    Henry Gatz
    Dale G.

I live in Longfellow so it pains me to give a bad review here. I gave it one star because I thought the drink, atmosphere, cost combination was very bad. I got the Henry Gatz as recommended by the bar tender. The drink was more ice and water than spirit and the spicy flavor profile they were aiming for just came across as spike jalapeño water. Very uninteresting. The space is also really stale. It is just a big room with tables and concrete floor. I guess they have a table shuffle board game, a projector, and some old good will style couches. They also have some board games. But it is definitely not a cool space. It is not a cozy space. And it was just genuinely uncomfortable. I was on both couches and that was a mistake. The shining light was the kindness of bartender. She was kind and fun and earned the sole star I am giving. Everything else was bad. If you want a good distillery experience, hit up Norseman in Northeast. That is a night and day improvement over Du Nord.

I stopped at du nord craft spirits for the first time because they are in my drink passport. I had a few of their gin drinks, and I enjoyed their house made gin a lot! I would definitely buy their gin and some of their other house made unique liquors! The other flavors in some of their drinks were very strong, though, like the pepper in the RBG drink. The seating situation was very difficult because it was open seating and it seemed like there was a comedy show next door that attracted a lot of guests. However, I am sure that is the case because they are so popular. Ultimately, I wouldn't come back for the seating/service, but I would buy their alcohol that they make!

I've been coming to Du Nord's since they opened. They have great drinks at reasonable prices. The bartenders are friendly. There is plenty of seating and you can bring in food, or order from local restaurants. This place gets busy, so the noise level is high. But, it's busy because it's good. I've found that if you come in before 7 or 8 it's fine. The crowd really picks up later.

Amazing home crafted spirits. We had the gin and the coffee liquor. And they inside has games music and plenty of seating. They have a great staff to help you walk through what liquor you want to try and then what drink to have. The history and passion is very well presented

Great place to have a delicious well-crafted cocktail. I tried the Wealthy Apple and loved it - crisp, refreshing, and topped with cranberries. Also tried the Dude, which was made with their coffee liqueur. If you like white russians, you will love the Dude. Great place to play games with friends - they have many to pick from. The bartender was super friendly as well.

Great menu, every drink I tried was fantastic!

I love every bit of this place. The location is close and parking is easy. The ambience is casual but intriguing, The patio is great, and a food truck arrived late afternoon before we left. The staff are SO friendly, helpful, and seem to really love their workplace. The bartenders go above and beyond - I noticed they all dip a coffee straw into each drink after they craft it and taste just a drop to ensure its the best it can be, just like a professional chef would do at a restaurant. And the drinks are all phenomenal. I wouldn't say this place is cheap exactly, but it's typical for the types of cocktails ($6-9 each), and due to the extra high quality of the ingredients, I find the prices totally reasonable. If you're on a strict budget, they have a couple daily specials that are generally less expensive than the menu cocktails. A few of us went here for a Groupon tour/drink/t-shirt deal. The tour was fun - relaxed but still really interesting. The person who led it (I've forgotten his name since we went a few weeks ago) was great - articulate, knowledgeable, and passionate. He explained how to make vodka, gin, and rye (rye takes longer, so while it's not yet available, it's coming soon), the differences between them, what they've done to make Du Nord unique (and better, I might add) and get a straight taste of each. It's the most flavorful gin I've ever had! I tasted of each of the drinks my group ordered, which ended up being half the menu - the Minneapolis Mule (blessedly refreshing - probably my summer go-to), Bees Knees, Smoked Vodka Lemonade (a special that afternoon), Gin & Joyce (another favorite - I'm a sucker for hibiscus), Fitz & Tonic, We the People (perfect creamy iced coffee pick me up), and something off menu my tour guide recommended - I can't remember the name but it included vodka, house-made amaretto and a pierced black cherry. You truly can't wrong ordering anything here. Plus it isn't just the booze produced in-house - they make almost all of their cocktail ingredients fresh too. And you can taste the quality in every sip.

    Bloody Mary's on Saturdays

It took me awhile to get to Du Nord, but now that I've been, I've gone back a few times because I think it is great! The cocktails are reasonably priced, creative, and delicious! On Saturday's, they have a "make your own Bloody Mary" special that I'm a fan of. I've done the tasting tour twice through Groupon, and Ed, the tour guide, is entertaining, knowledgable, and passionate about local distilleries. They don't serve food, but there are often food trucks. As others have said, you can also bring in your own food. If you want to take some spirits to go, they only have 750mL bottles, and MN law states you can only buy 1/person/day.

This place is so much fun and i think it is going to be one of my favorite places in Mpls. The vibe is super chill and laid-back, great music, interesting and well-made drinks and the bartender on duty (forgot her name) was helpful and friendly. There is ample seating inside the distillery/cocktail room and patio. They also have a variety of board games and card games that you can bring to your table to play with. Additionally, they allow you to also bring in your own food/snacks from home/local restaurants; however, they also partner with a few other restaurants in the same area where you can call and make a delivery (menu's are by the window near the board game wall). I recommend anyone to come and try this place out. Definitely a fun place to socialize with friends.

I went here on a double date in the middle of winter and it was very warm and inviting. The projector screen was playing a recording of a wood burning fireplace and we raided their game shelves. The worker was very friendly and helpful. The drinks were a little hit and miss for everyone but I ended up finding one I really enjoyed, Strawberry Lemonade Vodka. Overall I would recommend to anyone who likes craft cocktails!

The voyageur was delicious on a cold day!

UPDATE: HH deals are now $2 off all cocktails. Awesome! Summer cocktail list is great, with even more options than this past winter. I would recommend the Mule & the coffee drink. I really enjoyed my happy hour here. The deals you can get during their 4-6PM happy hour are actually quite good, though the specials are only on certain basic cocktails. I was happy to pay $4 for a moscow mule, though! The ginger beer could have used a little more fizz, but I was happy with the flavor. The second cocktail I tried was the voyageur-- vodka, almond liqueur, hot cocoa, and whipped cream with chocolate shavings to finish it off. It was delightful on a cold winter's day, though I think they would benefit from investing in glassware that does not lose its heat so quickly since I'm already trying pretty hard not to chug my cocktail. I would love to come back for a tour, and hear that they have a great groupon deal that includes a tour, tshirt, and cocktail!

Since visiting Du Nord for the first time last week I cannot stop telling people about them! Their drink menu is not at all what I would usually order (more of a whiskey/bourbon person), but every drink my friends and I tried was phenomenal! We tried the BSG (it's like a fresh, summer garden... fresh basil and strawberries make the drink naturally sweet without any hint of syrup or sugar), the Gin Old Fashioned (strong like I like them and a nice twist), the surprise winner the Matcha Man (frothy, smooth, great flavor combinations, delicious!!), the Fitz & Tonic (great presentation, great flavor, refreshing) and the Wealthy Apple (sharp, crisp, not overly sweet like you'd expect, tastes fresh and refreshing - I wouldn't have thought to order it but the sip of my friend's was delightful). I easily biked there on the Hiawatha Bike Trail. We enjoyed the indoor atmosphere and service as well as the fresh air on the outdoor patio. Highly recommend!

I am so psyched that this place has a cocktail room now! It's mere blocks from my home so last night after standard post-work errands (co-op, feed cats, etc.) we decided to catch the last bit of happy hour and try some spirits. From 4-6, all drinks are $2 off - which means beverages will cost you anywhere from $4-$7 (totally reasonable for quality, local spirits!). They have a long list of cocktails...many ways to enjoy their gin and vodka with three highlighted options: The Salty Dog (vodka, grapefruit juice, bitters, and a lightly-salted rim), a Moscow Mule (vodka, lime sour, ginger beer, lime garnish), and...I'm at a loss as to the third classic but that's only because I shy away from gin drinks and gravitate toward the vodka. I tried the Salty Dog because I am a sucker for greyhounds, palomas, and anything with grapefruit...and it was certainly good, but I gulped it down way too quickly. I prefer grapefruit juice with stronger notes of sour and I'm not sure if it was the bitters or the type of grapefruit juice they were using but it was a much mellower drink than I was expecting and before I knew it, I was back at the bar ordering round two! It wasn't a *bad* drink by any means (quite the opposite, in fact) but it was very. very. drinkable. The second time around, I went with a safer sipping-cocktail: Vodka Martini (with an olive...they have blue cheese stuffed or traditional). It was a thing of beauty and I protected it with my life as I walked across the room back to the comfy couches we'd claimed upon arrival. The service here is great - friendly staff behind the bar full of answers for any distillery-related inquiries. Like a lot of breweries around town, there are glass windows that allow you to look in on the inner-workings of the distillery, yet the tasting room doesn't feel overly-industrial. I like the piping and the loft-look but there's still warmth to the overall space. The variety of tables (high and low) as well as the couch/loungey corner = welcoming...and so are the drinks! They aren't allowed to make/sell food here, but they will feature food trucks on weekends - and you are encouraged to order or bring in food from any of the local restaurants - so while it would be cool to see what kind of food *they* would pair with their drinks, for now you get to be creative. One last note: if you read this review before January 24th, consider joining the "Du Nord Cocktail Club"...per their website: "To celebrate the opening of the cocktail room, we are offering a limited time opportunity to join the Du Nord Cocktail Club. Members of the Cocktail Club will be issued a membership card that multiplies their initial purchase price by two, three, or five times! Cards cost $250, $500, and $1000 and are worth $500, $1500, and $5000 respectively in cocktail room credits. Members will also get a Du Nord t-shirt and access to members only events."

Some updates to the menu since I was last here in March!

I love this spot! I've been there numerous times over the past few years, and it's always a nice time. There's a small parking lot attached, but ample street parking in the surrounding area. The interior has nice decor and good seating options, plus some board games and shuffleboard! They also have a cute little patio, which is great for some late summer afternoon drinks. Happy Hour is 5-6pm Monday through Friday, which gets you $2 off your drink. The last time I was there, it looked like they had updated their cocktail menu with some fun summer offerings. Some of the cocktails are a little edgier, and I haven't loved every single one I've tried, but I know what on the menu is a good bet and the bartenders are always happy to do some tweaking or get creative with a custom concoction. Du Nord often has food trucks on site, but they're also fine with you bringing or ordering in food of your own. I've hosted a few work events here (baby shower, holiday party, and happy hour), and they're always incredibly accommodating.
