This is my first time trying this business. I just really wanted a sandwich and I'm a big fan of…read moresandwiches specially with those with a lot of meat so I looked on Apple Maps and I saw that this place had great reviews so I decided to try it out. It did not disappoint, Roberto O. took my order and he pretty much suggested what to get as far as a sandwich (based upon my restrictions) and the chips that would complement the sandwich. He recommended the Firebird sandwich and the Funky cushion chips (which is a mixture of salt/vinegar, mesquite BBQ, etc.). After receiving my order, I wanted to view the sandwich and take a bite. I was parked in the 15 minute parking space and one bite turned into eating half the sandwich and bag of chips in my car! I'm very picky about sandwiches and sandwich spots, but this is my new go-to!

I'd been hearing about Ghost Sando Shop for a while, and it had been on my list for longer than I'd…read morelike to admit. It has a cult following, a bright mint-green bag, and a whole brand built on Dutch Crunch bread. I finally went out of my way to make the trip, ready to be converted. I left fed, but not haunted. The Melrose: This is the signature sandwich: ham, turkey, bacon, and white American on a toasted Dutch Crunch roll, piled high with a creamy house slaw of shredded lettuce, red onion, and pepperoncini, plus tomato. It looks great in cross-section, a tall stack wrapped in paper that promises a two-hand job. The problem is what happens after the first bite. The slaw and spread take over, and the meat (the reason you order a deli sandwich) barely shows up. I could hardly taste it. It's a lot of crunch and creaminess, with not much to anchor it. The bread: For a shop built around Dutch Crunch, I expected the roll to be the star. It was fine: toasted, with a little of that crackly crinkle top. But I've had better crunch bread elsewhere, with a crisper shell and a softer, chewier inside. Here it was just a little off, more vessel than showpiece. The premise, to be fair: Ghost is trying to be a fast, fun, grab-and-go sandwich shop, and on that front it delivers. The order came out quickly, the sandwich is filling, and nothing about it was bad. It's a serviceable lunch when you're on the move. The verdict: After all that buildup, I won't be going out of my way for it again. There are other sandwich shops I'd pick first. But if Ghost is the only one around, I wouldn't be upset. It's a solid B-minus sandwich in an A-plus bag.
