Jazz music playing at just the right volume. The ambiance? A solid 100! Classy, smooth, intimate, and relaxing. It almost feels like you've stepped into a scene from a 1950s movie. Whoever designed this space understood the assignment!
We had reservations, arrived on time, and were seated in a fantastic, comfortable spot.
Our server greeted us promptly. Actually, a little TOO promptly! We'd barely been seated for a minute before being asked what we wanted. My wife was still figuring things out, but I immediately went for the espresso martini.
Espresso Martini: Outstanding! Absolutely loved it.
Onion Dip: So freaking good! One of the highlights of our meal.
Brioche French Toast: Delicious! But honestly, overpriced for the portion size.
Side of Bacon ($9): Here's where things started going downhill. The bacon wasn't hot, wasn't crispy, and tasted rubbery and old. It honestly seemed like it had been sitting around for quite some time. For $9, I expect fresh, hot, crispy bacon. This was far from it.
Then came the disappearing act.
Does anyone else notice how sometimes, once your server delivers the food, they practically vanish? We started looking for ours, and he was nowhere to be found.
Now, let's talk about my biggest disappointment: The $37 Burger.
Let me explain something. I'm a burger connoisseur. Burgers are MY THING!
I ordered mine medium. What arrived was somewhere between medium-well and well-done. Completely overcooked.
And the flavor? Almost nonexistent.
It tasted like someone took eight ounces of ground beef, rolled it into a ball, cooked it, and called it a day. Barely any seasoning, barely any character. I even wondered whether they were using an especially lean cut of beef because it lacked that richness you expect from a great burger.
Eventually, after tracking down another employee to find our server, he returned and took both the burger and the bacon back.
To their credit, the replacement burger came out about five minutes later and was cooked correctly this time. A proper medium.
But here's the problem: Even cooked correctly, the flavor still didn't deliver.
The first burger was a 1/10. The replacement brought it up to maybe a 5/10. Better? Absolutely. Worth $37? Not even close.
Now, those little rosemary potatoes served alongside it? PHENOMENAL! Seriously delicious. But let's be clear, I'm not paying $37 for potatoes!
I ate the burger because I was hungry, but if you're someone who genuinely loves a great burger, I'd recommend ordering something else.
Back to the service.
Our server never brought out the replacement bacon. He forgot.
He also never brought me a fresh set of utensils. Forgot those, too.
I wouldn't call the service terrible, but it was average at best, especially for an establishment charging these prices.
A manager or host did come over and apologize for the burger situation, which I appreciated. However, considering the overcooked burger, poor-quality bacon, missing replacement, and inconsistent attention, I do think some gesture of goodwill, such as removing an item from the bill, would have been appropriate.
Here's the strange part. Despite everything I've just written, I would actually come back!
Why? Because the ambiance is THAT good. My wife and I genuinely enjoyed our time together. The atmosphere, music, and overall setting made for a memorable experience, and not everything we ordered was disappointing.
But a beautiful restaurant with premium prices needs to deliver more than beautiful surroundings.
If you're charging $37 for a burger and $9 for a side of bacon, the quality, flavor, preparation, and service should reflect those prices. Unfortunately, they didn't.
I'll give this place another chance and explore other menu options, but this first visit left me feeling that the atmosphere was far more impressive than the food.
3 out of 5 stars. The ambiance earns its praise. The food and service have some catching up to do.
