I've been going here for years. Consistently good, excellent service and fabulous food.

We can always count on these guys for a quality and quick Indian food fix. Haven't dined in with them before but our experience with takeouts and delivery have been good. Always a good bonus when they can make their food quickly. One thing to look out for (for me personally) is the day after "hit"--for whatever reasons, maybe the abundance of spices in their dishes, the bathroom calls to be my best friend after I indulge in Indian food. read more

My wife and I went with some friends to royal India. We had an overall fairly good experience. The staff is nice, got us seated in a timely manner (we had a group of 8) and our food came out quickly. I got the chicken curry and really liked it. I was happy with how my dish turned out. My wife got the chicken masala. Masala is usually my favorite when it comes to Indian but i was underwhelmed with the masala. The naan bread was good! We got the garlic and butter. Overall had a good experience with service, the curry was great, the masala was average. Would recommend 7/10 read more

Update: 9/19/2018 Another fantastic meal, great service, and we all enjoyed our meal. My mom and my older brother are super picky and glad they all agreed on the food. Had the wonderful Palak soup and it was super flavorful and couldn't believe it was vegetarian. Also enjoyed the Lamb Rojan Josh it was perfectly flavored and not too spicy. Update: 9/29/2016 Had one of my co workers in town from out of the country and he wanted to see how Utah does Indian food. We started off with the lamb samosa's, and then had the chicken makhani and tikka masala with rice pilau and regular rice. Also ordered garlic naan which didn't have much garlic on it. We've been fans of Royal India for years and this location particularly. There are menu items available here that are not at their Bountiful location. The flavor profiles are always excellent and their Lamb Kurma is my favorite in the state, it has a really good nutty flavor and the spice levels are right where I like them. The wife opts for the Masala and has them add veggies to the chicken, a great combo and something that they do free of charge. The place gets busy. If you are eating in the "zone" of dinner time prepare to wait a little bit. It's worth the wait so stick with it. read more

The food was fresh and tasty. I was frustrated w the constant interruptions, however. My husband gave me a quiet dinner out alone for Mother's Day without the kids. I brought a short magazine to flip through. I was here for dinner a total of 30 minutes and had three waitresses interrupt and ask me at least ten times if I was ready for my box (when I'd just had a few bites), did I want a drink refill, was I still ok from 3 minutes before. Being a waitress myself a few times, I truly appreciate attentive service! I also appreciate not having to gulp my food down and feeling rushed right out the door when there are several empty tables. We LOVE coming here, but something happened. Somehow, someway, they got better. The meat is more tender and the dishes are just more flavorful. Mind blown. We got the Lamb Saag, the Chicken Kurma, the Batura (which is fried naan!) and the garlic naan. The Keema Dosa is amazing. Attentive staff, and great experience. Every few months we give Royal India another try, but their dishes continue to disappoint over and over. For a while, their rice was still good, but recently even the rice isn't good. The rice that came with our order yesterday was overcooked, mushy and greasy... I am pretty hopeless at this point that Royal India will ever get back to be the great restaurant they used to be, the one that used to stand out above all other Indian restaurants in SLC. Don't let the strip mall location throw you off; this is the best Indian cuisine in the valley. Strangely, Utah does have a good number of Indian restaurants, and I've eaten at many of them. We really loved the food here. The naan in particular is the absolute best we've found in Utah! We all adored the butter naan which was light and fluffy and we truly wished we had bought more than one order of the peshwari naan as it was the best we'd ever eaten!! They also had fried naan which I'd never had before but it was delicious. The veg samosa was a nice balance of potatoes and peas and my husband said the lamb biryani was exactly what he was looking for. My daughter in law enjoyed her malai kofta. Royal India used to be my favorite Indian restaurant. My last visit was extremely disappointing. The rice was mushy, and the dishes lacked their usual flavor. The Naan was inedible, I took one bite and threw the rest away. And worst of all, my husband's dish gave him food poisoning. I don't know what happened to this place. Hopefully they can redeem themselves but I won't be coming back any time soon. read more

Pretty disappointed. The naan is completely different from the last time we ordered. Honestly it tasted more like a flour tortilla than the soft, perfectly charred , airy naans we enjoyed on previous orders. Recipes seem different also. The Baingan Bharta eggplant dish was chunkier and less tasty . I'm sad used to love this place. We'll definitely give another chance, not that quickly I'm afraid. read more

As many of the other reviews echo, this is probably one of the best albeit unknown Indian Restaurants in the state. It's located in an unassuming stripmall, but don't let that fool you, there is a whole lot of flavor and awesomeness going on inside. Unlike other some other fan favorites Indian places, these folks deliver not only rich authentic flavors, but they seem to be one of the only restaurants that haven't skimped on the portion size. I'm not going to name any names, but there is one place in particular that everyone seems to love despite that fact that the quality and quantity of the food has vastly diminished in recent years. Not this place though! Even though it had been years since I came in last, it was just as good as it's ever been. The chicken korma is a favorite, and their onion Naan is a must try. I've been here twice with about 5 years in between the two visits. I'm not in this area much and I already have my go-to Indian places, but this spot is still worth a stop. Pros: -- Ridiculously amazing customer service. I called for take-out and the guy on the phone was one of the nicest, most helpful people I've ever talked to when placing an order. -- Food is good. Flavorful. Take out orders come with lots of rice and a fair amount of curry. Naan is great. Every curry I've tried has been tasty. Cons: -- Not a lot of meat/protein in our curries. It was mostly just sauce. -- The curry flavor wasn't as complex as the other restaurants we tend to go to. Good, but not as great as my favorite place. read more

Decided to branch out and try this new (to me) Indian spot the other night. Not sure if it was an off night but I wasn't really impressed. The veggie samosa appetizer arrived with no chutney sauces. Not sure if this is standard to the restaurant but I'm used to getting it and the samosas were bland and could have used the punch of flavor. I ordered the chicken tikka masala since it's always the safe bet and it was very bland and the bellpepper was crunchy and needed a bit more time to cook. I actually added salt out of desperation, and that's just sad! My gf ordered the chicken tandoori and said she enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this spot if you're looking for full flavored, complex Indian cuisine. read more

Great tasty Indian food, but that's not all. The staff here is amazing. We went in and made a takeout order and not only did we have our food incredibly fast, but when the noticed they had left something out of our order they chased us down in the parking lot to make sure we got it. I adore Indian food and I make a point to try new Indian places all over the US when I travel...Royal is and has been my favorite for a very long time, and not just my favorite, but every friend I recommend royal to becomes obsessed. I have had dreams about their chicken vindaloo...not a joke. I have ordered everything off of their menu many times over the years and you can't go wrong with any dish. (Hint 1) order a side of raita and try it with everything. (Hint 2) even if you think you can't handle much spice, medium is safe. You can always get extra hot sauce on the side as well if you or someone you are sharing with wants more heat. read more

Loved everything about this place. Though it's not much different in terms of price, quality, or menu offerings from the other Utah-local Indian places to which I'm accustomed, that's still 5-star-level. (Biggest difference - they give you a water carafe instead of coming around every 2 minutes to refill your goblet manually. If you've been to India Palace or Bombay House, you know what I'm talkin' about. Butter naan (of which I regret not getting 6), lamb rogan josh, kheer (rice pudding), and peshwari naan (the dessert version of the flatbread) were all so delicious. If none of those are your style, their menu is quite large and the number of mouthwatering options is borderline stressful. Most entrees are about $12-$16 each and come with bottomless rice. If you're pansy about heat, stick with the mild option. Service was prompt and very friendly, and though quite busy, there was no wait. Finally, don't let the austere strip mall exterior fool ya - the goods inside are worth stopping for and the atmosphere is lovely. read more

We haven't eaten at RI in a very long time and decided to try it again. The food was good. The ambiance and staff engagement were not. We ate on paper plates, with plastic utensils, and plastic cups. We were told this is because of COVID-19. This is the first time that we've eaten in at a full service restaurant and had picnic ware! When we asked the waitress if they had menu items for children, her reply was ,"I guess they can eat rice. I really don't understand why people bring their children here to eat." Overall the staff were going through the motions of hospitality without any sincerity. It looks like they were doing a good takeout business, though. For $100 for 3 adults, we'll take our business elsewhere. read more

Hiccups. This place gives me hiccups. Strange, really. I had to pause a moment to figure out why. That's when it dawned on me. Whenever I eat here, I end up shoveling this goodness into my pie hole as quickly as possible. That's the source of my hiccups. I'm convinced that if there is a Celestial Kingdom, menu items from this establishment will be all that's eaten in heaven. The Old Testament says something about "mana" but I believe the Hebrew translation is "Chicken Kurma with a side of garlic naan." It's difficult to pause while gorging here. It's their fault, really.
