I visited Route 22 yesterday for the first time in about 10 years, with high hopes. We were greeted with a friendly waitress and sat a not hugely comfortable, buttpractical table for two (hard chairs and small table but it did the job so no great issue there). We were provided with menus and were asked if we wanted drinks pretty quickly so they wandered off while we looked the food options. About ten minutes later, the drinks were delivered and they took our orders. I went for chicken fajitas and my boyfriend went for a bbq calzone, both theoretically simple dishes, with garlic bread as a shared starter. The garlic bread was delivered within minutes and was pretty good as it goes (served on baguette style bread). And again, the main courses were fast, we only waited about another 10 minutes for them.
Unfortunately, after a few mouthfuls of our mains, all I can say is that we were both significantly disappointed. My fajitas could only be described as bland which is not something I expect from a fajita, even what appeared to be salsa, had no notable spice to it so I got through two of the things to show effort and in case it was simply a case of the flavours not being mixed properly, before giving up. My boyfriend's calzone was described by him as if someone put shepherds pie mince into pizza dough, there was not even the remotest hint of a bbq flavour in any of it so he soon gave up on that, we also both tasted eachother's and confirmed what the other thought.
We thought we should try pudding so that it wasn't as if were just writing it off without a good basis. My boyfriend had a hot fudge brownie which was actually pretty tasty, though a little more like sponge than brownie but he was happy with it. I went for a tarte au chocolat and considering it was meant to be a dark chocolate tarte, I thought the taste, was again, lacking in flavour and not at all rich which is something I'd expect from that kind of dish.
Despite the food, the waitresses were very friendly and when I asked for a glass of tap water, one was brought to me with ice which was very kind of them. Howevever we won't be visiting again. read more
