He refused to put rhinestones and cute stuff on my nails because I wasn't a regular customer and said it hurts his business. I told him that I'll pay for the design but he still refused. Unfortunately, this experience made it very clear that this place has gone downhill. Before my service even began, the man who was supposed to service me demanded payment upfront, claiming it was because it was his "first time" servicing me. I've never been asked to pay before a service here--or at any nail shop--and when I questioned it, he became aggressive, stood up, and started yelling, saying he would not do my nails unless I paid first. To make matters worse, I was told their card machine was "about to stop working" and that I should Cash App instead of using my debit or credit card, which is extremely fishy and unprofessional. What made this situation impossible to ignore was the fact that a white woman walked in immediately after this encounter and was NOT asked to pay before her service. The contrast in treatment was loud and clear. They say "put your money where your mouth is," and to me, my money means respect. While the location remains conveniently right of 5th Street near Wegmans with ample parking options, the interior is unclean and the nails tools/clips/files are reused without being cleaned or sterilized. They do accept walk-ins in addition to having an appointment. The first polish color I picked off the shelf was so caked on the rim and dried out that the nail technician was unable to open it even after using plier grips (the fact that she had pliers in her drawer also says this is not an uncommon issue of being unable to open dried polish bottles) so I ended up picking a different polish color instead. Updated 2023 prices in the attached photo, which remain on-par with most other salons in the area. read more

I haven't been back since 2022 since moving away, but the workers were always very kind and treated me like a friend. I just went here with my daughter. I had an acrylic fill and my daughter (she's 7) wanted her nails painted. It was $150!!! He did have to take most of my nails off (which he did very roughly) and my daughter did gel with designs.. but I was in shock. So much that I paid and walked out just totally confused. I've never had nails cost this much. It was my mistake not asking ahead of time but it made me realize that they must have charged me over $70 for my daughter's nails. Over-priced, poor service, filthy facility from front to back to bathrooms to pedicure chairs. No base coat under pedicure paint. No massage to legs in pedicure or hands in manicure. Rubbed oil on my arms with the dirty gloves on that had clippings and dust from the manicure causing the massage to be gritty and bumpy. DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT COMING HERE. Came with a group of 6 but called days in advance to make sure they could accommodate. Everything started out fine with our pedicures. They started with those of us getting manicures as well. Which is fine, made sense to me but this is when things started going south. I asked for white on my nails but I was told no because the white would yellow... I always get white on my toes and I've never had that problem. I got the basic pedicure and for $30 it literally was the most basic. Just a foot soak file and regular polish. He painted my nails and then went to apply the top coat and took the brush out of the bottle but never put it on. Took it out went to touch it to my nail... stopped and put it back. A day later my polish on my toes was completely chipped. Then new people kept coming in and they'd help the new folks and not the rest of the people in our party that waited an hour before anyone started on their pedicure. Next let's talk about my manicure. I was moved after getting my pedicure and proceeded to have to wait half an hour before he came to do my nails. They were out of the first polish I picked, they were then out of the second polish I picked, he then brings over some options. Both that I had picked were light pink and he brought over a yellow and a purple... he finally found a light pink. He filed my nails, then I washed them, and he started painting. I don't get gel often but there was no prep. THE SAME DAY MY NAILS STARTED POPPING OFF. I had a wedding the next day and I had to go with my nails looking like this. $45 for my nails to look like this the same day is a scam. Not to mention he reused the tools on my hands that he used on the lady next to me. I hope this gets looked into because it did not feel clean. Finally I go to pay and THEY DONT TAKE CARDS. We didn't see any signs posted that said this. They had an ATM but I didn't have my debit card on me (I had left it at our hotel) and I didn't have enough cash so someone in our party had to pay for me. All around it felt like a scammy experience we were all trying to relax and this experience did anything but that! Trust the reviews here and find somewhere else. Horrible experience! I went in for a pedicure and went to the bathroom and it was disgusting and so I got nervous about the hygienic quality of their tools. Etc...and wanted to cancel but decided that I should stay and pick out a color. The person who was to perform the service tried to hurry me (usually I hurry and do not get the color I want). This review is a little late because I wanted to make sure that the promise of a beautiful, long-lasting, manicure was fulfilled and boy, was it! Three weeks out and they still look great, despite having grown out quite a bit. I got the powder dip for the first time and was a little skeptical when my manicurist said they were better and lasted longer than gel. The process is fast and cool to watch and no joke, they're WAY better than gel and the color even seems a little deeper. It was exactly what I wanted. The place was clean and Chris? (may be getting his name wrong) was friendly and informative and did a really great job. I no longer live in Cville, but if I did, this would become my "go to" place. I really enjoyed my experience at Royal Nails. There are a ton of chairs so I wouldn't think there would be issues with a wait. They brought out fresh fruit and water for me to enjoy during my pedicure! My nail technician was really nice and did a good job on my mani and pedi. They use the disposable bags in the pedi massage bowl which always makes it feel a little cleaner. She gave me a basic mani at the pedi chair which was nice I didn't need to move. My only complaint was that I read the menu wrong and thought it would be about $40 and it was actually $60. It was probably my fault, but that's a pretty big difference. I would not recommend this nail salon. They are extremely misleading. When me and my mother first entered the salon they immediately seated us which I thought was nice. The girl began to do my feet and handed me the menu of prices. The menu was extremely misleading I wanted gel and she kept pointing to the scents for leg scrubs and didnt point out the pedi price. She was aware this was our first time and pressured us into a scrub which was something I could have done myself for free. I received the weakest massage of my life and a leg scrub. She painted my toes then proceeded to my manicure. Once all finished she said for me to pay while I was still sitting at the table. I tried to go to the counter and she said no pay here. She charged me $95 for a mani/pedi with gel. She took my card and went to the counter to pay. I was astounded by the price as I checked out my pedicure and then nails. This was NOT a $95 job. I did not even receive acrylic nails. Angered by the price me and my mother tried to discuss why the price was so ridiculous and where the extra charges were coming from. The manager, I'm assuming, argued with us how there was a no refund policy and showed us a tiny sign on the front counter literally hidden by a little plant. How were we to see this when we were immediately sat in chairs and then told to pay from our seats. I believe they took advantage of us with the language barrier because there were other employees in the store who spoke perfect english and they did not ask them for help. The shop gave me a $20 gift card which I do not even want because why would I return for another poor nail job and lousy customer service. Highly dont recommend. Check their google reviews as well. Why is zero stars not an option? Stupidly gave Royal Nails a second chance. I asked for tips, dip and cuticle trim. The guy did the tips and then started to apply acrylic powder and I stopped him at the first nail. I've had my nails done hundreds and hundreds of times over 30 years - I know the acrylic nail process and this was definitely acrylic. He told me he was using dip powder and going to use Gel polish (which I absolutely did not want) but he kept on applying acrylic to each and every nail. Yup, I'm an idiot for not standing up and walking out. He also skipped over the cuticle trim part. Pedicure was decent but the chocolate pedi I asked for was just a regular pedi. Not sure what that was about. Basically, they're going to lie to your face about what they're doing and what products they're applying. I'm so ticked I gave them money. By the way, they do not accept credit cards AT ALL. Just cash. That's sketch. So, now I'm waiting for my nail infection to start. It was super dirty in there too. That's fun. Do not go here.
