Fantastic place, but the outside does little for it. I would've carried on to Nandos had it not been for my son being to tired to walk any more.
Upon entering, I was surprised at how vibrant and fun the whole place looked. I wish more could be said for the staff... I found a table for ourselves, not hard as it was so quite, and my son dutifully sat and gawped at the TV pumping out Tom & Jerry on a loop (more on this later). The menu offered a good selection; burgers, ribs, 'slaw, chicken, milkshakes and sides. The childrens menu was also quite good, and a kids meal was offered for a reasonable rate which included drink, main and ice cream. I ordered Texan BBQ burger which came with fries, my son ordered childs hot dog, also with fries, and we had onion rings and 'slaw on side to share. The banana milkshake I had was amazing. Really nice!
Our food arrived in minutes, probably not even 8 mins from ordering. The onion rings are huge, and yummy, but oily. The 'salw - not great. Not at all chunky; almost overdone in the processor. The burger... well... raw inside, dripping bloodied juices when I bit in and barely warm in the middle. I sent it back, they apologised, I made a mental note to ask for a deduction off the bill. A replacement arrived soon enough, but I felt a bit annoyed as I was starting my meal well after my son. However, the replacement was nice. Cooked well, tasted ok, they could use real cheese instead of plastic strip cheese, but such is life.
Bug bears though. The TVs all over the walls were a massive distraction for my son. Having spent money on a meal for him and I, I would like to enjoy his company, attention and a bit of conversation. Instead I spent all meal telling him to turn round, eat up, stop watching TV. Despite the raw meat mishap, I still ended up finishing well before him, as he just ogled the box. Hmm.
When I asked for the bill, there had been no deduction for the under cooked food business, and no offer of one either. I was put out by this, as it was an inconvenience, and having only 15 minutes to get to the train station and a 20 minute walk-with-child ahead of me, I was too pushed for time to ask.
Overall, I would say visit, just for the American Diner experience. However, I wouldn't be inclined to go again if I received the service and food that I did when I was there. read more
