Clean hotel with a large, totally non standard lobby (the restaurant is tucked away along the side of the lobby; I don't know what it was about it but it had a very intimate, old school feel to it... totally not an ordinary, cookie cutter lobby)... had a bigger gift shop / convenience stand than most hotels. I am giving it a 3 because I cannot give it a 3.5. It IS a good value for what is offered (25$ for the Brunch which includes coffee and juices).... My review is based on the Brunch for which we were invited thanks to the Yelp Staycation Weekend and Edmonton Tourism. The brunch is quite extensive; there is an omelet station (I had one made and it was VERY good and well made as there is a variety of ingredients you can add); a seafood table (which includes very large crab legs and sushi); a chocolate fondue fountain, as well as a nice selection of breakfast foods and lunch foods that are all quite tasty. Of the dessert table, the ones I enjoyed the most were the chocolate cake and the caramel pudding with whipped cream :-9 The staff is very nice and very helpful. One of the chefs came out to assist one of our group who needs to eat gluten free. He walked around with her and pointed out those foods that she would enjoy and not have to worry for her allergy. As well, if you had a question or request in general, the staff was ready to assist and make the best of your time for brunch with them. My only concern is seating for the brunch. We were seated in a conference room close to the door which when the door is opened, a VERY brisk wind comes right at you...in fact, this is one issue that detracts from the brunch. That is, the "breezeway" location for the food can be a bit tricky depending on what you choose. Upon arriving to the hotel, the two gentlemen at the desk were extremely friendly and helpful. We had some good laughs and when my friend and I got to our hotel we realized we had only one queen bed. There must have been some kind of mix-up. We call down to the desk and ask if there was another room and they happily switch us. It's wonderful when you are accommodated with no attitude or reservations. So those gentlemen get 5 stars. We stayed in the executive office suite where there was no water in the room, the air didn't work, and the knob on the shower kept falling off. Besides that, the room was great. It had hardwood floors, a large bed, and another small room with a desk. The room gets 3.3/4 Stars. There is a small Lounge in the lobby that we went to later in the evening the first night. The server was an extremely rude person. She didn't smile at all and she seem like she was irritated that we were even there. We were friendly and let it go because everyone has a bad day. The next night we went down there again about a half hour before close and again, she was extremely rude. I had a shopping bag with me and she told me that she needed to take it into the back. I told her that I was not going to give her my shopping bag we were just here to have some drinks and food before we went to bed. She proceeded to tell me that she would not serve me unless I handed over my shopping bags. She wasn't even friendly about it. She made us feel like we were not welcome. We left and did not come back. That woman gets 0 Stars. I hope she gets some lessons in customer service because if it weren't for those friendly guys at the front desk we would never recommend this hotel and it would have gotten one star. read more

I stayed 6 nights for work at the Executive Royal Inn and found it to be a lovely place. As a frequent hotel visitor, they were above and beyond most discount chains. Pros: Hot tubs - two of them next to the gym. Very large and clean. One even had bubbles (thanks to a sneaky guest me thinks) Steam rooms - Also two of them, next to the hot tubs, not saunas but steam showers. Large rooms - My queen size bed looked so small in the room. I had enough room to have a dance party! Beautiful interior - Don't let the outside fool you, the interior is stunning. Food - They had both a bar and a proper dining space, as well as free apples at reception Staff - The staff was lovely and very concerned with me enjoying my stay. Cons: A/C - so this is autobiographical and not the entire hotel per say, but I had to switch rooms because my A/C was not working. I also had two puddles under the carpet. Let me say the hotel was quick to apologize and move me. Food selection - Not many healthy choices as the restaurant, but they did have daily specials. Overall, if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay in the west end, I would highly recommend the Executive Royal Inn. Only a 15 minute walk to the West Edmonton Mall. read more

I stayed here for a 4 night work week. Upon entering the front lobby I was greeted by the lady on a cell phone behind the counter. She interrupted the phone conversation and said to me that she would be with me in a minute. Meanwhile behind her another clerk was counting a money tray and another lady ( I'm assuming a manger of some sort as she was dressed different then the other two) ask if I needed help. The girl on the cell phone turned around and told her that she has it under control.... After she was done on the phone she started checking me in with the usual stuff, name address etc.. Then cell phone rang again she answered it told the person on it that she would call her back. Then she asked me for my credit card to pay for the room stay. She charged me the entire stay plus a security deposit right when I checked in... I guess I musta looked untrustworthy or something as I have never had this happen before. And I do travel lots for my work. Normally they just charge a security deposit at the start and then bill me at the end for the room stay and any charges I make at the bar or restaurant. The room was a decent size couch, bed, TV. Bathroom.. The room was also not cleaned very well as there was streaks on every mirror, lots of strings and lint on the carpet In the bathroom there was stains around the tub and on the floor of the tub and a weird spray paint spatter type of thing on the toilet seat. I phoned the front and asked for a different room as this one was dirty. They told me that they had no other room for me at the time as they had a convention or something coming. I promptly went to the Canadian tire across the street bought some cleaning stuff and fixed the problems myself. I then decided after all that work I would relax in the hottub. Needles to say it wasn't much cleaner. This place had two "residential" style hottubs that had huge amounts of foam on them. Which either means not enough or too much chemicals, I'm going to lean toward too much chemicals as the blue tub was only blue above the water line any part of the tub below the water line was white colored... Water seemed warm but I didn't go in it. The nonslip rubber floor was also heavily worn out and also showed those same white bleaching effect stains as the hottub. The rubber paint on floor was also peeling off the walls in the corners The place also had two steam showers that I couldn't figure out how to operate and they also had a dated and basic work-out room. Location is great as it's only blocks away from west Ed mall. I didn't eat at the restaurant or goto the lounge given their past record for cleanliness. I would defiantly look elsewhere for my next hotel stay in Edmonton read more

I recently stayed at this hotel in west Edmonton for 10 nights and I will not stay there again. Housekeeping missed cleaning my room for 3 days in a row, even though when I got back to the hotel each evening I called to report the problem and to request clean towels. A security guard had to bring me towels because they had nobody in housekeeping. Finally on the 4th day I stopped at the front desk on my way out and insisted that my room be serviced. The ONLY reason I didn't move to a different hotel is that I had paid in advance for 10 nights. The food in the restaurant was just awful. No wonder it was empty every time we went past. Even food that nobody should be able to screw up, like mac and cheese, was disgusting and inedible. We tried two meals there (both times nobody else was in there) and after that we gave up. The food at their Sunday brunch wasn't bad, but their set-up is ridiculous. You have to leave the restaurant, get your food out in the lobby, then carry your food all the way back. When we were there, it was -20C and the food had to be carried through that blast of cold air coming in through the front doors, as well as through the crowd of people waiting in the lobby for rides or cabs. Talk about irritating!!! Even great food couldn't survive that kind of treatment. There is only one elevator for all four floors of the hotel, to be used by guests as well as housekeeping and other staff. It is ancient, rickety, and despite always having an overpowering smell of pine-sol, it was scratched up and its carpet is scuffed and dirty. On several occasions, I saw it littered with candy bar wrappers, empty soda bottles and used tissues. The hallway on my floor was very dirty. Again, I saw litter on the floor on several occasions. It appeared not to have been vacuumed in weeks, as I saw footprints, dust, scraps of paper, bits of dried leaves, etc. One day there was a horrible smell as if something had died, and that smell eventually permeated into my room. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and I like the black-and-white prints on the walls. However, the lack of cleanliness and the lack of edible food are two major drawbacks in my books. I didn't expect the Waldorf Astoria, but there are basic services that should be provided. read more

We had our final brunch here on our #yelpyegstaycation. It had a wide selection of food from building your own omlete to crab legs and lamb. However the food was just about average. The omelet was very oily, the crab was cold, the bacon burnt, the only thing that made up for it was the quantity and variety of food. read more

I just spent the weekend here on a fun staycation weekend with friends and family and I definitely enjoyed my stay. The hotel was clean, polished, and well maintained. The room size was spacious and well put together - and the beds were extremely comfortable and loaded with pillows!! I had the best sleep there. Every time I walked past an employee they always greeted me respectfully and some even asked how my stay was going. Everyone was kind, helpful and hard working in all parts of the hotel. It's got a great location too because it is a few streets from West Edmonton Mall, and right off of the Anthony Henday so you can get anywhere basically in the city! read more

The highlight of this hotel is the staff. The lovely woman running the lounge on Saturday night where three of us had dinner was personable, efficient, funny, and kind. Front desk staff was helpful and courteous and housekeeping greeted us whenever we crossed paths. The hotel is showing its age but was fine for our one-night stay. read more

This was a very good hotel. Looked good fro the outside and looked good on the inside. My room was very clean and kept that way during my stay. I object to the beds being so high because I am short and disabled so I had to roll my way around to get set up. This is the same for EVERY Hotel nowadays so not totally negative. The bath tub had a high side and, again, being short and disabled, it was dangerous in and out. My son apparently did not specify a handicapped room for me. The restaurant was good and reasonably priced. There was much ado about the Sunday brunch, but I found that it was average. I am from Southern California where we go to Brunch all the time and are used to VERY good food. The staff was all so very good to me. I advise that you get a heating pad for those who hurt their back during their Canada trip. OVERALL, THOUGH I GAVE IT A FOUR BECAUSE OF THE CLEANLINESS, INTERNET, AND RELIABILITY OF THE STAFF.
