I was in dire need of a pedicure and happened to be in the area. They don't take walk-ins but I made an appointment within an hour of my call. Small, no-frills establishment (except for the candy!) and one technician (the owner, I believe). By no-frills I mean, no mood music, kind of old chairs and equipment, but everything in good working order. $28 for a simple pedicure, not bad considering the area! read more

This has been one of the best pedicures I've had in the area. The owner is very nice. There are no frills here, it's not a fancy place, but the guy knows what's he's doing. And it was only $28 for a perfect pedi. He gave a great massage and was very careful when he trimmed my cuticles. At some places they are so careless with cutting cuticles which always makes me nervous and can lead to some pain and discomfort afterward, so I appreciate his careful approach. Highly recommend if you're okay with a basic salon. read more

Simon does great manicures and pedicures (both for $40) but the real reason to come here is his foot massage. Wow. I never got into the massage part of manicures and pedicures and honestly only sit through it for the moisturizing (I'm very impatient), but Simon knows all these amazing pressure points and finds places on my feet I never knew were stressed. You should really go here - your feet will thank you. read more

Found on Yelp while I was running errands in Alexandria. Needed a pedi in the worst way and they didn't flinch when I walked in on a Friday afternoon. Not the fanciest salon but the techs are polite and professional, get their work done quickly without sacrificing quality, and bar none it was the best foot massage I've ever had. Worth the price of the pedi. I decided to add a mani, too. $40 for both, so very reasonably priced. read more

Nice local nail salon! They turned me around quickly as a walk-in for a mani-pedi. Those who mentioned Simon's foot massage as a plus are right on. My nails look nice, but there is still some visible dead skin on my heels, so I need a little more work before I'm sandal-ready. Friendly and quiet, very likeable people. The massage chairs maybe could use some updating; mine was more of a nudge than a knead. Will gladly go back. read more

Really enjoyed my time there and appreciated that he took me as a walk in. The manicure was 15 bucks. Simon was fun to talk to and he was quick and efficient. He didn't seem to mind that I interrupted his dinner. The salon is small and gives its customers a lot of attention. There are lots of colors to choose from. I will go back. read more

So, I called after looking at allllllllll these extremely high priced nail salons near my job...($60 for a full set?!?! Hope they're gold plated tips!) and the gentleman said he had time and it's $35...great! So I go, and it's just him, which was totally fine! He took his time and my nails look great! He was friendly and knowledgeable and NOT rushed. I may have found my regular shop! I did ask if he could do any design on one of my nails and he said he doesn't do much design, but I don't care about that either way, just FYI. Also he said he has a second technician too! read more

Im very pleased. I got an extra long hand/ arm massage (the best part of a manicure) and my nails looked great. The mani lasted about 2 weeks. The staff were very nice, and we had fun talking and joking during my time there. They even offer free candy :) read more

I have been going to Royal Nails for over 7 years. My pedicures last well over a month, my gel same thing. Every once in a while something quirky happens but you can go back in and they will fix it free. Prices are reasonable. It's not a fancy place, one of the massage chairs does not work, the other is OK. Simon can be cranky (he is joking most of the time :) but both he and Ai (his wife) have always been nothing but nice to me. Offer something to drink every time i am there (it's called building a rapport people) he will fit you in (sometimes with very little notice). They do not have an enclave but do sterilize the equipment. If you are looking for Red Door spa fancy, this will not be your cup of tea. if you are looking for good work done reasonably this is your place. read more

I have visited this place several times for pedis, and I have to give them a good review. Clean, quick, efficient and inexpensive, your basic mani-pedi with non of the frills or expense. You can often just stop in and they can take you. Operated by a husband and wife team, they are polite and quiet and go about the business at hand. read more

I would love this place so much more if I wasn't a clean freak. My shellac manicure lasted ages even by long standards, by pedicure was fantastic and Simon is excellent at giving them. If they had sealed client tools and were just a little cleaner and tidier, I would up the stars. read more

My nails have never looked better!! Simon is the absolute best, particularly with pink and whites...if you want absolutely natural looking nails, you really need to check out Royal Nails. I think I have tried half the salons in the area, and this is the only one that stuck. His pedicures are fabulous and last a very long time. read more

AMAZING! I love Simon! His hand and foot massage are out of this world-he knows exactly which pressure points to hit and is incredibly personable. This is a small, family owned shop: Simon works there FT and his wife and his sister work there PT. There are only 3 of them that work there so calling ahead to make a reservation is highly recommended. Support your local businesses! read more

As the other reviewers note, the massage is the best part of this pedicure. What I'm not super comfortable with is the level of hygiene; I like to see an autoclaved package of tools opened in front of me. The polish selection is good, and Simon is a great conversationalist. read more

My friend and I went together to get manicures at Royal Nails before I leave for vacation, and I was pleasantly surprised. I had called Circe Salon/Spa and also Sugarhouse Day Spa asking for an appointment, and both salons were very unaccommodating and told me they could only do back-to-back manicures, not both at the same time. Royal Nails was recommended to me by a friend, and I was very happy after I called and the phone was answered promptly and an appointment was made. A manicure was only $15, a FANTASTIC price for the awesome job they did. The hand massage was fantastic. It was very small, only 3 nail stations and 2 pedicure stations, but the service was very nice, and I loved the location-close to the shopping! Only drawbacks--- The hand towels were SO HOT I felt like I was cooking my hands. Also, there weren't as many nail colors as I wished. Needless to say, I will be going back next week for a French manicure! I highly condone this salon. read more

Received the WORST gel manicure here of my life. I went here to get my nails done on a Wednesday for my Saturday wedding since it was out of town and we were leaving Thursday. I had heard great reviews and thought I would come here since I had a good pedicure here before. I got a gel French manicure and 10 minutes after leaving it chipped!!! It continued to chip and looked horrible for my wedding. Now, two days after my wedding (Monday) the gel had completely come off of two nails! This is a fantastic place to go if you are in need of a quick manicure or pedicure. I was helped straight away (although I think I'd make an appointment for the weekend), and Simon was incredibly nice. He chatted, but not overly so and wasn't annoying. I was in and out and my nail and toes looked great! All for a total of $40!! read more

I came here randomly when I couldn't make it to my regular nail salon and I'm so glad I did! Quinn did most of my manicure and made sure I was satisfied each step of the way before she started painting. She also gave me an awesome hand massage and I felt like she really took went out of the way to make sure I was happy with the service. Her brother, Simon, completed my manicure and they were both talking and joking with me the whole time. I mention names because in most nail salons, people don't introduce themselves, but this family-run business is refreshingly friendly. Also, my manicure lasted me about a week and a half, which is longer than most places, and I probably would have left the polish on even longer if I had gotten a lighter color (navy blue makes it pretty obvious when it's chipping). Came here for a mani pedi. Loved that it;s nestled in a quiet section of Old Town. My manicurist was AI she was very sweet and did an awesome job. Felt uncomfortable with Simon though. I visited the nail salon based on reviews about him on Yelp but noticed that he acted like a jerk towards his wife. Hence the loss of stars. read more

Small, unkempt shop, and owner (Simon) is cranky. He gives a decent gel mani but the real gem is his wife. Unfortunately, she only works PT now. She also got tired of his crankiness. Stopped going because he badgers customers. While his wife was doing my nails, he was giving his client (an older English woman) a hard time about the economy and his rough life. It was awful to hear. When I said something, he said he was just joking, but his joking goes too far. The next time while I was getting my nails done with his wife, Simon was so negative towards his wife, saying how horrible she is doing nails, can't do anything rights, not even cook. He has to do everything. It was very awkward. Too much negativity. read more

Royal Nails is the best nail salon in Old Town. The proprietor, Simon, and his wife, Ai, have a loyal clientele because of the excellent services they offer. Their prices are competitive with nearby salons, but their expertise matches any of the top salons in Washington. It's best to call ahead for an appointment. read more

But when I saw Ivy had changed hands, I came back with cautious optimism today. I am so glad I did. I booked the Ivy Special for $80 with Nina and it was wonderful. She worked on me for a full hour with strong and skillful hands. The service included a soak, massage, mask, hot stones, and then more massage. It was absolute bliss. I will hands down go back to the new Ivy's and will recommend you give them a shot. The salon itself is clean and professional. The pedicure chair tubs still have protective bag coverings that are switched out between clients, and all tools come sterilized in sealed bags. The care and attention to detail are clear. If you had written Ivy Nails off in the past, give them another try. The new owners have completely turned it around. Ask for Nina, she is fantastic.
