My husband said the bacon was extremely high quality and prepared perfect. For me, getting it without the bacon, left me wishing there were at least 2 eggs on it because it wasn't very filling and was pretty expensive for what I got. There isn't a single reason not to like this restaurant - at least in my opinion. I was really happy my visiting friend asked to go here. I hadn't been previously, and I realized I have been missing out. The location on Park Avenue is good. It feels like an authentic French restaurant with sidewalk seating, and a busyness to the area. That right there adds to the feel. That being said, we decided to eat inside because I didn't want to sit in the heat of the afternoon. I enjoyed the decor, and we enjoyed a little corner booth table that was perfect for chatting. On a Tuesday afternoon, the place was a little quiet, and there was only one server. But it worked. Here's what we ordered - Starter - escargot. It was fabulous. I'd never tried escargot before, but I really liked it. The texture and taste were very good, and I really enjoyed the buttery sauce it came in. It was perfect for dipping the accompanying toasted baguette slices. Entrees - Steak salad special. Delicious. Steak was maybe a little bit to rare for my medium-rare preference, but it was so flavorful that I got past that part. The salad consisted of some very good bibb lettuce and other vegetables. It was topped with a giant glob (maybe glob isn't the most refined of words - but it was a glob) of gorgonzola cheese. I can't imagine what that cost - but I suppose it was have the cost of the plate right there. My friend had the quiche of the day off their summer lunch menu and was pleasantly pleased with her choice. We opted for dessert because we were all in - smaller portions allow for feeling satisfied and not full so we had to go with something sweet too! Dessert - Creme Brule. The ambiance is lovely and the staff are attentive. Special kudos to Ryan who seated me and my elderly father promptly without a reservation. Ordered an array of items, including the steak frites (ordered medium-rare and was as hard as rubber) and - most notably - the "French Onion Soup". If you're looking for authentic French cuisine, you won't find it here. Lived in Paris and ordered "French Onion Soup" everywhere I went to learn how to make it myself (I didn't go to culinary school but I have worked in kitchens). Those who have had mine have said that it's the best they've ever had. Now that I'm back in the States, I enjoy ordering this classic dish for sport - whether that's a white table cloth dinner or a pub, I will order it. I've been to ROUX many times before, but only for Brunch and absolutely loved my experience. But the soup on this occasion was... unacceptable and, frankly, insulting. The broth had been watered down, and that was evident not only by taste but also by the uncooked onions lazily thrown in last minute to make it last for a full nights service. Very thin layer of cheese on top, and the wrong cheese at that. This is not a difficult dish to make if you know what you're doing. This was my first visit. I wish I had discovered Roux earlier in my life. I needed comfort food and so I ordered the grilled ham and cheese sandwich. It was spectacularly delicious. My husband ordered the duck. He said it was wonderful. The couple with us shared the prime rib....the Saturday night special Beuf. In between mouthfuls they said is was perfect. We got to taste the potatoes. Yum. The flourless chocolate cake, ice cream sandwich and bread pudding desserts were delicuous....yes we tried all three. This is a small intimate candle lit restaurant on Park Ave. The waitress was terrific. She explained the item we didnt know. A beautiful night for dining outdoors so we decided to head over to Park Ave -- not quite sure where we wanted to eat. When we saw empty tables outside on a Friday night at Roux we swooped in to try this newer place. It was early enough that we caught the end of happy hour so we tried the Aviation cocktail which was quite good. I ordered the burger and it was juicy and flavorful though not quite medium rare. The pomme frites were unfortunately limp and not crispy as advertised. Our waitress did get us another order but with the same outcome - she did offer to take them back. A place that claims to be a French cafe really should learn how to make true pomme frites like in France. The salmon was very good though the portion was a bit small for $23. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Except for the frites the food was very good and the experience helped lead us to rate this a four. read more

Greetings Rochester food fans! Roux is another overrated Rochester let down. To start, Wednesday night is Oyster night and when we arrived at 6 pm there wasn't an oyster to be had but that was not the first let down in this dining misadventure. The first was the cold welcome from the lumbersexual host. After this confused clown begrudgingly seated us, we waited over fifteen minutes before a server showed up to take our drink order. We placed our drink order and were notified they were out of oysters on oyster night. I am trying to figure out how you run out of the night's featured item in the first hour of being open. After this letdown I was hoping for an improvement but alas, that was not to be. Our drinks showed up but for $14 and no alcohol in my drink, they could have served a little more or lowered the price because it was alcohol free. Not cool and not providing value for the money. We ordered a salad and before I could order a bowl of soup the server walked away. Again more letdowns. The salad was overpriced, simply dressed and completely lacking in any finishing touch. Next were the main dishes, the Parisian Gnocchi and a Steak Au Poiuve. The gnocchi showed up in a tiny plate with very few. The taste was alright but again the dish was lacking any style or true substance. It looked thrown together with little care or effort. The steak, a 7 ounce cheap cut of sirloin was rather tough. The fries were straight from a bag and again the dish looked thrown together and not finished with any pride. Roux is overpriced, overrated and typical of the post COVID pandemic of mediocrity. The ambiance is nice but that does not provide for a tasty well put together meal. Our only complaints were that we ordered a bottle of wine but didn't get to taste it prior to it being poured, and that the courses came out too close to one another. It was my first experience and unfortunately my last. We decided to do a date night because we saw it was $2 oysters on Wednesday, and thought why not?? That was the ONLY good thing about our dinner. I ordered the Parisian gnocchi, and boy was I disappointed. Not only did we wait 40 minutes (and it wasn't even that busy!), but my food was soggy as hell! It was supposed to be pan fried French gnocchi , and what I got was a soggy looking microwaved version. Update, 7/26/2017. Went back here tonight for our anniversary. It was horrible. Not sure if it was an off night. All our starters were mediocre at best. Entrees were horrible. Gnocchi came out looking like a side of home fries and tasted even worse. Browned on outside, raw on inside. Not a pasta dish, cooked like a bad polish pierogie. Got the steak frites and the steak was raw. Had to send it back and it came back pre-cut and oversalted, also on a side plate, which is super odd for a $28 entree. We couldn't eat either. We love French bistro food and have been excited to go back to Roux and could not have been more disappointed, especially on our anniversary. We've been waiting to try Roux and had a great first dinner here. Nice French bistro interior, iOS service. We split a salad and two entrees- the bouillabaisse and the steak frites. Both were great. Bouillabaisse broth was saffron rich, full of umami, lots of mussels. Steak frites was cooked perfect, good fries. Good wine selection. My fiancé and I went to Roux for our anniversary dinner this year. The space is small in an intimate way, but has a nice ambiance. I don't suggest sitting by the door in winter, but that is really my only complaint (the other being parking, which we did incorrectly and got a ticket). Our waitress was knowledgeable, pleasant, and attentive. We had the butter and radishes, escargot, and fois as an appetizer and they were both fabulous in taste and presentation. My cassoulet was delicious as was her duck confit, and the sides were . We also polished off a bottle of something red, I'm not sure what it was because my partner in crime is the wine expert and they have a formidable list. Roux was recommended to us by a friend of ours who lives in the neighborhood. We were looking for somewhere to grab a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. We stubbled in between their lunch & dinner service, but their "petite menu" was perfect for us! We ordered ciders & local beers. Smoked trout dip, olives, a cheese board & the surprisingly delicious - butter & radish appetizer. Almost every appetizer came with a super cute petite baguette! (Our waiter told us that he'd pay for one of our drinks if we were able to finish all 3...or 4 baguettes that came with or meal! We succeeded! And we love that kind of service!) Even though they weren't serving their full menu, they did however offer their burger. It had a good balance of sweet and savory. Waffle is fluffy and airy. I also had a matcha latte. The size of the latte is a little small for $4. Wish it was a bigger portion size for all their specialty coffee. My friend got an americano which also came in a small cup. My friend ordered the eggs benedict where the hollandise sauce is pretty sour. I am not a huge fan of sour food in general. The dish is also served on crossaints as opposed to the traditional english muffin. Overall, i had a good experience at this french place. Love the beignets!!! A must try if you have a sweet tooth. We got it to share among three girls. It just came out of the fryer? Over? Wherever beignets are made from. I've been to Roux a handful of times now, always just for drinks, but after last night I think I have to come back for dinner. I was entirely distracted by the smells wafting from the table next to mine. Anything that smells that good should be illegal. As far as drinks go, you won't find a bad choice on the menu. Roux knows what they're doing with a cocktail. Prices are pretty standard for cocktails. My pick: Reach Around. Absolutely delicious. In general, presentation is lovely. It's clear a lot of thought has gone into this menu. The space is tight, but I think that feel works for this place. It seems like you're enjoying this special experience with everyone around you. It was Mother's Day late morning when we arrived for breakfast. We called ahead and was told only availability would be in the patio. Unfortunately when we arrived they couldn't configure the available tables to accommodate our party of four. Apologetically they offered seating at the bar inside. Well let me tell you it was a great experience! We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly warm spirit of the young man mastering cocktails and other drinks as well. Three of us ordered the Buttered Egg dish, which had a tantalizing flavor profile of two perfectly fried eggs in a buttery (of course ) peppery sauce, accompanied by fingerling potatoes , toasted brioche bread and a special sausage comprised of lamb, beef, and heavenly spices that escape me now. Rest assured the experience doesn't escape us at all...as everything was AMAZING! The fourth member of our party ordered her favorite a scrambled egg dish with smoked salmon, Creme fraiche and garnished with a mornay sauce and two full caper berries and chives. I think it was served on a toasted baguette. I tasted a forkful and it was divine!! The scrambled eggs were silky and light...the best we have ever experienced. Either meal offerings are sure to please. I also ordered a rhubarb topped scone and shared it with our group. It was tender and delicious! The only thing that missed the mark was our Coffees Americano. The temperature was a bit lukewarm and not piping hot at all. All in all....that one detail won't keep us away! Being the first one to enter by 5pm, there were a few minutes that have passed before any acknowledgment. To be fair, the host was doing something in the back and that's reasonable. I was immediately seated, and my server came right on over. I ordered the a 'Pineapple and Plum' drink. This was a non-alcoholic and being $8.00, I expected a bit more in terms of flavour and the amount itself. For starters, I ordered the Escargots Maison, and Baked Oysters. The escargot was delicious and I love the fact it comes with some bread. Can't let that buttery garlic sauce go to waste. As for the oysters, these were tasty. Some tasted more off than others but I'm sure it's due to using a mixture of oysters from different regions. These came in 5 per order for $15.00, and because I love oysters I had to put in a couple more orders. The menu is impressive, I was torn between the scallops, duck special, or tuna special. I had my server be a tri-breaker for me and it was the Tuna Special. The tuna was seared and tasted great. The accompanying sautéed mushrooms worked really well. The rice was a little underdone for my tastes, but the accompanying house-made kimchi was great. For dessert, again I went with my server's recommendation. The crème brulee is one of the best I've had. I would gladly return to this restaurant. The atmosphere is dimly lit, romantic, and decorated nicely. A turn-off is there's no parking lot, but coming from someone who hates street parking, it wasn't too much of a hassle. I've been told parking at the 7-11 down the street is acceptable. We came here for our anniversary dinner. Made reservations online and mentioned our anniversary. I wasn't expecting anything complimentary, but if a customer notes a special occasion while making a reservation, at least wish them a happy anniversary :( Otherwise, why even have that option there? Anyway, we were not really wow-ed by the whole experience. Cocktails were pretty good (so maybe we will come back from drinks only) but overall the food was just lacking. The charcuterie plate was underwhelming. The server didn't really explain what was on the plate, and just said "ok this is pork, this is cheese and this is mustard" and walked away. Fine, I didn't really expect a detailed explanation of everything on the plate just because it was chef's choice, but at least look a little more enthusiastic. The pickles lying there on the plate were pretty much as depressing as the rest of the plate. We shared a pot of bouillabaisse, which was just ok. We suspected some of the seafood wasn't fresh, because random bits tasted almost sour/stale/funny... The broth was not that impressive and was one dimensional. Creme brulee for dessert was ridiculously sweet and had a little too much burned sugar on the top-- made it pretty bitter sweet and not in a good way. read more

It's officially Summer on Park and the tables are out in front of the restaurants. The warm air has not returned to the city but that does not stop patrons from enjoying their dining experience outside. We sat inside. The restaurant/bar is intimate. Conversations are possible and the French cuisine is excellent. We ordered our dinner in stages. First drinks, one cocktail and a bottle of red wine. Then came the Escargot; perfectly cooked with a partial baguette to soak up the buttery garlic sauce. We split a lightly dressed arugula salad, which made a perfect portion of salad for each of us. Lamb chops, duck confit and patate frites for the main course. The chops and duck were 'melt in your mouth' good. The fries could have been eaten by the handful, crisp and a little salty. Creme brulee for dessert; a perfect ending to a perfect meal. Service was very good. Roux is a little pricey for every night dining but an excellent choice for a special occasion or if you just want to treat yourself to a great dinner out. read more

It's a small well curated menu, fish, chicken, beef, vegetarian.. The usual French suspects for apps, wine list (the prices per bottle are actually pretty good)they do cocktails, they have beer and Absenthe.. Yes the green stuff. We ordered the escargot it was tasty, the snails were tasty in the garlic, butter parsley sauce with the bread toasted perfectly. I got a glass of white Bordeaux it was lovely. We both got the "specials" I got the Parisian Gnocchi w/ seasonal vegetables (tomatoes, green beans, peas) in a bure Blanc sauce with a fresh hit of lemon juice and a shaving of Parmesan.. Yum.. This is not your Nona's gnocchi seriously... It's browned it's different. The husband got the special Chicken Pot Pie w/ frisée salad. The top of the pot pie was a lovely golden brown and when you cracked into the puff pastry and tasted it it was flakey and buttery, the chicken and vegetables inside tasty. To end after we had told the server it was my birthday and he than asked "since it's your birthday would you like desert" damn right I do.. We shared the Flourless Chocolate Cake w/ Chantilly Cream. Ok.. It's my birthday I'm not looking to be comped or anything but you could not give a girl a break. I even made a reservation on Open Table and than called in to confirm. If you put on Open Table in the box to add "things we should know" than don't bother. Whatever this always seems to be my issue..Sorry to complain. Birthdays should be fun not nit picky over that... I would come back w/ friends get a bunch of apps.. Frites, Cheese Plates, Escargot & bottles of wine and chill.. They don't hover and you feel relaxed. Roux has been on my list for quite some time, but now I will cross it off for good. It wasn't a 'bad: dining experience, but it was forgettable, bland and not worth its price. Very slow service and inattentive for being 1 of 3 small parties at the time of visit. The cheese board was skimpy with 3 less than one ounce servings, 1 strawberry and 5 blueberries. The honey with it did not match the offering. Cocktails were $2 off for happy hour but I should have just gone with the steep wine....served in a crushed ice tall glass which greatly detracted from the taste. I'll start by saying that I was excited to visit Roux. I love French food. After a quick search in yelp , I found this restaurant. My wife and I met with friends for a double date. Walking in, you get great energy and great aromas. Dimmed lights, cool decor, and average crowd noise. Restaurant staff are nice and knowlagable. I was looking foward to try escargots for the first time and expand my palate . This wish came true and it became our appetizer. I'm surprised, it's delicious! The garlic, butter and the herbs blended beautifully. I literally forgot I was eating snails. The texture is very similar to muscles. Thank to Roux, my first time tasting escargot was delightful. Quick tip: after eating the escargot, ask for french bread, you can dip it on the leftover sauce . At this point I was ready for my main course. I ordered the Roux burger with fries. This is optional, but I asked to added gruyere cheese and bacon. This is hands down one the best burgers I have ever had in my life. The patty was so juicy and flavorful. The gruyere cheese melted perfectly on the patty. The bacon was cooked acurately. The combination of tomato jam, dill pickles, aioli, and bibb lettuce was fantastic. In addition the inside of the brioche bun was toasted to prevent a soggy bread and add flavor. Then on the side was a mountain of seasoned fries. I chose to dip my fries on a garlicy aioli. My mouth was in heaven. My wife ordered lamb steak with chick peas and thin bread. The lamb was cooked perfectly, it was tender and full of flavor. The chick peas blended well with the steak. The bread was a great addition aswell. I liked the texture and taste when you put all the components together in one bite. Finally for dessert we ordered two things. One was creme brulee, of course. Second was persimmon tart. Both desserts were tasty. The only thing I'd recommend for the tart is moisture. This can be done by adjusting the recipe, or adding another component like ice cream. The creme brulee had great flavors. The sugar crust on top had the perfect hardness to it to provide that crunch. I was surprised that even though there were no dark spots and the entire layer was evenly golden brown, that it still had a burnt taste to it. When it came to the creme , I prefer it to be slightly more dense. More like a flan texture instead of pudding. Over all my friends and I agree that we had a great experience. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. read more

Here's the place in town with great drinks that no one ever talks about. Their cocktail menu is far more creative and extensive than places in town better known for their drinks. If you're having trouble deciding, try out La voisin -- it's phenomenal. I also know of no other place that offers an extensive absinthe menu. The vibe is romantic, and there is just enough pretension for a neighborhood French joint. I totally dig that. I've gone here before at peak hours and have been frustrated by the slow service. On less busy nights, things are great, but I would continue to avoid Friday and Saturday nights. read more

Food was great, but service was absolutely awful. We were there for Sunday brunch, and the waiter did not take our food order for 30 minutes, and it took another 30 minutes for the food to arrive (he ignored us for most of the time, and a table that was seated 30 minutes later got the food before us). After the food arrived, se were rushed out as reservations are only 1.5 hours. It's a pity that the service is so bad - it is a very nice restaurant at a great location with fantastic food. However, there are much better options along the same street where the employees take much better care of their guests. read more
