Always hesitant about trying a new restaurant serving Indian food because we have a go-to favorite in Logan, Tandoori Oven. In Salt Lake City for the day and asked to go along with others to Royal India. Crossed our fingers and gave it a try. We were really pleased. The dining room was very clean and appealing. The service was attentive without the annoying fawning or perfunctory "How's everything tasting?" that is common in Utah. The food was nicely prepared and presented. I ordered a favorite, lamb saag, as a comparison. It was very good with a nice portion of meat. Our party of 6 had no complaints or disappointments. It is the only Salt Lake/Sandy area Indian cuisine I would consider revisiting. read more

Yes, this is really a 5 star Indian restaurant. Service was excellent, food was prompt, atmosphere nice, but most importantly the Masala Dosa is absolutely perfect. I traveled South India for 3 months in 1999 and have missed the humble dosa ever since. If you can manage to find one it is usually limp and flavorless -- but really, enough about me. The Masala Dosa was perfect. Crisp, light, very flavorful, and perfectly authentic. Ask anyone in the restaurant business about them and they think they're too hard to have on the menu, and most lame out with a frozen mix. The Dosa was so perfect I had to ask about it. It turns out they have their own stone mill in the back, and grind the grains by hand, let them ferment gently and then use them just as great grandma did. The Idli I had was a steamed rice cake that was so light it nearly floated off the plate, and was accompanied by a wonderful Sambar. Sambar for the uninitiated is a light dipping "soup" for the Idli. It had fresh Curry Pata leaves in it! WHAT??? I thought... How in the world are they managing to get fresh Curry Pata leaves in the Sambar here!!!??? The level of dedication to the authentic preparation and ingredients is the best I have ever eaten outside of India itself, and I highly recommend Royal India. read more

Was there with New Year party with big group of friends. The food was ok. For my taste it is lacking some richness of aroma that best Indian cuisine has. Few dishes that we ordered both mild and spicy options and the difference was that "spicy" version was just somehow hot. Hot is not equal spicy, isn't it? I guess this may be an adaptation for local customers, for my taste food is for 3 stars, may be even 3.5 stars. The service however was terrible. The lady who took the order was not attentive, never smiled and eventually outride rude, made comments on our accents and language we had spoken. Royal India is pretty freaking good. Of course upon entering I need to ask if they're associated with Bombay House. The owners are brothers, but the businesses aren't associated. They have everything you'd expect. Rogan Josh, beef, lamb and chicken vindaloo, korma, and it's all very good. The service is kind and quick. The servers are personable. They serve big Indian beers. Everything is served family style. Order a bunch of naan and just freaking eat with your hands. Bollywood music and sitar laden returns play through the speakers. The kind of tacky yet expected décor that makes you certain you're about to eat Indian food. The smell of flavorful food and spices engulfs your nostrils the second you walk in through the door. As far as Indian food goes, it's slightly heavier, but all very delicious. read more

I've been going to this location of Royal India as the well as the one in Bountiful for a couple of years now, and I have to award it "Emily's Favorite Indian Food in Utah Award." Quite an honor, to be sure. I've been getting the Vegetable Masala with a few ventures (or borrowed tastes, as the case may be) into their other dishes, and my husband and I agree it's our favorite place for masala. The staff is always attentive and nice, and considerably less cheeky than their Bombay counterpart in SLC. It may be a little pricey, but considering all of my less-than-successful forays into making my own Indian dishes, it is well worth the price. read more

right here, it's "all about the sauce" (owner/manager type in previous year said that to me and my friends, food was memorable so we returned!) and it indeed was. the interesting thing here, though, was that their hot chicken tikka masala had much more flavor than their mild, which was a little strange to me. their chicken pakora wasn't all that fantastic, just felt like breaded chicken without the true crispiness. i would absolutely return here for their hot chicken tikka masala, though. even though i definitely sweat up a storm! their garlic naan was also on point. read more

I just re-found this place after several years of living closer to other Indian places. I forgot how worth it this place is. The portion sizes are a little bigger than some other Indian restaurants, and the food is great quality. It looks like a dingy from outside and it well is one. The dishes served here are just OK and there is nothing Indian to it. I have been to a lot of Indian places and this place is bad. The people here are worse and you might have to yell or break a glass to get anybody attention. The briyani was oily and the tika masala - watery. The furniture looks outdated, the place stinks and service simply does not exist. There are lot of authentic India food available in Sandy. So don't just walk away, run! read more

This place is good. The food seems fresh. The tables are always full. We started with tandoori chicken and lamb boti kabobs which were succulent. The server had told us that there would be 5 pieces in the tandoori platter but we got only four. When we complained he said since one of the pieces were larger we got four. This was the only unacceptable part of the visit. .We got the peshawari naan which is simple delicious. The meat in chicken tikka masala was slightly tough but no complaints about the rogan josh and butter chicken. The mango lassi was nice too but ask them not to put in ice cubes in them since it makes it watery. Very good experience will surely visit again to try other dishes. read more

I'll admit, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to Indian food.... but I'm a pro at identifying good food! I decided one day that it was time to introduce myself to Indian cuisine and so I "yelped" a good nearby restaurant. It was then that I came upon Royal India. I ordered to-go and my total ended up being something like $18 for Chicken Tikka Masala (which I guess came with rice) and Butter Naan. Is that how expensive Indian food usually is? Regardless, the food was absolutely amazing! I cannot believe I haven't been enjoying Indian food up until this point! I feel like someone should definitely have introduced this to me by now and I'm somewhat disappointed with the people in my life. Anyways, I'll try to describe the food the best way I know how: The Chicken dish was creamy and hot and full of flavor! I'm guessing it's curry? The chicken was hiding in a thick sauce of deliciousness which ended up being too rich for my stomach but still delightful. The rice had just enough flavor for me to enjoy it on its own. The Butter Naan reminded me of a pita bread only 1000x better with a puffy inside and somewhat crispier (is this a word?) outside. Gah! I could probably live a happy life off of their Butter Naan. After my visit here, my Indian food adventures will continue! Let the games begin. read more

Best Indian Food we've ever had. We struggled to find good non-chain food in the Sandy area and were so lucky to have followed the yelp reviews to this place. They asked what amount of heat we like for our food and they met our "hot" standards with great force which we welcomed after eating underwhelming "spicy" food in the area. What was I thinking - looking for an Indian place in Sandy, Utah? Well I was on a business trip,and folks- please..just because someone is Indian, it does not mean they always eat Indian food. In fact my husband's pasta is still my favorite food (and now chicken soup too) ..sigh..ok..onto my review. So, colleagues of mine wanted to eat Indian (probably since I was in the group), so off we went to the closest - Royal India. We had the samosas, mixed kebab, Chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, lamb vindaloo, aloo sag,and chai. All fantastic. They did not use the heavy creams and weird flavors I find in a lot of Indian restaurants in the Bay Area. It was very home-style,and when we all said spicy, by all means..it was SPICY!! The ambience was alright,but the food was great.Service was typical. All in all, when I am in Sandy next, I will be eating at Royal India. They don't serve beef, which I liked too..when it's an Indian restaurant serving beef, it's not Indian. read more

Great place for Indian food! I'd have to say that Royal India is my favourite in all of Utah. I've tried other places in SLC and Utah county but none come close. The owners are friendly and welcoming, and the food is authentic. Some of my favourites include the lamb biriyani, appetizer platter, garlic naan, butter chicken and vegetable curry.
