Horrible place for pedicures. They don't massage. They don't understand any English. My boyfriend and I came for pedicures. I asked if the pedicure comes with a massage (this is standard but I figured I ask to be safe) they just nod yeah yeah yeah to everything you say. I sit in the chair, the pedicure was fine but then he started painting my nails. I stopped him and asked if they do the massage after the paint? The lady doing my boyfriend's pedicure says that it doesn't come with a massage. I am livid, since I SPECIFICALLY ASKED if I will be getting a massage. She said it's $10 extra. NO MAAM. Glad I decided to give this place another shot! Called the day of to make an appointment for a basic spa pedicure. COVID precautions taken: use of hand sanitizer after coming in required, masks required, social distancing between massage chairs, staff wearing masks, customers wearing masks when not imbibing in drinks (so glad they are still offering tea/wine/margarita for customers). Thao (forgive me if I misspelled) did my pedicure and did an amazing job! She was very gentle when pushing back the cuticles and around my bony prominences with the pumice stone. So my friend and I came here once before, probably 3 weeks ago or so. She usually gets a full set and I get a gel manicure, I pick at my cuticles so it's mostly for the manicure. Last time we came her set was super pretty and they did a great job on mine too. We went again yesterday and omg. The lady offered me a hard gel add on for $10 and I added paraffin wax to my pedicure for $5. It took over 2 HOURS and just everything looks hideous. When we got back from the salon we could really see how everything looked. I paid $110 total, I added an eyebrow wax for $15. Honestly the eyebrow wax was the only thing that was good. She barely touched my cuticles and all the staff were standing around the two of us speaking another language super loud and pointing at us. My regular ass gel manicure was over $50.. wtf? Don't get me wrong they do 5 star quality nails! The 4 star review is because of them charging me for a manicure and a specific design that I didn't get. As I looked through some "nail inspiration" pictures on Pinterest I ended up asking for a French tip with a double line. I showed the nail tech the picture and he said he can do it with an up charge. I agreed and he started applying the nails first. I thought it was odd but I've had nail techs apply the acrylic set then do the manicure so i let him do him. The manicure never came. By the time he finished I was just so happy at how cute my nails were I forgot to mention the design and manicure. Tommy did my pedicure. He did a good job with my french tip, the pedicure could have been better. No scrubbing or picking of dead skin... just put my feet in warm water for a lil bit, put lotion on my legs me up and started polishing. Although they did a good job (and finding a good nail tech is hard) I won't be back because anyone that lacks integrity and honesty doesn't deserve my money. This is a great place for a pedicure. This salon is big and very clean!!!! There is no chemical smell bc the salon is so large. They have a lot of new high tech chairs for pedis. There is also a huge bar for manis with built in drying stations. What really sets this place apart from others is their customer service. Michael and Sara are very friendly and attentive. They check and see how you're doing and offer snacks and drinks (they have a full bar and wide variety of snacks ). NGL I got a little buzzed there haha. The rest of their staff is also very friendly and listen to your requests. They really care about making you feel welcome. I got a pedicure from Jessica. Royal Nail Bar is located in the heart of busy Hayward Loop. I normally hate driving into and through the loop but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do - get her DIVA maintenance on! Plus, I wanted to test this place out as a go-to-place for my nail needs. When you walk in, it's huge! Plenty of pedi massage chairs and loads of nail styling desks. They even took their BAR theme to another level by adding an actual BAR inside their nail shop. You can see bottles and bottles of wine lining against the wall. Good stuff! :) They have the best complimentary drink/snack menu in town! Chips, candy, tea, margaritas, wine, water and more! :) Good massage chairs - I can actually understand how to operate the machine. Most nail salons have plastic wrapped all over the remotes and I can't read through them. :) Meticulous detailing on the cuticles - I had a lot of cuticles to deal with and they didn't missed a single nugget. :) I love my mani/pedi gel outcome. Looks so purdy. :) Great massages - these ladies actually put pressure into the massages to make the blood flow through. :) There's a parking lot in the back of the building and it's FREE for 4 hours! Nice! It can use some improvements... :| Cash only - I get that small businesses don't want to cut ~3% of their earnings towards bank fees. But if you want your business to grow, then you have to start accepting credit/debit cards and mobile payments. It's the NOW, the wave of the future and you'll need it to really survive as cash is a dying breed. :| Like other customers, I too experienced the water running in the Pedi chair with no supervision. I had to ask the technician next to me to turn it off before it started flowing out of the tub. This just shows carelessness. :| The employees act like it's happy hour throughout my service. I mean, I had 3 people hovering over my chair just chatting away like a pickup scene at a disco club. Please, please, please shut the hell up as I'm trying to relax! I think one of the ladies saw that I had an annoyed face and shooed away the extra's that were not providing me with service. They got the hint from my resting and non-resting b* face! Overall, it was an A-OK experience. I'm not going to totally nix the idea of coming back but I want to continue testing other shops in the 94541 area code. Waaay current...as in this morning at 11:15 am current . It's best to call ahead and make an appointment although they do accept walk-ins. It also helped that it is a Sunday. First thing I noticed is a sign that says "Cash Only". I don't know about you, but this stresses me out a little bit. While I tend to carry cash most of the time, I don't expect to see it at a Nail Salon. I was greeted by the owner who asked if this was my first time (it was) so he said that he'll take a credit card this time. Im a business owner too so understand that accepting credit cards can be costly but this is part of doing business and provides a convenience for customers. RNB might think about placing an ATM to lessen the inconvenience - just a thought! I ordered up a gel mani and a regular pedi ($50). I was given a drink menu. The draw to this place is that there is actual drink bar. They offer wine, coffee, tea. The wine is served in a wine glass but the coffee and tea in melamine mugs . A suggestion to add a touch more glamour? Serve coffee and tea in fine china . As with most nail salons, there's 2 people working on you. I have been getting my nails done for 29 years so I can probably say that I am nail salon snob . I know how I like my nails done and Im not shy to tell you. I like my cuticles clean, clean, clean and my nails short. The experience wasn't unpleasant but felt like the girl who did my pedicure was a novice. Those instruments are sharp and I was poked several times - no major injuries but it was painful nonetheless. There was a portion of my pedicure when I felt like my skin was being filed. I finally had to ask to cut my nails down more. Part of the pedi service is a sugar scrub and an extra long foot and calf massage - good adds. My gel manicure was almost the same experience in that my cuticles were not cut enough. People who have their cuticles cut down know the feeling of clean. I will likely see my grown cuticles in about 2-3 days time which is disappointing because I will feel like I need another manicure again. The two ladies were very nice though. One area that I am always thankful is when they can tell their customers just want quiet time. Im normally pretty engaging and chatty; not today though. I just wanted some quiet "me" time, and I got it so thank you for that little piece of heaven Royal Nail Bar. How did my nails turn out? It wasn't the best I've ever had but it wasn't the worst either. It was okay, and I can live with it until my next one. I picked 1 nail color for both hands and feet :Pearl Martini. Im pretty sure that they didn't use the same nail color because my toe nails look more silver than pearl white. Additionally, This is a pearlized nail color so usually when it is applied, even if it's not evenly applied, it'll still look fine- my fingernails could have been done better. There are obvious areas where it is uneven that cant be hidden. Now while my review is only 3 stars, I still gave them a 20% tip. Why? Because while my nails were not perfect, they were kind and customer service was good. I'll be back, and hopefully with that next visit, another star will be earned. read more

EDIT: Okay, I have been a faithful patron of Royal Nail Bar and accumulated stamp cards for "$20.00 Discount Or Free Basic Pedicure." I went in for a pedicure today and when it was time to check out, I gave the lady who looks like she's in charge $5 as a tip for the guy who did my toes, said thank you and was about to walk out. She then told me I owed her $5 and I was like what? She said since the basic pedicure was $25, the discount card was only good for $20. (I've used previous stamp cards for manicures so just applied the $20 discount.) Confused, I pointed out to her that the card said free basic pedicure and again, she told me it's only up to $20 so since a basic pedicure was $25, I owed her $5. Lady, your English isn't great, but do you not understand what "or" means? Annoyed, I just gave her an extra $5 to cover what I "owed" because I didn't want her to stiff the guy of the tip since he actually did a good job, albeit a bit slow, but at least he was careful and took his time to be thorough. For me, it's not about the money. If it doesn't cover a basic pedicure, then don't put that on there, or say UP TO $20 DISCOUNT, but don't put "or." I would've had no problem paying the $5 if the card said "up to $20 discount." But it's about principle of honoring what is written and I think business owners should honor what they say. Honestly, I have been looking for a nail place for awhile and I will be going here from now on. Even though it's a little more than I usually spend, the work and the attention to detail is worth it. The lady who was doing then for me then fixed it which I said thank you since my nails had already been done technically. I had gone with my sisters and my older sister paid tip about $6 for mine which I regret. I'm disappointed because it hasn't been a week yet, and five of my nails are chipped, mind you I don't do work that requires me to scrape my nails or have them break. Just now I was lifting off the bedsheets of my bed and I felt the gel of my pinky nail come off. How is that possible?? I've gotten gel before and never did I have them crack in the week I got them? Went in for a Mani/Pedi & this was my 1st time there. I've seen this spot & was always curious to see what it was about. Definitely going back!! They are so sweet! For the Pedicures, there are so many different options to choose from, with massages & hot towels, etc. Lee, was the lady who did my mani, I told her how I broke a nail the other day & you could still see blood. She was so careful the whole time with my hands & when the way she did the French tip....at first I thought she was putting too much on, then she went back with a brush to remove the excess white & her hands were so steady! We were not impressed with the Royal Nail Bar. The only thing appealing is the decor. We really hoped it would be our new go to nail spot. People were friendly when we first walked in but that was it. Once we started getting our mani/pedis the women helping us didn't say a word and instead had their own conversations. The spa pedicures were not relaxing at all. They were supposed to massage the scrubs on our legs but it was all over so quickly. They put it on, spread it around then rinsed it off. We were the only ones there so I don't know why it was rushed. My friend's toe nails were cut crooked. Smh They didn't even put our nails or toes under a dryer.
