I have never written a review for yelp or for a restaurant. I use to bring my kids here years ago and it was mediocre at best, but the kids liked it. This place has taken a turn for the worse. I'm actually a little scared we're all going to be sick tonight. If the food wasn't bad enough. The service was horrible!!! I have absolutely no expectations in the service department at a buffet, but I've never been treated like that. This woman was seemingly complaining about us in another language to another server while gesturing toward our table. Our check was sitting on the table, but we were still eating dessert, so I didn't bother to reach for it yet. We were the last people in the section, but it was only8:15 and they don't close until 10. She marches over very abruptly and takes the fortune cookies off the check and starts distributing them while we were in the middle of a conversation. She said "Are all them your babies?" about my adult children and hands me the check. She stood there and waited for me to sign. She wanted us out because they wanted to clean an hour and 45 minutes before closing. Needless to say, we won't be going back. read more

Wanted to have a good meal at a buffet, but was disappointed here. First thing I tried was the hot and sour soup, which I love. I was disappointed to find it was very salty. When I let the waitress know, she said it was mixed with eggdrop soup, which doesn't explain why it was salty. As I moved on, I found things to just be cold, dried out or overdone. The only positive thing was, another customer mentioned having a coupon, so I asked her about it. She told me how to get one, which I did. I doubt I will go there again, unless there are no other options, and I have a coupon. read more

My boyfriend and I have been going here for YEARS! The workers are always friendly and quick to help. The regular portion of the buffet is pretty standard fare, but the star of this place is really the hibachi! The hibachi is always really delicious, and the cook is always willing to make it super spicy for us! The sushi isn't bad either! I would really recommend this place for the hibachi and well-priced sushi. Also, definitely go during the week for the lunch price if you can. ;) read more

As I have listed in my profile, Chinese buffets are my guilty pleasure. I have to try as many as I can and I revisit the best ones frequently. This is one I've been to 4-5 times and will keep going back. I stumbled upon Royal by accident. I was shopping for a lamp at The Home Depot across the street about two weeks before I was moving to the area and was starving. I saw Royal Buffet and went in blindly. The restaurant doesn't look like a Chinese place from the outside. Its clean, stands alone (not in a strip mall) and has a ton of parking. Inside is clean and the buffet is massive and organized by type of food. There's an "American" section, a seafood area, dim sum, sushi, salad/dessert, hibachi grill and fried food section. The dumplings are the BEST I've ever had at a Chinese buffet. They use authentic wrappers that are thin and light, not the thick chunks of dough Americans are used to. The variety is also astounding, chicken, pork, shrimp and vegetable. All are to die for. They're also piping hot due to the elaborate steam system underneath the dim-sum pots. Royal is also one of the few buffets that I'll actually eat the sushi. Its fresh and clean, not sitting on a sheet of ice for 4-6 hours. If you're in the Scranton area and looking for quality and cleanliness, visit Royal and not the place down the road that advertises as "The best Chinese buffet in the area". read more

I've been here several times for lunch, and this is by far the best Chinese buffet in North Eastern PA. The variety of food is so large that you can't try everything in a couple of visits. I also appreciated the fact that they have Miso soup, fresh sushi, and a variety of hard ice cream flavors! read more

My god I didn't know places this horrific existed! I'm almost at a loss for words. I know someone with my standards is bound to be disappointed by a establishment with this business model, but I had no concept of how awful it could be. The food ranges from mediocre to down right repulsive. Even for American Chinese food - much of the meat oozed with grease. The steam table also wasn't kept at appropriate temperature so anything you eat form it could be causing you to vomit your guts out for the next 24 hours - keeping my fingers crossed. I witnessed twice while I was in the restaurant screaming arguments break out between customers and staff. The staff has no concept of good customer service. The staff is caustic, rude, bombastic and belligerent. On top of these qualities no one in the place speaks bloody fluid English. Is it too much to ask for someone who wants to do business in the hospitality industry to learn bloody English or at least hire a manager who speaks it! I don't know how this place survives. It's really depressing that the local gentry tolerate such a place. I should have known better then to walk into this "place". As I first walked in I knew in the back of my mind it was a mistake. This buffet was suggested by a friend, and so for our traditional new years eve Chinese dinner, off we went to Royal. By far, the best Chinese buffet I've been to. Want variety? Yup...including frog legs, whole squid, and seaweed salad, which was good. Three long islands full of hot food, great variety, including good sushi, crab legs and several shrimp offerings. Ribs were very good also! Friendly service also...quick refills. Only gripe was the table sizes...we were really tight at 6, and our table was tightly crammed against another. It was so tight that I was hit by flying crabmeat from the man next to me, opening his crab legs. I'm also having trouble with the idea of everyone eating with fingers and then sharing the service tongs. Yuk. Price was 10.99 adult, 5.99 kids, 3.99 under 5. I have eaten here a few times. Mediocre to good food depending on the day and item. Yesterday we went for lunch at 3:30. Sooo many items said Dinner Only. I didn't take them. I did however eat a few pieces of sushi and then stopped when I realized that they all tastes exactly the same. Meh. Well, when we were done we waited and we never received a check. So, we went up to pay, said we had two lunches and a drink. The waitress then appears and tries to tell the cashier we had dinner. Ummm, NO! Sushi has ALWAYS been included in lunch and that was the only item we had that was marked dinner, and it was unclear if it was all sushi or just the one plate with actual raw fish. I said, NO, TWO LUNCHES. That was all I was paying for. Needless to say that was the last time I will be going there. read more

Food is excellent (at times), the customer service needs American help. Their mannerism with customers are rude. Like one of them said "you pay me now" in a sort of aggressive tone. Some of the sushi is okay some of the sashimi is great. It depends on what time of the day. Dinner is best. Lunch tends to be average. read more

Where to start. The staff , like the hostess the fish in the little pond are more friendlier then her . Now to the food . It's poor quality . The raw food on the hibachi all dried up . Considering how cheap this place is and the abundance of food they offer and their two action stations, this place is legit as far as AYCE Asian buffets go. We always try to go right around their opening time so all their food is hot and fresh. They do change up some of the items on the line to keep it a bit different but they do keep all the staples out as well. Personally I am a big fan of the sesame balls, dim sum, hot and spicy beef and the sushi chef who will make you whatever else roll wise you want if none of the buffet suits your fancy. Plus they have a Mongolian Grill as well! Oh and for desert, it's not one of the soft serve machines but real ice cream that you have to scoop yourself! How awesome is that? read more

I have to say all in all it was probably one of the best Chinese buffets I've been to. Though it wasn't the largest selection it was plenty and all the food was really good. Pros: Every dish, I tried was very good. Even dishes I normally don't like were delicious I was very impressed by the quality of the food especially for a buffet. Cons: They did not have coconut shrimp only coconut chicken ( still good but not as good). They had no peanut chicken which is my favorite buffet fare so I was a little disappointed by that. All in all, if they had had some peanut chicken I may have voted it the Chinese Buffet I've ever been it was very delicious definitely worth a visit or two. :) read more

One of the better all you can eat buffet's around the area. The food is not overly salted and has very good flavor. The sushi selection is decent and fresh. The waitress staff is very friendly and accommodating. Well worth the price for the diverse selection and service. read more

The food is decent, the service is horrible, and the little old lady who seems to maintain the food on the buffet who was dressed in a striped shirt on 8/23 and dressed nothing like the servers is disgusting. I used the bathroom after we finished and while I was in there she was pooping. She came out and did not wash her hands, spit in the sink three times and in the trash once. After I washed my own hands, I walked out, hoping she was just a gross customer but she was already working on arranging desserts and replacing a tray. Never again. read more

I absolutely hate this place. The staff is extremely rude, I don't even know how they are allowed to treat customers the way they do. Every time I've ever been there, they stand at your table and will not move until you hand them a tip. And if you ignore them, they will come out and ask you for their tip. The person cooking at the hibachi, won't even look at you even if you're talking to him. If you ask any of the staff a question about the food, they look at you like you have 10 heads and straight out ignore you. I will make a bet on it that I will be sick in a few days because the place just seems dirty. The ice cream scooper bucket is disgusting, it's sitting in nasty water and I watched a lady wash her hands in it. I've watched someone stick their head under the sneezeguard and sneeze in the food and the staff watched and did NOTHING. When i mentioned it to the manager she told me if i didn't like it i can leave. I will never ever return. I'd rather eat anywhere than this place! read more

Had the hibachi, and it was the worst I've ever had, even for a buffet. $14.00 for dinner and a drink, I could have went to an actual Japanese restaurant and had chicken hibachi for that price. The steak is like rubber, they serve it whole and don't give you a knife. I've been fighting off the urge to vomit since I left. My stomach is in knots. I probably have food poisoning now. This place used to be good when they first opened, sadly they have dropped the ball and have gotten very lazy and complacent. The food is still pretty good, but management is ridiculous. They are to close at 11pm. When I arrived at 9:15 it was OBVIOUS they wanted to close as soon as possible, keeping ONE area open and began cleaning the others. (this is on a Weekend!) And it wasn't slow, they had plenty of customers there and still walking in. Everyone who came in was corralled into the most cramped area of the place, sitting on top off each other. The noise level was another issue...loud unruly teens banging on things and being obnoxious and they were left to disturb all other patrons without management batting an eye. Next, they actually had workers squatted down in front of the buffet areas with buckets and rags wiping down the front of the buffet areas. You literally had to stand there and wait for them to move as people were bumping into them, it was unbelievable. Once finally sat down to eat, again you were sitting so close to other diners, it was very uncomfortable. And here is the best part of all, and the reason why I will never step foot in this establishment again. At this point it was 10pm (still one full hour left until official closing.) The waitresses were forced to get a dolly-cart and begin taking all of the salt/pepper shakers & sweetener containers off of the empty tables...they actually had to ask people to move their legs in from the aisle so they could push this through. I assumed they were taking these items off of empty tables, which was still very premature for the time, but they actually came over to people's tables who were obviously still eating and interrupted them, asking for their salt & Pepper shakers while in the middle of eating! This was unbelievable, almost laughable. almost. Keep in mind they are still "open" for another hour! This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a very long time. There is nothing like feeling RUSHED out the door when you are trying to sit and enjoy your food. This place was a complete joke. Management should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen. Beware this place. Today 2/14 I went for lunch and during my meal I find out they doubled the price as it is Valentine's Day and they are running a "special". Said 'special" included the usually extra priced items and it applied to everyone, no option to go with the standard lunch price. They didn't tell you any of this when you entered, they claimed there was a sign on the door on the way in, which I did not see, and even then they should have announced the policy before seating me. A number of people were complaining and one even called the police. Those who found out as they entered simply turned around and left. I managed to get them to give me the regular price and I was told not to come back. Not that I was planning on doing so anyway, not the way they handle "holiday' pricing. read more

Ok, Ok, it absolutely kills me to admit it, but this is the best Chinese Buffet that I have ever been to. I have to admit that I been to way more than my share of such establishments, and this place stands out head and shoulders above the rest. I know that chinese buffets are not actually chinese food...and I don't care. Their fake Chinese food is yummy and fresh, their chinese made japanese sushi (which really doesn't make sense) is actually not too horrible considering it is off of a buffet. It has an enourmous selection of buffet standards as well as things I have only seen there. They change the selection on a daily basis and have plenty of "non-Chinese" options for those who are against Chinese buffet food. This only irks me more because I don't live near here and my brother does. He will never let me live down this review. read more
