A proper local pub with great food and, best of all, warm and friendly service whether you are a local or new to the area.

Getting in a little late to go to London, we turned our attention to something close to the Gatwick airport. After finally sorting our Uber rides, we were off to The Farmhouse. First impressions were of a traditional British pub experience, which was a good start. Our clumsiness of grabbing a table and figuring out whether we needed to go to the bar to order or wait to be served, surely gave us away as "not locals." Our server was friendly and provided us with our menus and took our drinks order. The one shortfall was that the menu had a number of items not available and with an assist from a customer, two of us needed a rethink on their meal. In all, it was 4 Fish & Chips, One Farmhouse Burger, and a Battered Halloumi burger, plus an order of calamari, and 4 tomato and garlic soups. There were zero plates taken off the table that were not empty! I had the Halloumi burger, which had a great, crispy batter topped with some guacamole mayo with a red sauce on the side. Really good. Then we doubled down and hit the dessert menu! Two warm chocolate brownies with salted caramel ice cream and four plum tarts. We asked for some custard on the side because who doesn't like custard?! Save for the debate about whether it was more a pie than a tart, another set of empty plates were the only evidence left. Would definitely recommend The Farmhouse!

We also go the Camembert, olives, and some ciders. This was definitely worth the effort to leave the airport, get an Uber, and then return to the airport. Cute place with good food.

Friendly and welcoming staff, great menu, speedy service and excellent food. Even my beef sarni was choc-full of beef, and plenty of salad. Just sorry about the trail of mud from someone's boots. Tried to clear it up with loo roll but the nice waiter kindly told me not to worry. Not local but would gladly revisit if in the area again.

The fresh and delicious sides which comes with the Sunday roast are part of the attractions too. I highly recommend the baked camembert as a starter to share, as it is stuffed and baked with garlic and rosemary. Naughty but nice. The pub celebrated its 1st birthday under new management in September 2010, and the quality of food is consistent. While the staff was attentive, they seem forgetful at times even when the restaurant wasn't packed (for example, forgetting to bring us a refill of water), but perhaps that is more a reflection of the restaurant's / staff's youth. Overall, if you are in the Epsom / Epsom racecourse area, this is a nice pub to spend the afternoon with good food and decently priced drinks.

When I come to England, this is on my go to list. A very eclectic menu featuring a stone baked selection of steaks. Starters are amazing. I had the chicken liver spread and my guest had mussels. Many others to pick from. The featured soup changes daily. Our main courses on this occasion were sea bass, prawns, French country chicken, and lamb. We were not disappointed. Also, the presentation was excellent with hot plates for the entrees. The Sunday Roast is worth the visit. Very delectable deserts are available from brûlée to ice cream with fresh fruit. GM has a charming bar area if you just need a drink. The outside area is nice. The restaurant is secluded from the main road So please go with some friends, but please blindfold them so we can keep the Grumpy Mole our little secret place.

The staff are friendly although sometimes not the sharpest (for example, brought water to the wrong table, took awhile to tidy away our empty dishes), but these fairly minor things that don't detract much from the pleasure of the meal. The food were beautifully prepared and presented, using very fresh ingredients. I had the crayfish salad to start which was dressed in a thai-chilli mixture that wasn't particularly spicy but quite flavoursome, colourfully presented which really whetted my appetite. My main of seabass and prawns in a white wine cream sauce was delicious, although the baby prawns were slightly disappointing (but that was partly my fault as I had envisioned a couple of large tiger prawn swimming with my filet of sea bass). I also had the chocolate roulade to finish, which was light and fluffy (and very naughty for lunch!). One of us had the beef stroganoff and the portion size was absolutely huge, but we felt it might have been compensating slightly for the lack of 'oomph' (although we all have a slightly different expectations of what a beef stroganoff should be like as there are so many variations!). The beef was very tender though and it was certainly a pleasant dish. Another one of us had the venison wellington that was perfectly cooked. All in all, the Grumpy Mole was nice pub for a (rainy) day to have a drink (or few) and food as it was so warm and welcoming inside. There were also some outside seating immediately in front of the pub, but we'll have to come back on a sunny day for that!
