Review for Tips and Toes Nail Salon - April 2025 I visited Tips and Toes with my daughter for a mother-daughter day. We were looking forward to some quality time and self-care, and while the technicians were kind and the work itself was well done, I left the salon feeling taken advantage of due to the pricing and lack of transparency. Before going, I estimated the cost to be around $350, including tip--a generous allowance for what I expected. However, I was charged $467.31, including a 30% tip. I didn't have time to review the total immediately, as we had other appointments. Later, I returned to ask for an itemized receipt because the amount didn't feel right. Here's what was listed: * Daughter's gel pedicure - $70 * My full acrylic set with gel polish (hands) - $75 * Daughter's dip manicure - $65 * My full acrylic set (toes) - $60 * Classic pedicure add-on for my toes - $49 * Nail extension for daughter's dip manicure - $10 * Gel color add-on for my toes - $20 This brought the total for my toes alone to $129, despite the fact that I had already done all prep work myself the night before, including cutting cuticles and removing calluses. I simply wanted a full set of acrylics on my toes--not an additional $49 charge for a classic pedicure that wasn't requested. What's more, when I asked about pricing for future fill-ins, I was quoted $65 for hands and $110 for toes. I've never been charged anything close to that price for fill-ins on my toes in the past, and I've been getting my nails done for decades. At no point were prices posted anywhere in the salon or clearly communicated to us before services were rendered. If I had known that a full set on my toes would cost $129, I absolutely would have declined. That kind of expense was not foreseeable and, in my opinion, not clearly justified. The experience has left me feeling misled and disappointed. I believe in paying fairly for services, but customers deserve upfront transparency. I hope the salon considers posting visible pricing and being more communicative with clients about add-ons and their associated costs before starting services. I truly wanted to leave this salon feeling pampered and peaceful--but instead, I left with a sense of being taken advantage of. I'm sharing this in hopes that it encourages better practices for future clients. read more

I wanted to love this place based on the other positive reviews and the nice guy at the front desk but my experience was subpar. I got a manicure and pedicure and had issues with both. The nail tech made me bleed during my mani which happens every so often so I wasn't upset but then I had a different nail tech, that had to be new, because my pedi took twice as long as my moms. It's now been 8 hours since my pedi and the polish on my big toes still isn't dry and just peeled off when I put on a pair of shoes. Super disappointing! read more

Most of the people employed here seem to not have much experience in taking care of nails. I got a mani pedi from here that almost cost $100. I noticed that most of the supplies they use are things you can buy online for much cheaper. I get my nails done at salons to take care of hangnails but ever since I've left this salon I've been dealing with hangnails on my fingers for the first time in a month . I had non-soak off gel from a previous nail salon I went to but they used acetone anyway. Ever since then my nails have started to peel from under the gel, which defeats its purpose of protecting my nails in the first place. Each of my nails have a weird dent in the middle of them, which I couldn't see until I got home to some dimmer lighting. I didn't give this place one star because it's a clean, professional, and relaxing environment but I would personally not come back here again. read more

I will be the first to say I am not someone who get their nails done often. I have done my own for the past few years and recently decided to treat myself. I first went to a different salon in the area and I was okay with the service but it was overpriced and they were not good quality. I decided to get an acrylic fill in here for my birthday. When I walked in I was stunned it's beyond beautiful inside. We were greeted and they offered my sister and I water. Keira ended up doing my nails and I was blown away by how focused and efficient she was. She is talented. It was affordable and worth while compared to the other place I recently went to. I'm incredibly disappointed with the service I received from your front desk agent and owner Luis (Angel Cruiz). I called to confirm my appt with him this morning and was told my appointment was with Madison, a tech I've never had a service with nor have I ever met. Aside from Edith I have had appts with Tay, Fatima, and Terri (all great techs). This is how I know I did not schedule any appointments with someone named Madison. I remember who's worked on my toes and nails and do try to remain with the same person for consistency. I had been trying to get an appt with Edith since Oct '23 and it was very difficult to find any availability with her. During Nov- December'23 time frame Luis scheduled consecutive monthly appointments with Edith to allow me to have appointments before her schedule filled. Luis did not schedule the correct technician for my service today and refused to admit any fault in the matter. Moreover, after explaining my frustration about this mistake I told him to try to get an appointment with her now puts me out of a service for weeks ( since her schedule is always packed) . Again, no empathy from this person on his error. So, I canceled the remainder of the appts that I had with Edith. Here's what really made things worse, when I asked him to cancel he was very short with me, gave me the "thank you" with an attitude and hung up before I was finished talking. He could care less about how upset I was. I'm a great customer, come in and get my service quietly, give appreciative tips and am genuinely thankful for the hard word these techs put in, all I ask is to be treated with the same respect. This owner will be the downfall of this business at the rate he's going. I wanted to love this place due to all of the amazing reviews, but this was unfortunately one of the worst quality services I've received. My past polish was not removed all the way, polish was left all over the sides of my cuticles, and it was put on thick and streaky, thus creating bubbling in various places. I am a teacher from San Diego visiting historic sites during my summer break. I had my nails done before I left, then one broke last night and I was so sad. I am staying at the holiday inn next door to this nail salon. I saw the sign and went in to see if they could fix. They took me in right away and fixed my nail up right. I noticed this new place every time I drove on 5th Street. I went for the first time today and was super impressed! A lot of focus on preserving and supporting your natural nails. Gel nails were soaked off rather than peeled/filed down all the way, and my natural nails with polish look great! Service was amazing too--quick but not rushed. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the salon and all of the staff were very nice. I've been here twice and will not go anywhere else from now on. Prices are reasonable for a classic pedicure and the polish still looks like new almost 2 weeks now. I used to go to another salon in Charlottesville, but this one is the best. It's very easy to get to, right off the highway. Parking is sometimes an issue especially if you try to get a space in the front of the building. If nothing is available, you have to go back on 5th street and make a U turn to get back to the building. The solution is just to park in the back lot. read more

After my experience, I will never recommend anyone this place. I had been looking for a new nail salon in Charlottesville after I got nicked at my old place, and decided to give this salon a try. I booked a hydrating pedicure with Stephanie, and I went in with high hopes. I was cut on two toes, and at one point, I was bleeding so badly that she had to stop painting my nails to try to clean it up. After the first nick, I expected some sort of apology or acknowledgement of what happened, but received neither. She carried on as if nothing happened. I realized I should have spoken up after the second cut, but by that point it was too late. I immediately went home and washed my feet with antibacterial soap and rubbing alcohol since the cuts had still not stopped bleeding by the time I was done. I was still charged the full amount, but I left no tip because of this unsanitary, unprofessional service. By far, the best salon I've been to in cville! they're the only salon that comes close to my expectations for hygiene. staff was very friendly and welcoming. I spoke to my nail tech who said that cleanliness is very important to them. they use sterilized equipment for each customer. they clean the pedicure jetted tubs tubing with hospital-grade disinfectant once or twice a week, per the instructions, in addition to thorough cleaning btw each customer. the table tops were cleaned btw each customer and didn't look cluttered/messy, or full of nail dust. the technician said she felt like her health and safety, as well as the customers, is a top priority for the management, rather than simply making money. will definitely return! the only downside is just that it's not easy to have a walk-in, just because they dont always have availability last minute. scheduling on their website is also super easy! read more

Also it's hard to get someone to answer the phone. Called to make an appointment over the phone and the person who answered was pretty rude. I won't be going to this business.
