longmont. The wait staff was great, the time to get food was fast, and the price was even competitive for sushi. My only issue was with the greeter or bartender that was working the door. I respect that everywhere is having a hard time hiring people and the restaurant business is hard but customers are not the people to take out your frustrations. When my 74 year old mother walks in the door and the first words out of your mouth are "please give me five minutes!!", not hello or welcome, you need to not be managing the traffic at your restaurant. Greet people appropriately, and then ask for some extra time. Not valuing your customer is the number one way to lose customers forever. Kinda feels like we got forgotten about even though we had a group of 5 and the other groups that came in at the same time as we had 6 and 7 people. So not sure what the deal is with this place but extremely disappointed. If it wasn't for my sisters birthday we would have left a while ago.
