My house mate used to swear down on these guys, they were his number one company, and he'd always rely on them. This lead to my occasionally calling them up if my usual firm were unable to get to me in a timely fashion, and such like. I've had a few trips with them, a few that were fine, and a few that were a little later than expected. This happens, I get it.
But my last attempt to use them was almost laughably frustrating, except it wasn't funny and I wasn't laughing. I was sat at home for over 45 minutes waiting for a taxi that was meant to come in '10-15 minutes'. I really don't mind being told the truth - if it's actually an hour, I'll try other people, and if that's the case across the board I'll stick with it and consider that evening an unfortunate one.
So, having been told by another firm 20 minutes, I decided to go with Royal - I said clearly on the phone that if it was truly 10-15 minutes I'd go with them, as I'd tried elsewhere that was too long. He said it was indeed 10-15 minutes. 20 minutes later I called back to say I'd not had ring back. He assured me it'd be another 5-10 minutes and I explained had he told me that was the case originally I'd have gone with the other firm, he made excuses about the roads (there was a game on in Headingley) and apologised.
10 minutes later and no cab. I called back again, and asked where it was. This time he said he'd look it up, and said it was no more than 3 minutes away. I've no idea which route the driver was taking originally, but it was getting ridiculous. I asked for a discount as the driver was incredibly late by now and apparently that requires calling the manager the next day. I explained that I was seriously late by now, and was it definitely 3 minutes away. I underlined I'd have never used them in the first place had they made it known in the beginning. Yes, yes, sorry, it'll be 3 minutes.
Another 10 minutes went by and no cab, so I called another firm. They quoted 10 minutes, and it turned up in 7. That says it all, doesn't it? I shan't be using Royal again. I've no qualms with firms telling me there's no way they can get to me sooner, but this was massively frustrating. read more
