I visited Royal Foundry for a networking event. I planned the event myself and was super excited to show off the facility. I worked with their events manager, Stephanie, and she gave me a fantastic deal on renting their back room. All of the staff here are lovely and super easy to work with. They are always accommodating and are very great hosts. The facilities are so open, clean and crisp. I would have all of my events here if I could. They have more than enough seating space with room to spare. They have skittles (a lawn game similar to bowling), badminton, foosball, darts and more. And better yet, they're all free to use. Punch Bowl Social? We don't know her. Drinks here are a little expensive for my taste but it was a work sponsored event so I didn't care too much but if I came on my own I would probably limit myself to one drink. This evening, I tried their "The Professor" which is an herb gin with brown sugar and a rosemary sprigs and lemon peel as garnishes. To be honest, it had way too much alcohol in it for me, I couldn't even finish half. But this wasn't enough to take away from the experience. We also had the event catered with pizza and the staff were very accommodating with that as well. I got my butt kicked in badminton but I had fun and a gin in my hand while I did it. I would highly recommend this place for a night out with friends or as a spot to visit with coworkers. Be warned, they only have bar snacks and no actual food but food trucks are sometimes parked outside. Their parking lot is also very small. Who knew going somewhere to sip a few cocktails could result in watching a live Badminton match and playing a couple rounds of Skittles? They distill their own gin, rum, vodka, and single malt whiskey. They even make their own tonic and soda in-house too! I tried their expertly crafted cocktails (I like The Professor) and straight-forward G&Ts, and they've been balanced and served by friendly bartenders. You can play Badminton, Skittles (bowling with wooden candlepins), sip cocktails at the cool bar that is reminiscent of an underground subway station adorned with Bowie posters, and more. Hadn't heard of this place, and then realized that it had just opened a few weeks ago! This place will for sure move up on my list of favorite distilleries. They have maybe 10 or so crafty cocktails on their menu and our group tried a couple different ones. The group consensus was that the "Party Thyme" and "Black Knight" were our two favorites. Drinks were about $10-12 a piece. The area is huge--plenty of tables to stand or sit at. They also have a large room in the back, which currently has nothing in it, but I could see it as a great place to host events (if that's what they choose to do with it). I am not quite sure about this place yet. My cocktail was not mixed properly. It had coconut milk in it but it turned out all clumpy in my drink. I would think an experienced mixology would know not to mix coconut milk with ice and if so, there should be ways to mix them all up. I didn't enjoy it as much. My husband ordered a simple refreshing cocktail, which was not bad but not great either. This distillery is huge! There are so much room to wander around. They could definitely cater to lots of corporate or clubs HH meetups. It's a warehouse atmosphere rather than a romantic place. There are lots of British deco it seems although I am not quite sure what the relevance is to the area or the owner. It even has a huge outdoor bike race ring? I am not sure what that is for or if it would hold through winter but nevertheless, it was interesting to look at. I was here during the soft opening month; Barre3 Edina did an event here. I was impressed by the industrial chic vibe and friendly staff. This is cocktails only, so they have time to develop some nice drink recipes. The old fashioned could use a bit of garnish, but was tasty. The Black Knight shrub was very pretty. So far, the drinks seem to be on the sweet side, but I'm sure the flavors will become more diverse as their menu expands. I wish I lived closer! Came in on a Saturday night after dinner to check this place out with a couple friends. Love the atmosphere this place provides. Ample seating, lots of indoor activities from British hand pin bowling, bags, badminton, ping pong and darts all for free. They weren't too busy which was nice, not sure what crowd this place really draws in cause the business wasn't booming but there were a couple different large groups in, which this place is perfect for. Drinks were decently priced around $10-$15 for cocktails, I think it was $8 for just single pour plus mixed cocktails, soda is free refills, and the music they have going is good! Loud enough to fill dead space but not too loud like you're at a club. For sure would return for the friendly service and great drinks! Royal Foundry is a new craft distillery and tasting room in northeast Minneapolis. My friends and I were excited to try it, and walked away intrigued but highly disappointed. GOOD: The aesthetic at first seemed promising. Unlike so many other beer and cocktail tasting rooms, there is a lot of space here and plenty of seating. The furniture is comfortable and spread out. The bar seats plenty of people. Fun games abound, including three full English bowling lanes, a Foosball table, and more. Quirky decorations include curved subway tile over the bar, poster sized pictures of "bobbies" on the wall, and even a replica British phone booth (without a phone, so bring your own). Even the bartender had a cute exaggerated bow-tie on. You could tell he was really trying to fit the concept. The TV's overhead are unobtrusive and were showing (American) football when we were there; I'll bet it's a great room to watch televised soccer when it's on. My group also enjoyed the very friendly service. We were greeted warmly on arrival, and our server was attentive and helpful. MEH: Let's cut the the chase here. The drinks were really, really awful. And at $8-$12 a piece that is not what you want. We tried several different offerings from the small menu, and each one was incredibly disappointing. The Scrambler was just... dull. My wife described the Party Thyme as "too shrub forward," perhaps in an attempt to cover up the weak alcohol. And we all agreed that the Quite A Pear was the most disturbingly sweet cocktail any of us have had outside of a tiki bar. I also tried a sample of the vodka on its own. Not terrible I guess, but not very inspiring either. Definitely over-distilled, with little character left. Leaves me concerned that the gin, when it finally comes out, may suffer from the same problem. It's worth noting that the whiskey served here is contract distilled elsewhere. This is certainly understandable, since true whiskey needs to be aged. It's very possible that the whiskey Royal Foundry eventually produces will be good and worth the wait. But for now, what they offer second hand doesn't overcome the lackluster cocktails. CONCLUSION: With so many options for distilleries and craft cocktail tasting destinations in the twin cities, it's difficult to be charitable to Royal Foundry. I love the atmosphere and if I needed somewhere to go with a very large group, I'll bet this place would work. Friendly service and party games and plenty of seating go a long way. But at the end of the day this is a cocktail tasting room with lackluster cocktails. I'll try this place again after they've been open for a while to check for improvement. read more

This place is super fun! I love enjoying spirits with interactive games. The wife open space and communal couches gives something for everyone. Peaceful rest area to read a book and sip. Shuffleboard, bowling, darts, and ping pong for the playful! Go early enough, you can chase your 1.5yo from one end to the other with less worry of annoying every patron there because there's so much space. Hard to say what my favorite drink was, but we bought a bottle of their fragrant and lively gin to enjoy even more at home. I love having this distillery in Harrison! Was able to check out this new spot (opened at the end of December 2018) over the weekend and loved our visit. First off - the space is absolutely beautiful and massive. They have plenty of seating within the main cocktail room (most tables fitting 8-10 people), a 2,500 sq. foot event space, an additional small event space a gaming area. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't overly busy - so it was easy to grab a table and hang out for the afternoon. They gaming spaces included foosball, some board games and a nice bowling area (slightly smaller scale than a standard bowling alley). They currently have 8 cocktails available - which include their craft vodka, rum, and whiskey. All of the cocktails were $10-12. During our afternoon visit we tried the scrambler, the black knight, ruby collins and the plain whiskey over ice. All of the cocktails were tasty - very light and refreshing. From the cocktails we tried - none of them were extremely booze forward. The whiskey had a nice flavor, reminiscent of a very light, approachable scotch. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the cocktails and spirits. They do have a parking lot (shared with La Dona Brewery) and there is plenty of street parking available nearby. It only took us four tries to find the perfect spot to watch the Women's World Cup (we definitely shouldn't have saved RF for last). The drinks are fantastic, as is the service. I ordered the Walter Malone and, as an avid gin drinker, it's literally my new favorite cocktail. Plus, the server perfectly described it. Plus, the ambiance is fantastic. This place is so cool! Where else can you find a full badminton court INSIDE to play during the winter? They also have a lot of other games like British bowling/skittles, darts, etc. It is a huge clean space, so even though there was a wait at the bar for their delicious cocktails, it was not crowded in the bar. You can apparently rent it out for events, and this would definitely be a place to do that. They don't have their own food, but you can bring your own in. All of these factors and the quality of their drinks make the higher drink price all worth it. When I came, I was on the vodka train (and I don't like bouncing around) so I enjoyed the lovely sweater wether which was spirit forward, pear vodka and cardamom bitters. That being said, they say the Brits are known for their gin, whiskey, and rum, so I'll have to come back and try one of their classic cocktails with one of those! read more

I was so excited to see this place open up in the Bryn mawr/Harrison neighborhood. Its right next to la Dona so you can try both in one night. I love the aesthetic and overall vibe. It's big so you never need to fight for a table. Service has been great. The menu changes regularly which keeps it interesting. On my most recent visit What the dill was a crowd favorite. We also liked the basildon (sp?) Collins. I've liked all the shrub drinks. The drinks are on the pricier side but worth it! I can't wait to come back and see what they do with the outdoor space. I stumbled upon this gem late this summer and walked in with zero expectations, not even knowing what it was. Inside is expansive with high ceilings, a large room off the main area, and a skittles "alley". The decor is vintage and beautiful and even though it is roomy, it has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They do distill their own gin, among other things I am sure but this is the one thing that caught my eye. Having been to other distilleries, I was ready for any experience both bad and good but I was pleasantly surprised. The cocktails were all mixed with expertise and perfection and the flavor combinations were both appropriate and exciting. Since my first visit, I have been back numerous times, enjoyed a game of Skittles, and purchased my own bottle of Gin. Wow, this place is aces! I've seen it many times, because I have been to the brewery directly next door sometimes, but I hadn't gone in since recently. Once you walk in, you will notice this huge space with a distinctly British feel to it. The back of the wall has this tile on it, making it look like a London Tube (subway) station, then in one corner of the location they have two British Bowling lanes. It's like a cross between bocce and bowling. You have to pick up your own pins. I'm guessing it was a backyard game out in the motherland. They also have a room dedicated to indoor badminton and darts. There is also some couches and high top tables around as well. They recently built a small circular dirt track outside. It looks like it would be for remote controlled cars, but its a track for full contact bicycle races. Apparently the bikes don't have brakes and are single speed. I haven't' come for those races yet, but I plan to. The only thing I would say is lacking volume to their music that they play. And a little some more Brit-pop would be nice. Ok here is a story of kismet. My hubby and I were detoured because of a highway shut down. On one weird section of our drive I look to my left and saw the Royal foundry craft liquors. I looked at my husband instead hey let's stop and see if they do tours or something. We pulled in I saw the sign that said we have a cocktail for you and decided this will be fun. Walking in everything we saw was so cool and almost overwhelming. We were the first people and got to see the very cool interior design. They had the tiles that are in the metro in London behind the bar, the bar itself is made out of barrels, that was so cool. They had Skittles bowling, foosball, and so much more. Then we tried a couple of cocktails. Oh my goodness they were delicious probably the best cocktails I've had in the last 4 years.
