She has also served me with a lease violation for my son's toy car kept outside my door, and when I confronted her about other tenants having personal property outside their doors as well, I was told "they have lived here for 20 years" so there's also obvious favoritism going on. The straw that broke the camel's back is that about a month ago, my key would not allow me into my apartment on a Sunday. I called the emergency line and was instructed to call a locksmith and submit the invoice (almost $600) for the changed lock to management. I have been given the runaround since, first with Angelika claiming they "don't have any evidence" that I was locked out. Management nor guest services they direct you to will give you any information on how to reach a supervisor/regional manager. After doing my own research and finding her contact information on my own, Jennifer Nguyen instructed me to deduct to locksmith fees from the following month's rent. Then days later, Angelika mentions she spoke with Jennifer and they cannot accept partial payment of rent. Please stay away from these SLUMLORDS! I wish I had read reviews from their other properties before making the decision to move in.

They own several apartment complexes and they don't care about anything or anyone. It's a disgrace. One of the worst rental experiences of my life. Do not rent from J & J Communities or any property they manage. The lack of communication was unbelievable. Calls were not returned, emails went unanswered, and promises were made that were never kept. When serious issues arose, there was little to no follow-up and no accountability. The condition of the property was also a concern. There were ongoing issues with musty, mold-like odors in the carpeting that were never adequately addressed. Resident concerns seemed to be treated as inconveniences rather than legitimate problems. The most frightening experience occurred when a shooting took place directly outside my apartment. The incident was serious enough to make the news, yet management never contacted me to ask if I was safe, offer support, or even acknowledge what residents had experienced. The complete lack of concern was shocking. The worst part happened after I moved out. Due to serious medical issues, I was forced to leave early. Management was fully aware of my situation, knew I had vacated the unit, and the apartment was rented to someone else. I was told not to worry. Years later, while trying to rent another apartment, I discovered that I had been reported as owing rent for a period after I had already moved out. I have spent countless hours trying to correct records that should have been handled properly in the first place. Errors like this can damage a person's credit, rental history, and ability to obtain housing. The consequences are real, yet getting anyone to take responsibility has been nearly impossible. I would never rent from this company again and would strongly caution others against doing so. There are too many property management companies out there to take a chance on one that communicates so poorly and handles resident records with such little care. They ruined my chance of getting the apartment if my dreams. I had no idea that they reported something that was untrue not only say that I didn't pay but fabricated more than double the Rent!! But things changed dramatically the third year and after a new property manager, Maricela Bocanegra, took over. To be clear, the issues with this building go beyond just one person--they start at the top. However, I'll share my personal experience: * Roach infestations * Homeless individuals sleeping on pool chairs and loitering around the property * Robbery and unsafe conditions * Neighbors openly using drugs, damaging property, or behaving erratically (sometimes even nude) * Neighbors leaving trash in random places. * Strangers doing drugs in the stairwells * Ongoing water shutoffs, weekly. * Mold problems * Poor communication from both the property manager and her supervisors, like Angelica Pluckett * Unfair deposit practices--they will do anything to keep it and not give it to you within the lawful period. The only positive aspect of this property is the maintenance and cleaning staff. They are hardworking, kind, and frankly deserve better than the environment they're working in. If you care about your peace of mind, proper communication with your property manager and mental health, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

If you care about your hard earned money do not live here. They will nickel and dime you. Lived here for 2 years and somehow they thought it was reasonable to take a huge chunk of our security deposit. They charged us $160 dollars for a door repair which I had put in multiple service request during the time we lived there. They came to fix it with bondo filler a month prior to us moving out and still charged us with repair fees. We tried disputing this with the management company and they still found us at fault. They also deducted $495 dollars for fridge repairs. Which by the way we never had a brand new refrigerator to begin with. They gave us a used fridge which over the duration of 2 years was already starting to give out. Not sure how that doesn't count as normal wear and tear but again the management company is using OUR MONEY to fund a new fridge. On top of that, they charged us a $200 dollar late fee on rent when the landlord, Philandria said it was ok to deduct the rent from our security with no mention of a late fee. The management did reimburse us for this late fee. Only after reaching out to them multiple times over 2 WEEKS after they sent us the initial check. While the unit we lived in was nice and spacious... Don't let the pictures fool you. This place looks quite luxurious in the professional photos on the website but this place is nothing fancy. They only come to clean the entire build about once a week which is clearly not enough since residents do not pick up after themselves. Also the landscaping only gets done about once a month so if you want to take your pet out front the grass gets pretty tall and ratty. For the amount you pay here in rent you would think they can afford to have regular landscaping. Nope, there is dog feces in the grass that doesn't get picked up for weeks. At times service request would go many many days without a response (lack or urgency). Also walls were so thin you can hear stomping upstairs all day and all night. so if you live on the first or second level you're screwed. You'll hear everythinggggg. Additionally your car is not safe in the gated parking structure. Our friend parked in the structure and found that her car had been keyed. I reached out to the landlord multiple times to see footage and get to the bottom of it but we received no response. When I called Philandria (landlord) she said was that it was on her "to-do list" and she would get back to me. never did. as you can tell there was no urgency. I hope that people think twice before renting here. With the way the economy is and how difficult some places make it to be a renter... It's companies like the one that runs this complex that really like to take advantage of people. Side note- by the time we moved out they wanted to raise the rent on us again.... In two years they raised it over $600 dollars over what we paid when we first signed the lease. When they put the apartment back up for lease it was going lower than what they had wanted to charge us.

The staff is generally decent-to-good, as they've always had really solid handymen (shout out to Ubaldo & Army specifically, the MVPs of this place). It's a good location in the center of the NoHo Arts District with easy access to bars and grocery stores with a decent pool and gym. But the building was poorly constructed and we had flooding nearly anytime it rained over the years, which was exacerbated dramatically during the heavy storms of early 2023. The vendors who came in to fix the problem had less than no idea what they were doing and had to fix the same problem at least four times. They never explained what they were doing, would routinely disappear without locking our door and were generally rude. Now if you're thinking "well, those are outside contractors", fair, except that's the root of the problem. The contractors and construction issues were all symptomatic of the ownership company that ran the building, Greystar, who DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR RESIDENTS ON ANY LEVEL. These people decided to basically blow up the building and remodel during the pandemic. Every day of quarantine/"Safer At Home" was jackhammers and destruction. Sleep was fleeting. If the building hadn't recently changed hands, and the staff weren't clearly trying their best in spite of corporate overlord nonsense, this would be a 1-star review. I cross-posted this between the new page and the only one and lowered the rating because honestly, the one month we lived there when Greystar wasn't actively trying to handcuff the staff and torment the renters was a marked improvement.
