It's reet pretty here, what with it being on a quintessentially English village green in the Surrey Stockbroker Belt n'all. After a days hard walking in the North Downs, it was a relief to come across this pub in Betchworth and take in a couple of pints & refuel accordingly. It proved to be a visit of two halves................
The pub is very pretty. Light & airy with high ceilings and an unfussy atmosphere. Spacious too, with pine floorboards, wood burner & a good selection of Surrey & London beers. Fullers, Youngs, Friary & a guest from Ringwood, Hampshire. Ironic given the place reminded me of several New Forest boozers....
However the food was a tad pricey & a tad flavourless. I had prawn & mussel tagliatelle in a dill sauce. The mussels were good, but the dill sauce was a watery slop. £9.80? Hmmm. A thicker sauce & some Parmesan would've been nice chaps.
It's very nice here, an old school Edwardian pub, but tidy up the cooking guys. I could've done better myself............ read more
