Dinner buffet menu may be drastically reduced, not as advertised on website, but they still charge the same higher price. Before booking a reservation for the Saturday night roast beef dinner buffet offered by the Royal Coach Dining Room at the Chateau Louis Hotel, we checked their website to view the menu/prices. As the menu from Saturday night, December 23 had not been updated on their website, we first called the restaurant to inquire if they were still having the same buffet on Saturday night, December 30. We were advised, 'yes,' the buffet was also going ahead the following weekend. When we arrived on December 30, we were disappointed to discover that the buffet items had been severely cut back from December 23 ... yet the price was still the same, not cheaper. We had really been looking forward to the roast turkey with cranberry walnut dressing, cioppino, basil cream gnocchi, apple cinnamon cake, pistachio rice pudding ... none of these items was, in fact, served at this buffet, yet we were still expected to pay the higher price as advertised for the fully stocked buffet the weekend before. While the food choices were okay, we were disappointed to attend a buffet with only 5 hot dishes, where 3 of the 5 items were steamed veggies, mashed potatoes, and rice. There are no dinner buns (someone in our group was a meat/potatoes/bread man), and coffee is extra at this buffet. (My personal opinion - for the full price charged for a reduced buffet, coffee should really be included.) If considering making a reservation for the buffet offered at this restaurant, be sure to call beforehand (better speak with someone knowledgeable like the restaurant manager) to inquire if they are serving the food items as advertised on their website, as the price doesn't get reduced when several menu items are struck off the list. read more

Love this place. That was one hell of a buffet and every one of the staff we met were awesome. I don't know what else to tell you, but to describe some of the food. The potato salad was a favorite, as were the homemade hashbrowns and the roast beef. I was impressed to see asparagus as a side dish. I'm pretty sure that chocolate cake I took a photo of is homemade. It's missing that chemical aftertaste and had a pleasantly curvy shape. We'll be back again sometime soon. read more

I attended a Christmas party in December in the conference centre part of the hotel. It was in the back and the parking lot was a skating rink but we parked close by the walkway so didn't have to walk on the ice. There were a few Christmas decorations in the lobby area including a cute snowmen bench which as lovely for photos. The dinner area had tables and 8 chairs around each one and the lovely plastic trees for a centrepiece. The buffet area/dance floor was in an open area away from the tables. The issue with the food was that trays didn't hold enough food and people had to stand and wait while they brought out more food. They also ran out of some desserts. The taste of the food was just average. The bar didn't have a large selection of alcohol. It was fun to attend a party but this venue wouldn't be my first choice for the food to atmosphere. read more

My office has their Christmas dinner here every year. The food is good every time and that's probably why we continue to go here. The room we are in is small on the third floor of the hotel and unfortunately all it is is dinner, no DJ, dancing, etc. It's nicely decorated for the holidays but only one washroom inside. The parking lot in the back has lots of room as there's a conference centre in a separate building for bigger parties and meetings. There's also a liquor store located on the north side of the building. We love the food! The buns are always fresh, the asparagus is crisp with a raspberry like drizzle on it. The smoked salmon is thinly sliced and nicely smoked. The cocktail shrimp are huge! Oh and the salmon, baked to perfection with a seafood sauce loaded with baby shrimp and scallops is divine! The prime rib is tender and flavourful. Steamed vegetables are not soggy and then...dessert. The cheesecake is topped with berries and is to die for!! It is the most popular amongst us all. Everyone waits for staff to bring another out and the line starts again. The creme brûlée is the second best followed by a chocolate cake. Staff are attentive and efficient with clearing plates, refilling food and drinks. Nice ambiance for a quiet dinner. I would like to try the hotel buffet sometime. read more

Nice bright open space. Good service at conferences. Good food in buffet. Free WIFI. I attended a conference here and the service was exceptional. The rooms were large and could easily accomadate 100 people. Service was prompt and unintrusive when food was served. Temperture was good as the workshop was in wintertime and I find some conference rooms to be on the chilly side with temperture flunctuations. Not here. The buffet was delicious and had a good variety of salads and meat options. I was pleasantly surpriised by the amount of fresh vegtables offered in the buffet. The washrooms were clean and plenty on two floors, The area was nicely decorated for the christmas holiday season which was a bonus.Overall the conference rooms were perfect for a workshop or group meetings. I have also attended the restaurant several times in the past. The restaurant is canadian fusion with some french influences. But the menu was vast and had a little bit of everything. The prices are superb and there frequently are amazing specials offered. SO do check these out. The food is always fresh and hot and delicious. No complaints there. They also hold buffets during the weekend which change. From a seafood buffet, prime rib buffet or the ukrainian buffet. I think the brunch buffet here is okay but I've definitely had better. They had caesar salad, deviled eggs, seafood (crab legs, clams, shrimp, smoked salmon), Eggs Benedict, cooked salmon, pasta, a curry dish, and a variety of desserts, pastries and fruits. There was an omelet station to the side. The servers gave us orange juice and coffee to drink. They were pretty attentive and cleared our plates quickly. The food was presented in an appetizing manner. The venue itself is nice looking. There were nice French inspired murals decorating the dining area. The dessert selections were pretty good! Unfortunately, I was a bit turned off by the fruit flies circling the fruits and cakes on the dessert table. It was gross. I didn't see any fruit flies near the main dishes. The brunch costs about $30 per person. This is pretty expensive considering what we ended up eating. I struggled to fill my plate with seconds. I just wasn't overly interested in the brunch options. I left the brunch not feeling overly full. I definitely did not eat enough from this buffet. For brunch, I'd rather go to a cafe and pay more, for a fancy latte and a good quality breakfast item. read more

The Chateau Louis Hotel and Conference Centre is one of the better hotels in Edmonton. Located on Kingsway Avenue this hotel has great accommodations, a fabulous conference centre and a handy dandy liquor store with a great selection of tasty beverages. I've been going to the Chateau Louis Conference Centre for years and am pleased with the amount of space the conference rooms have. The space is always clean and the staff is most helpful. The foyer is very open so there is lots of room to mingle, especially for weddings. The grand ballroom is quite large and a small outdoor area with gazebo is accessible through the grand ballroom. The hotel itself is comparable. The rooms are clean, beds comfortable and a complementary continental breakfast comes with your room. That in it's self is a great deal. As well, there is good parking behind the hotel for guests. Another perk of the hotel is it's situated beside Canadian Tire and Save On Foods and down the street from Kingsway Mall so if you forgot something it's right handy to get. Another perk for location is it's right across from the municipal airport and NAIT and they get a lot of business from travelers and those associated with NAIT. If a hotel is busy, that's a good sign. This place fills up quickly over the summer due to the number of events (Edmonton Indy, festivals, weddings) so don't leave your reservation to the last minute. I always book family into this hotel over others on the same street and will continue to do so. read more

Happy Mothers Day to all. I never ever write reviews. But unfortunately I must today. Where to begin ok firstly. (1) our reservation was for 1pm waiting an hour 1:30 our name was called as there was a line but noticing there were many empty tables Why the wait. (2) No waitress greeted use or asked or explained to use about the the buffet until 15 minutes when we found someone for a coffee and water. (3) Most of food was limited almost gone. None of the hot trays were covered ie labeled. Bowls of sauces looked poor nothing with ice trays to keep stuff cool. (4) On line stated glutes free for my son when I asked the clerk if and where glute free items were responses the salads were glute free and the fruit. I was not impressed. (5) As I mentioned I never write reviews . With the viruses lifting I surely would had hoped more care for covering and keeping food both hot and cold would be a top priority. At $50 a person including full price for my olders son no glute free as advertise. Our table was 9 people all we disappointed but too nice with class to complain Unfortunately my self and my family members will never return again. I've booked my wedding reception in the CL ballroom next year, and my interactions with the staff have been very positive. They have been very accommodating, from allowing us to try on chair covers, to taking down their tapestries to put up our own personalized pieces for the event! Good location with the hotel right on site for out-of-town guests, and very reasonably priced for the service received. The ballroom is an extraordinarily beautiful and spacious room. read more

This review is for the conference centre. The room was lovely, if dated (french provincial) and had terrific light from all of the windows. It is quite refreshing to be at a conference and get to see daylight. The coffee break snacks were not particularly tempting, which is consistent with the quality of food at the Royal Coach dining room in the hotel (which I do NOT recommend). read more

We came here for the Saturday night Gluten free buffet. The Royal Coach Dining Room takes GF seriously and it shows. Plenty of salads, main and side dishes and tons of delicious GF desserts! A wonderful option for those with GF dietary issues. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch to celebrate my birthday. Although it is buffet style, our server (sorry I've forgotten his name), was very attentive, making sure we had drinks and how we were enjoying our meal. The buffet was AMAZING. Exquisite restaurant. We stayed here as it was close to Via rail station and went down for dinner to deserted restaurant...expected the food to be dreadful but..OMG...the chef is a genius. Seafood was fresh and creatively prepared...it turns out there was some event in Edmonton and that is the reason the restaurant was dead...but it is one of the best kept secrets in Edmonton. Anyways, here is what I sent to you: "Hey, we eat at your lounge about half a dozen times a year. Either the food is really good, or it is really bad. My g/f ordered the ribs from the lunch menu. I think they were baby back ribs but not sure as they were so badly cooked you couldn't even tell what they were. They were inedible. The sauce was good, but the ribs were terrible. I can teach you how to cook ribs easily so they just fall off the bone. Or, maybe take them off the menu or go to Superstore and buy those pre-cooked ones in vacuum sealed bags. This is just reviewing the Event Space attached to the Hotel. I've had to go there four times for work events and we were served breakfast and/or lunch. I swear it gets worse every year. The staff never smile and the food is just nasty. I had scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon. Let's start with the bread. It was good and toasted. Pretty hard to screw that up. The eggs, however, were wet. Like someone dropped them into a pail of water for a second and took them out again. They tasted ok but they felt like slime in my mouth. Now the bacon was the kicker. It honestly looked like a Fisher Price toy. You know those small plastic bacon stripes that come with the stove? Yeah, it looked like those except bigger. And remember that part in the movie The Fly (80's version) when Brundle transports his steak in his telepod and it ends up tasting synthetic? I think that's what they did. It tasted like air. I'm not trying to be funny. I'm just trying to explain it as best I can. The place does look nice so that's the only reason it doesn't get a 1/5. We celebrated Valentine's Day there and both agreed we've never had finer service. I am gluten intolerant and had called prior to the day asking what on the menu I could enjoy. On the day, once we were seated, the Chef came out from the kitchen and explained it to me personally. Both the Chef and server remembered the phone call. The Chef then took the time to personally bring the fish and chicken to our table that hadn't been cooked in the sauces he had prepared. Most of the items on the buffet were gluten free. Therefore I had a wide variety of items to choose from. I didn't have dessert but I saw a variety of fruit. Our server was so very attentive and courteous. In fact all the staff were wonderful. This review is for the Sunday Brunch served at the hotel. I find it hard to find a good spot for brunch in the city, especially a buffet style brunch with many different options to choose from. I wasn't sure what to expect, as I've stayed at this hotel before and don't remember the breakfast being anything special. Although the breakfast might be fairly standard, their Sunday brunch is really something else!! There are a TON of options, from various salads, veggies and fruit, seafood, and even gnocchi, alongside the usual breakfast options such as bacon, omelettes and waffles. And the dessert table was unbelievable, filled with different cakes and mousse and pastries. It is a bit pricey, but definitely worth the money. My Dad had met with the staff and booked for a special dinner for 16 people. We were told we would get a private room for our meal, but instead we were put in the general dinning area. We were expecting a private function with sit down service. Instead we were encouraged to have the buffet. It almost seemed a bother if we wanted to order from the menu. Not impressed!
